00:00New statistics released by the Office of National Statistics have shown that crime rates in
00:05the West Midlands have reduced. In the figures that have been released, the data from the
00:09Office of National Statistics covers the period July 2023 to June 2024. It shows significant
00:15reductions in crimes which cause the most harm to communities. This includes reductions
00:20in robbery, burglary, vehicle crime, theft from the person and violent crime including
00:25domestic abuse. Total crime reported across the West Midlands has been reduced by 10%.
00:30That's 323,197 offences compared to the same period last year. There have also been considerable
00:37decreases in youth violence of 9%, domestic abuse reports by 14%, homicide by 7%, robbery
00:45by 5%, 13% for vehicle crimes and almost 12% drop in burglaries, while theft from the person
00:53has been 28% decreased.
