Of course, aside from its competitive price, the standout feature of Yamaha’s 700 is its versatility. It performs well both on and off-road, making it an excellent choice for adventure riders. The design strikes a near perfect 50/50 balance between street and dirt, allowing riders to explore a variety of terrains with ease.

00:00We are here at the 2024 Yamaha Adventure Ride aboard Yamaha's 2024 Tenere 700 middleweight
00:09ADV bike.
00:10Here is the new style mechanical key.
00:13Yes, I am happy.
00:15Look at this nice 5-inch color TFT display, that is a new feature for 2024.
00:24So we are here in Colorado participating in the Yamaha Adventure Ride.
00:30This is a ride open to Yamaha customers via the BlueCrew website, so you log on the BlueCrew
00:38website and you sign in and you write the Yamaha Motor USA a letter saying why you love
00:46riding Yamaha.
00:47You also enter the VIN number of your Yamaha motorcycle, it doesn't have to be a new one,
00:52it can be an old one, and then they pick a handful of customers to participate in this
01:00beautiful ride in the mountains of Colorado.
01:05Right now we are riding with members of the Powersports Media and Powersports Influencers,
01:16and this weekend the customers will arrive, the lucky customers that won the opportunity
01:22to participate in this event, it's all transportation and expenses paid.
01:30So when you come here, you are a guest of Yamaha Motor, how cool is that?
01:37So today we are riding its 2024 Tenere 700 middleweight ADV which we have reported on
01:43extensively on the website, we've also made a ton of videos on this 2024 model year product.
01:52Some of the changes, just to sum things up, is this 5 inch color display, this new switch
01:58gear with Yamaha's tried and true multi-wheel control function, which first appeared on
02:03the 2015 YZFR1.
02:07We also have Bluetooth connectivity with this dashboard for iOS and Android powered devices.
02:18We also have some other minor tweaks like the new LED turn signals which are super awesome
02:25in my opinion.
02:28So right now it is early June 2024, as you can see there is still considerable snow in
02:39the mountains here, in fact some of the trails we were going to ride on we actually can't
02:45ride on because there is too much snow.
02:49So we are going to stick to the lower elevation right now, we are right around 8,000 feet
02:55elevation right here, going up there it is 10,000, 12,000, 13,000 feet up there.
03:02Now this 2024 Yamaha Tenere H700 is so cool just because number one the price, $10,800
03:10for this vehicle, of course we have a couple of accessories like the Rally Raid seat which
03:14is really nice for us tall folks, it basically boosts the seat height of this vehicle and
03:20makes it more accommodating when you are riding in the standing position.
03:24So if you are someone who is 6 foot tall or taller you are really going to want that
03:29taller accessory seat.
03:30We also have crash bars, these metal crash bars in case the bike gets tipped over it
03:36helps protect the body panels and some of the other vital organs of the motorcycle.
03:43And then we have this $200 GYT electric quick shifter which allows for full throttle up
03:50shifts, I love quick shifters.
03:53So I'm really happy that this bike can be fitted with that as an OE accessory for only
03:58$200.
04:00This bike truly is equal parts on road and off road, it's a true 50-50 middleweight adventure
04:07touring bike.
04:08And what we mean by that is you can use this motorcycle on the road and it's just as capable
04:16on the road as it is off road.
04:18While other manufacturers ADV, middleweight ADV bikes are biased, they are more road orientated
04:26or more off road, designed for more off road use, this thing is literally a 50-50 bike.
04:31It's a 50-50 Swiss Army Knife style bike that can basically tackle everything.
04:38This bike is powered by Yamaha's tried and true 689CC CP2 parallel twin engine, it's
04:44water cooled, dual overhead camshafts with an 8 valve cylinder head.
04:48This engine I believe debuted, this powertrain originally debuted with the first FZ07 turned
04:57MT07, I think that was right around the 2015 model year.
05:03So this engine is super awesome because it is extremely compact, if you look at the engine,
05:08it's very short from front to back and it's very narrow.
05:12This is a very well packaged engine, it also has an uneven firing interval so it has a
05:18V-twin like power character.
05:21So a lot of torque down low, a nice little rumble to the engine.
05:27It makes right around 43 pound feet torque to the business end of the 18 inch rear wheel
05:34and 64 horsepower at sea level, obviously we're at altitude so probably expect about
05:4015%, 20% less power out of this engine.
05:44At sea level that's the kind of power it makes.
05:49It's got a 6 speed transmission and a chain final drive which puts power back to that
05:5518 inch rear wheel.
05:58That's our friend and Yamaha ambassador Ryan Villapoto, he's a multi-time Supercross and
06:05World Cross Racing champion, he's shown us his moves on the Scenario 700.
06:12It's a little bit dusty out here folks so you're going to have to bear with us, we have
06:19to wipe down the camera a little bit just to mitigate some of that dust.
06:23Let's slow down a little bit and get out of the dust, how about that.
06:29So, 6 speed transmission, cable, actuated clutch, without slipper function.
06:36This is a non-slipper function clutch, which is totally fine because we're not backing
06:41it into corners on this thing.
06:46This motorcycle rolls on a 21 inch front and 18 inch rear wheel setup, that is real dirt
06:54bike size wheels and that really gives you access to number one good off-road rubber
07:00and that 21 inch front wheel just allows this bike to roll over obstacles really well.
07:07So if you have rocks and other big things that big wheel diameter allows the bike just
07:13to roll over it really nice and of course that 18 inch rear wheel has a little bit more
07:18sidewall than a motocross bike's 19 inch rear wheel.
07:26Up front we have an inverted KYB fork with 8.3 inches of suspension travel and a Linkwich
07:35equipped shock with nearly 8 inches of suspension travel, of course there's full damping adjustment
07:43front and back.
07:44The fork also has these really handy bleed screws just like a real dirt bike, what that
07:50does is it removes the air pressure from the fork chamber and allows the fork to move more
07:56freely, so there's not all this pressure binding up inside.
08:01It's a really cool feature, I wish street bike forks came with that feature just because
08:07it would allow you to balance out the pressure from inside the fork to outside in the real
08:15world.
08:16The shock is also nice because it has a hydraulic remote adjustment knob which you can use to
08:23raise or lower the rear end of the bike based on rider preference or how much load you have.
08:31I weigh 215 lbs right now, I'm pretty heavy, whoa, sorry about that folks, 215 lbs so generally
08:42I like to have a little bit more preload in the bike just so I can keep the rear end of
08:50the bike a little bit taller so it's not all sagged out, this elevation has got me winded
08:58a little bit, so we'll just wait for the group and we'll catch up with you in a minute.
09:03I love this Tenere 700 just because you get to see so much cool stuff, look at this mud
09:07pit, this mud pit from the snowfall, this is going to be precarious to go across, let's
09:16see what happens, let's put her in 2 wheel drive low, 2 wheel drive low, yeehaw, alright
09:22everyone we don't want to get stuck in the mucky muck so we're going to do that line
09:25right there, the anti-mucky muck stuck line, I do not want to be stuck in that stuff, so
09:32we're going to go this way, whoa, this is soft, but the Tenere 700 in 2 wheel drive
09:39low powers right through it, I like this bike because first gear is nice and low, it's nice
09:48and low and it's good for chugging up things and then the dynamic of this CP2 powertrain,
09:54this engine lends itself really well for just almost slow riding, just because this engine
10:01pumps out a good amount of torque at low RPM, where other manufacturers ADV touring bikes
10:10they have more power at high RPM, this thing is a lugger, in the true sense of a 450 off
10:18road bike, this thing just loves to lug up obstacles at low RPM, and that makes for a
10:25capable and again easy to ride motorcycle, yeah, especially at elevation, the mid range
10:35and top end of this bike is a little bit flat, but this bike has so much torque, and so such
10:43easy torque, and the way the torque is made, it really allows that 18 inch rear wheel to
10:49hook up in the dirt, that just makes it really capable off road, and I like that, I also
10:56like the engine character, it's got a little bit of V-twin like rumble to it, so a little
11:04bit of rumble, there is a little bit, whoa, of vibration, but it's not, it's the right
11:11kind of vibration, you gotta remember, Yamaha, their nickname is the tuning fork brand for
11:17a reason, and when they engineer their engines, their engines are literally engineered to
11:23have just the right amount of vibration, where other manufacturers, when they engineer their
11:28powertrain, they don't put in that kind of effort, Yamaha literally tunes these engines
11:34to have just the right amount of vibration, wow, that was cool, little hull climb action
11:40on the Tenere 700, wow, look how beautiful it is, folks, alright, now we're back on the
11:46road on the Tenere 700, and again, equal parts on road, off road, the only really critique
11:54about on road performance is, this motorcycle is not, even though it's a middleweight adventure
12:00touring bike, and you can obviously do touring on this bike, road touring is not what this
12:06motorcycle really excels at, as you can see, the fairing is very narrow, which is awesome
12:12for off roading, but it doesn't do as good of a job as other manufacturers' bikes at
12:17blocking the wind at highway speeds, this windscreen is also a little bit short, and
12:24the whole profile of the bike is just designed to be more narrow and more enduro focused,
12:30so yes, you can ride this thing around town, yeah, you can ride it on the freeway for,
12:34you know, 25 miles, no problem, but if you were gonna ride this motorcycle from state
12:39to state on road, there's more effective options out there that are gonna give you more comfort,
12:46but that said, they're gonna give you more road comfort, but they might not give you
12:50as much off road prowess, so just something to keep in mind, you know, I'd really like
12:58if this bike had cruise control, I'd really like if it had heated grips, obviously those
13:04are more touring friendly options, but come on, I do like, though, the ability to pair
13:10your iOS or Android powered smartphone and you can really view maintenance intervals
13:15on this vehicle, speaking of maintenance intervals, after initial service, this motorcycle goes
13:216,000 miles between engine oil changes, 6,000 miles between engine oil changes, it holds
13:28right over two quarts of engine oil, and the engine oil filter is recommended to be swapped
13:36every other oil change, so every 12,000 miles you change the engine oil filter, so 6,000 mile
13:44engine oil interval changes, 12,000 spin-on cartridge type engine oil filter changes,
13:52Yamaha also recommends taking a look at the air filter at 12,000 miles,
13:59and the spark plugs, oddly enough, it wants you to replace the spark plugs at 6,000 miles,
14:05so it wants you to replace the spark plugs even sooner than the air filter, which is kind of crazy
14:11to me, and then in terms of a valve inspection interval, again, we said this engine has dual
14:20overhead camshaft valve train, eight valve cylinder head, Yamaha recommends you check the
14:25valve clearance on each of the eight valves at 24,000 mile increments, isn't that crazy
14:32that a real off-road going adventure bike can go 24,000 miles between valve inspection
14:41checks, that's just amazing, and that's really the Yamaha touch with these bikes, is
14:46these motorcycles are made in Japan, they're ultra high quality, the devil's in the details,
14:52if you look at the frame rails on this steel frame, there's actually areas where you can
14:59literally easily remove the engine, so if you wanted to remove the engine for any reason,
15:03you could really easily unbolt the frame apart, and the engine comes right out, how cool is that,
15:10the front fender also has a different adjustment point, so let's say you put on some really beefy
15:16tires, or your front tire gets caked in deep mud, you can literally move that front
15:23fender up to give the bike more clearance, isn't that cool, I love how Yamaha thought of the
15:31details, the foot pegs on this bike, the oversized foot pegs, not only are they nice and oversized
15:37and give you a really nice platform to stand on, but you can easily remove the rubber inserts
15:43for off-road riding, if you want to have more grip against the sole of your boot,
15:48just peel out those rubber inserts, and then you have a grippier surface against the sole of your
15:54boot and the foot peg, and then if you want a little bit of less vibration, you're going to
16:00ride more on the street, you just put those rubber inserts in, it's that easy, it's really
16:06cool to see Yamaha paying attention to the details, for us riders that like to ride real
16:15adventure style rides, all right folks, look we're in the beautiful snow right now, how cool is this,
16:23can you believe it, I would love to ride down in that valley, that would be so sick,
16:32all right folks, I think we're looking for our next stop, obviously you see it's probably
16:36covered in snow, god this is so beautiful folks, I can't believe how beautiful this is,
16:45it's probably in the 60 degrees temperature mark right now, let's look on the 64 degrees,
16:52says the 5-inch color TFT, I'm sure you can't see it because this Insta360 1x3 camera is in the way,
17:01let's move that down so we can see the color TFT, there's the air temperature, 64 degrees,
17:07and we're riding in the snow, there's a nice gear position indicator, the fuel level gauge keeps tabs
17:14on the 4.2 gallon fuel tank, we have a clock, and this QS which says quick shifter is enabled for
17:23full throttle, up shifts without having to use the clutch, yes, then of course we have ABS
17:29manually disabled, which you can manually disable, you have to be at a stop, you have to be stopped,
17:36and you use this thumb wheel to do it here, so you're basically pressing the thumb wheel
17:41like so, and that shows you this setup here which we'll show you here in a minute,
17:47let's go over here, stop the vehicle, vehicle has to be stopped, engine can be on or off,
17:53hit this, you go to ABS mode, ABS mode on, rear ABS off, ABS off all the way, that's what we want,
18:03let's tap and hold, and now we have ABS fully off, every time you reset the motorcycle,
18:09ABS automatically comes on, it also has this goofy ABS on button, so let's say you're riding
18:15off-road, you want ABS on all of a sudden, you just press that button, Yamaha motor can you
18:21please make this button opposite function, so ABS is on, if you want ABS off, you just hold it, that
18:26would make more sense to us, all right folks, we're getting ready for a photo stop, we'll check in
18:30with you in a little bit, all right everyone, another successful photo stop, that's the life of a
18:36modern day power sport journalist, just one photo stop to the next, work, work, work, here is that
18:44key cycle, nice Yamaha logo there, we were talking about the screen, we have the clock, gear shift
18:50position, fuel gauge, let's go back in the menu, we can turn off our ABS, we can pair this thing with
18:58our phone, so we can see phone calls, we can't actually answer phone calls with the bike, so it's
19:02kind of kind of silly, we also have different themes, we can select, let's select the street
19:11theme, there's a new theme, and away we go guys, let's get back on this bike, we didn't talk about
19:19it, but the cable actuated clutch, the clutch pull, it's neither really weak, not, nor really firm, it's
19:28it's a really nice clutch pull, I like it, it has good feel, if you're someone who doesn't have a
19:33really strong left hand, you're still going to be able to pull in the clutch, and the engagement point
19:38is nice and crispy, that's really the awesome thing about this bike, is just the good
19:46synchronization between the controls, the clutch, the throttle, and of course the brake levers, it's
19:54also worth noting that this Yamaha Tenere 700 does not have ride-by-wire throttle, it has a good
20:01old-fashioned pair of throttle cables connecting the right twist grip and the throttle body, so
20:10old school, but that's totally fine, and because this is old school mechanical throttle connection,
20:16it doesn't have traction control or adjustable power modes, Yamaha would need to fit its Y-CCT
20:25ride-by-wire system to enable adjustable power modes and traction control and all that stuff,
20:30but honestly I don't miss these features, we don't miss these features on this bike,
20:35not having the ability to adjust the power modes is not a big deal,
20:38not having traction control is not a big deal, this engine is so friendly and the power band is so
20:45well calibrated that it really makes it easy to ride, even though it doesn't have traction control,
20:51the natural power pulses of the engine, oh my god, look how beautiful that is, make this vehicle feel
20:57like it has traction control, it has inherent traction control inside the engine, just because
21:02the power pulses are so well calibrated, the flywheel weight is just right on this vehicle,
21:11this is so much fun, look at how beautiful this is, folks, I can't even believe
21:16we're getting to do this, the places you get to see and the things you get to experience on a Yamaha
21:23power sport vehicle like the Tenere 700, ten thousand eight hundred dollars, and you can step
21:28up and be in the mix, oh my god, I want to snowboard that hill, look at that hill, I want to
21:33snowboard that thing, oh man, oh man, this is awesome, again, there are other more road-friendly
21:44middleweight ADV bikes out there, not having the broad front fairing, it really puts a lot of wind
21:50onto your chest, it's not freezing cold right now, 65 degrees, which is totally crazy because
21:58there's snow everywhere, but the air bouncing off that snow definitely makes the air a little
22:04chillier feeling than 65, this bike also has really bright LED headlamps, you know, we didn't get a
22:14chance to ride at night, again, we're on a lead follow type ride, so we can't evaluate this vehicle
22:21in our typical battery of high performance tests that we do at our office, so, but the headlight,
22:30the LED headlight on this bike works really good during night rides when we've ridden it before,
22:37we also have a nice 5 volt 2 amp USB-C port right here, so you can power your gadgets,
22:442 amps is a little bit low on the power, 5 amp would be better, be more fast charging style,
22:50but 2 amps is enough to keep things going with your smartphone or GPS, which you can mount
22:57right here, that's a really nice touch, I like it, good job Yamaha,
23:05all right folks, we're gonna keep on rolling, we'll check in with you in a little bit,
23:12all right everyone, this is super cool, if you can even believe it, this morning when we started
23:17recording our video and began our ride, we were right there, if you can even see that place,
23:23the white buildings right next to the lake, that's where we began our ride, it's probably 10 miles
23:29from here in Taylor Springs, Colorado, I'd say 10 miles by the way the crow flies, so really cool
23:36that Yamaha Scenera A700 is able to take us up here, see the sights and sounds, it's awesome,
23:42well folks, that was a fun little blast up to the snow on the pavement, now we're back on the dirt
23:50in our natural element, JK, everywhere is our natural element, street, dirt, space, water,
23:59whatever, ha ha ha, back to the Scenera A700, we are making our way back to the cabin
24:07on this true track road, overall this Yamaha Scenera A700, this is a really nice bike,
24:13checks a lot of the boxes for the modern day adventure, would-be adventure touring rider,
24:21capable on-road, capable off-road, while it's not the best for distance touring,
24:27it is good for around town riding and short touring missions on the street, I'm sure if
24:33you fit a taller windscreen, some heated grips and some other things, you might have a more
24:38confident touring bike, distance touring bike we should say, of course the suspension on this
24:43motorcycle, it does a great job of finding grip in this hard slick terrain, it still has enough
24:54support, so if you hit any big bumps or g-outs, you are going to have support,
24:59the thing is not just going to fold and bottom out and be uncomfortable, but also glides over
25:04the rough stuff on the street really nice, and I love the ergonomics on this motorcycle, six foot
25:09tall, this bike feels like a real dirt bike, again if you're a more height challenged rider, you can
25:15always opt for the standard seat or even opt for Yamaha's accessory suspension lowering kit, which
25:23lowers the rear of the bike to make it more accommodating for all of you folks who are a
25:28little on the shorter spectrum, well folks that wraps up our official tour on Yamaha's Tenere 700
25:40part of Yamaha's 2024 adventure ride, if you want to participate next year's ride, make sure to log
25:46on to the Blue Crew website, sign up, compose a nice letter explaining why you should be chosen
25:54for the next one, include your Yamaha products VIN number, again it doesn't have to be a Yamaha
25:59Tenere 700 and it doesn't have to be a new bike, it can be a couple years old, it doesn't matter,
26:08as long as you're a Tuning Fork brand rider, you are part of the family and you can participate
26:15maybe in next year's event, as always make sure to give this video a thumbs up if you liked it,
26:20thumbs it down if you didn't, log on to our website to read all of our thousands of
26:27words and many many many articles on this particular product from
26:32Yamaha Motor and we'll see in the next episode, thanks for riding with us.
