00:00Good afternoon folks here we are in Mammoth Lakes California actually June
00:06Lake California in this year Nevada mountains that you can see right here
00:12aboard Suzuki's 2024 v-strom 800 touring edition this is a ten thousand five
00:21hundred dollar middleweight plus sized adventure sport touring bike now this
00:31motorcycle effectively replaces Suzuki's tried-and-true v-strom 650 it uses
00:41Suzuki's new 776 cc parallel twin engine that Suzuki motor uses in its
00:50gsx-8 naked bike in gsx-8 our sport bike which we have tested extensively this
01:00motorcycle is designed for all of us riders who want a very very comfortable
01:07and easy-to-ride light to medium-duty touring bike this motorcycle differs
01:14from the standard v-strom 800 with the addition of this touring box so the v-strom
01:23800 is priced just south of ten thousand dollars this vehicle is priced at ten
01:30thousand five hundred dollars and it includes a lockable top case which is
01:35matched to the ignition key that's really handy you can put your stuff in
01:41there put a change of clothes you can put some drinks you can put whatever you
01:44need to go on a ride and the best part is the case is not only lockable to the
01:51ignition key but you can also remove the top box super easily and just bring it
01:55with you so you don't need to bring a spare bag inside the top case and take
02:00them take the bag out of the top case and leave the top case of course you can
02:03do that if you want you can easily dismount the top case and just bring it
02:08with you when you're on a trip now this $10,500 Suzuki v-strom 800 it rolls on a
02:20steel chassis this motorcycle weighs just north of 500 pounds with a full 5.3
02:28gallons of fuel that's right Suzuki endowed this vehicle with a big gas tank
02:34thank you Suzuki we love motorcycles with big fuel tanks and this v-strom 800
02:41touring edition with this 5.3 gallon fuel tank definitely fits the bill on
02:47that front we have a nice fuel gauge right here on the 5-inch color TFT but
02:52we'll get to that in a minute this motorcycle rolls on an inverted fork and
02:58the linkage equipped gas charge shock with remote preload adjustment so you
03:05can easily dial in the ride height of the rear end of the vehicle based on
03:11rider preference or vehicle load you turn it right and the rear end raises
03:16you turn it left and the rear end lowers I love that feature the damping
03:21is fixed there's no damping adjustment front or rear but honestly that's not a
03:28big deal on this bike because this vehicle has some of the best OE
03:34suspension damping settings of any motorcycle we've ever ridden in the
03:38history of motorcycling which is really awesome we mentioned that in the GSX-8R
03:45reviews that we publish on MotorcyclistOnline.com and on Instagram
03:50and this vehicle has very similar suspension feel in the versatility and
03:57the very very nice damping response for a non-adjustable suspension really like
04:04the suspension on the Suzuki 800cc motorcycles they work really well out of
04:10the box it's worth noting this suspension has nearly six inches of
04:15travel front and back which is pretty dang good in our opinion now we talked
04:23about the engine 776cc parallel twin water-cooled dual overhead camshafts
04:30with an eight valve cylinder head this engine is good for right upwards of 70
04:36horsepower at the business end of that 17 inch rear wheel we have upwards of
04:4150 pound of torque as well this engine has really nice character it's got a
04:47really nice visceral feel oh my god look at that view folks this is what
04:52motorcycle turning is all about seeing cool things this motorcycle power plant
04:57has an uneven firing order which gives this engine of the twin like feel so
05:04it's got a lot of torque a lot of charisma a lot of character nice rumble
05:07there is some inherent vibration in the engine but it's not so much to be
05:13off-putting it really feels nice this is a really nice motorcycle if you liked
05:19Suzuki 645cc v-twin you're gonna like this engine because it's everything that
05:25Suzuki 645cc v-twin was but more power smoother it's just a better overall
05:33engine it still has that that narrow packaging of course it's not a v-twin
05:38but the parallel twin configuration keeps it nice and narrow now this
05:45motorcycle is also loaded with a very advanced electronic suite this 5-inch
05:52color TFT keeps tabs on it we have traction control we have Suzuki's tried
05:57and true SDMS Suzuki drive mode system Suzuki was an early innovator with its
06:04adjustable engine power modes which it unveiled I believe for the 2007 GSX-R
06:101000 so Suzuki was believe it or not they were the first ones to allow for
06:16adjustable engine power modes I'd really like that feature that features morphed
06:21over the years now not only is adjustable engine power modes but that
06:26setting has morphed into adjustable combined engine power modes and throttle
06:32response and that's how a lot of the manufacturers do it these days they
06:37combine those two settings let's turn on our insta 360 x4 camera this is a 360
06:46degree a video camera camera that allows us to get the exquisite shots
06:50this thing should normally turn on with that push of a button but it wasn't oh
06:55no the frame rates night not right let's see if we can change it we did with
07:00gloves that's why I love this camera so much you can change the settings with
07:04gloves this camera is one of the best video cameras we've used in the last
07:092024 calendar if calendar year if you want to know more about this camera surf
07:15on over to insta360.com back to the vehicle Suzuki was an early innovator
07:21and adjustable power modes and it's good to see that this vehicle continues to
07:26have this setting right now we're riding in the highest power setting power mode
07:31a but you can also select power mode B which is slightly softer engine and
07:37throttle response or C which is even more soft we can also adjust our ABS
07:44levels we have ABS level one and two two is more restrictive than one and
07:50then we can adjust our traction control one is the least restrictive sitting
07:55setting we can also turn traction control off if we want on the fly a lot
08:00of manufacturers don't offer the ability to adjust traction control while you're
08:06riding let alone disable it while you're riding but Suzuki motor does and we
08:11really appreciate that good job Suzuki I love the engine but it feels a little
08:18slow in mode C let's put it back to mode a yes full power we also have a really
08:25slick shifting electronic quick shifter that allows for full throttle up shifts
08:31and down shifts without having to use the clutch the system is very smooth and
08:38well calibrated for an adventure sport touring bike we said this engine it
08:45doesn't have a lot of vibration it has a little bit of vibes they can feel
08:49through the seat and the hand control but it's the good five kind of vibration
08:54the vibration that makes you feel like you're riding a motorcycle really like
08:59the ergonomics on this motorcycle this motorcycle is insanely comfortable the
09:04handlebars nice and upright yes it has quite a bit of rearward sweep which a
09:09lot of street bike manufacturers are doing these days but geez this thing is
09:14just so crazy comfortable for upright riding it is insane we also really like
09:21that the foot pegs aren't too high they're not too low they're not too
09:26rearward this is a very accommodating motorcycle for someone that doesn't
09:32maybe have the best flexibility maybe you're a little bit older and stiffer
09:37you're really gonna like this motorcycle because it's crazy comfortable and it's
09:42crazy narrow even for a parallel twin bike this motorcycle is very very svet
09:48it's funny because this bike weighs in at just north of 500 pounds but when
09:52you're riding this thing gosh it totally doesn't feel like it weighs 500 pounds
09:56it feels like it weighs 425 pounds the mass is that centralized and it is that easy to
10:03ride we also really like these oversized plastic hand guards which do a good job
10:10of keeping the wind and the cool air off your mitts yes this bike doesn't have
10:16heated grips we wish it had heated grips and electronic cruise control two
10:21features that should have for $10,500 MSRP but these plastic hand guards are
10:28big and oversized and they work really well now of course you can pair this 5
10:36inch color TFT dash with your iOS or Android powered smartphone via Suzuki's
10:43proprietary app you can check out your mileage your fuel tank capacity and see
10:49when your vehicle has to go into maintenance speaking of maintenance
10:55this particular vehicle goes 6,000 miles between oil changes 6,000 miles between
11:02oil changes and Suzuki wants you to change the oil filter every other oil
11:07change spark plugs need to be replaced every 7,500 miles also interesting enough
11:15is the valve inspection interval is also at 7,500 miles which is kind of
11:21crazy you gotta remember vehicles like Yamaha's MT generation parallel twin
11:27that motorcycle engine goes a whopping 24,000 miles between recommended valve
11:33inspection intervals so for the Suzuki to only go 7,500 miles you need to step it up
11:40we need longer maintenance intervals out of this 800 now of course this V-Strom
11:48800 you can adjust the height of the windshield in half inch
11:54increments however you need to have a tool to do that which is kind of a mess
12:00in our opinion Suzuki why couldn't you have a handy adjustment knob where you
12:05can slide this windscreen up or down in the standard middle position this
12:11windscreen is really nice it's nice and wide yeah it could be a little bit
12:14taller but we could adjust that up and it would be taller in one second I
12:20really like this motorcycle like we said it's crazy comfortable ergonomically
12:24the seat is really nicely supported and the engine doesn't vibrate too much
12:29these rear view mirrors are nice and oversized and again because the engine
12:35doesn't vibrate crazy style this is a very very easy bike to see what's going
12:41on behind you gosh look at this view folks we are so lucky to be riding on
12:47this nice road well everyone for $10,500 there really is no not a lot to not like
12:55about the Suzuki 800 V-Strom Touring Edition this motorcycle is crazy
13:01affordable at $10,500 it has a nice color dash you can pair it with your
13:07iOS or Android powered smartphone this engine offers really good usable
13:12performance it's fun it's fuel-efficient it registers 36 miles per gallon and
13:18with that range that with that 5.3 gallon capacity of the fuel tank you
13:22really have some range we really like that it's nice and compact it's not too
13:28long it's not it's very narrow and it really carries its weight well for a
13:32500 some pound straight bike and really if you're looking for a light to medium
13:39duty touring bike or really a motorcycle that you can have in your garage they
13:44can run errands on town you can go on rides and see stuff you can carve it up
13:50in turns this V-Strom 800 touring bike really checks a lot of boxes it's crazy
13:57comfortable has great engine performance the handling is awesome the the comfort
14:03level is high and the price is right there the only thing we'd really gripe
14:08about is we wish it had heated grips cruise control and yes the valve
14:14inspection interval can be a little bit longer but knowing the history Suzuki
14:19motor has with its vehicles these motorcycles are very very tough they're
14:25made in Japan they come with a one-year warranty but they're so tough that they
14:29could come with a 10-year warranty and they wouldn't fail that's how well
14:34they're they're built well folks that wraps up our official review of
14:38Suzuki's 2024 2024 the V-Strom 800 touring edition as always make sure to
