00:00And start with Fernando Mania passing away, and the story of his death at 63.
00:11Which one are you going with here?
00:14We are going to start a fresh hour with the World Series.
00:18That is where we are going to go now here, of course, with the Yankees and the Dodgers
00:22getting ready for Friday night.
00:24We mentioned at the top of the show, and you and Gabe talked about it, Fernando Valenzuela
00:28passed away at 63 years old, of course, burst onto the scene, big part of that 81 team that
00:35season through that no-hitter.
00:36I saw, I love those clips of that no-hitter with Vin Scully on the call against the Cardinals
00:40in, I believe that was 1990.
00:43So Fernando Mania, which spread across the land for the Dodgers, unfortunately, Scottie
00:49passing away at 63 last night, late.
00:53Always awful to hear of legends passing.
00:56I also am rooting heavily against the Dodgers, starting, well, every day, but now in earnest
01:05on Friday with Game 1 of the World Series, I have no time to worry about this after today.
01:11I feel horrible for him, his family, the Dodgers, and the organization and baseball in general.
01:18When a legend passes, it's always a terrible thing, but these things happen, as you know,
01:24and it's just tough for everybody, everyone grieving.
01:27And then I am more worried, as you know, about Garrett Cole and the Yankees in Game 1 against
01:32Clarity Friday night.
01:33That's all I care about.
01:34No offense.
01:35I feel awful for anyone that loved him.
01:38I loved watching him pitch.
01:39I saw him pitch 100 times.
01:41I saw him pitch live 100 times.
01:44So I actually, you know, I'll be able to move past it.
01:49I'm on to the World Series real quick.
01:52And yesterday, Dave Roberts was on to the World Series.
01:56We joked that it would probably be until Friday afternoon with him to name his starting pitcher
02:01for Game 1.
02:02But, you know, the league, they want this stuff.
02:05They want to get all the hype, build everything up.
02:07I'm sure they told Roberts, let's go, tell us who's starting, and it will be Jack Clarity
02:12in Game 1 against Garrett Cole.
02:14They will pitch Yamamoto in Game 2 on Saturday night.
02:18So the rotation set up for the Dodgers for the first couple of days in Los Angeles.
02:24The other injury stuff for them of concern was Freddie Freeman.
02:28He said yesterday he is going to be 100% ready to go Friday night in Game 1.
02:34So the Dodgers looking healthy as they get ready for the Yankees, Scotty.
02:39I like the Yankees' chances against Clarity with Cole going.
02:43I really do.
02:44Now what?
02:45Is it Rodan in Game 2?
02:46Is that what they're doing?
02:47The Yankees have not said that yet.
02:50They have not said who is pitching in Game 2.
02:53All they have done is say Cole in Game 1.
02:56Now there's some theories here.
02:57You let me know what you like better.
02:59Many believe that you pitched the lefty, Rodan, at home at Yankee Stadium.
03:05At Game 2.
03:07And it's, you know, that has been the talk that's been thrown around.
03:11I personally, like you, would do that.
03:13I'd pitch Schmidt on Saturday night in Game 2 and save Rodan for Yankee Stadium.
03:18And would you pitch Cortez in Game 4?
03:20They think he's going to pitch.
03:22Would you let another lefty go out there and see what he's made of?
03:26It sounds like if Cortez is involved, and I'm going to play you what he said in a couple
03:30of minutes.
03:31If he's involved, it sounds like it's out of the bullpen.
03:33It doesn't sound like he's going to be a guy that's going to start.
03:36So it sounds like Game 4 would be Louie Heal, like in the Cleveland series.
03:41He would be the guy that gets the ball.
03:43Roberts said yesterday, he doesn't know yet about 3 and 4.
03:47He's got two options.
03:48One of them will be a bullpen game.
03:51The other will be Walker Bueller.
03:52I'm sure that's going to be determined, Scottie, by are they up 2-0, are they down 2-0, are
03:58they 1-1?
03:59Whatever they are going to New York on Wednesday is probably one.
04:02How much does he use his bullpen?
04:04Is it fresh for Monday?
04:07So those things will be determined down the line.
04:10I've got a lot of Yankee stuff for you, because why not?
04:13I mean, we're rooting for the Yankees.
04:15We're going to let you know that right now.
04:17Let's start with Aaron Judge, a couple from him.
04:19Number one, he has obviously done a lot in the Yankee uniform, but for the first time,
04:24he is going to be playing in the Fall Classic.
04:27Very excited.
04:28Yeah, the journey's always a tough one, but I think that's the fun in all this is enjoying
04:35those good times, the bad times, learning from them, trying to improve from them so
04:41you can get to this point.
04:43So now getting to this point, this is where the real fun starts, you know, for years.
04:50As a kid watching the Yankees playing the World Series, winning the World Series, just
04:55that excitement, the emotion, how the city comes alive is something definitely special,
05:01and I'm looking forward to doing that with this group.
05:06I mean, honestly, this kid's from California.
05:09He's done so much in California.
05:12He hits the ball very well at Dodger Stadium.
05:16So does Stanton.
05:17Stanton has hit balls out of Dodger Stadium.
05:21So you know, Soto, to me, can hit anywhere.
05:25He can hit on the moon.
05:27So you know, if they can get those three going and then add a Labor Day bat and one guy from
05:33five to nine produces, like I actually thought Volpe has played well in the playoffs and
05:39been making contact, and I've had absolutely no gripes about Jazz and Volpe on that left
05:46side of that infield.
05:47They're good.
05:48This is a good team.
05:49So, you know, I would say Bueller would be a guy I'd worry about in New York.
05:52He's already come to New York and Citi Field and made mincemeat out of the Mets.
05:57So he's not afraid of big games.
05:59And he, you know, emphatically says such.
06:01He's like, all I care about is big games.
06:03I don't care about regular season baseball.
06:05I don't care if I'm injured.
06:07Call me in October.
06:08I'm good to go.
06:09That guy is a money pitcher.
06:11So what I saw him do after two Tommy John's to the Mets, I mean, his ball was moving like
06:17crazy and he had all kinds of zip on it.
06:20So I'd worry about him at Yankee Stadium.
06:23I'll tell you that much.
06:24Like if I'm going to be honest with you, if it's like a Rodan Bueller matchup, I'm going
06:28to I'd probably bet on Bueller.
06:31You mentioned, obviously, Judge being a SoCal, California guy, Stanton as well.
06:36We gave you all those gaudy numbers yesterday of what both of these guys have done at Dodger
06:41Stadium.
06:42Let's just say Judge is looking forward to hitting that.
06:44It's going to be fun.
06:45I got a lot of family down there in Southern California, a lot of cousins that are down
06:48there that are going to be coming to the game.
06:51But I always love playing at Dodger Stadium.
06:53It's electric atmosphere.
06:54You know, one of the best fields in the game.
06:58It's definitely, I think a lot of guys are looking forward to, I know even Giancarlo
07:02as well.
07:03He's talked about it.
07:04You know, it's his favorite place to play.
07:05So it's definitely going to be a good time out there with a lot of friends and family
07:09and it's going to be a good time.
07:13His attitude is so unbelievable.
07:14It's like it's all just a big joke, like none of it's serious.
07:17He's always smiling and taking it all in stride.
07:20It's amazing to me.
07:21Like he shows no nerves at all.
07:23It's like he's actually having fun.
07:27It does seem like he's actually having fun, which is good.
07:29I think that getting to this point was a very big stress relief for him and Boone because
07:36those are the two guys that kind of over these last few years, when are they going to actually
07:40get to a World Series?
07:41But just getting here isn't going to be enough.
07:44They got to win it because if they don't win it, it just puts it right back on your back.
07:49Yeah, you got there, but you didn't win.
07:52You got to finish the job.
07:54But Boone talking about the series and who he's giving the ball to.
08:01He's very happy that he's going to be giving the ball to Garrett Cole, the Yankee ace.
08:05They spent a lot of money on Cole.
08:07Now it is time to deliver.
08:08To give the ball to Garrett Cole to start postseason series and how can he set the tone
08:12for you in this one?
08:13Yeah, I mean, he's he's been everything we could have hoped when we brought him here.
08:17You know, he's he's been, you know, one of this era's aces.
08:22Obviously, he's had a great career on a Hall of Fame track, you know, beat us in 19 with
08:30Houston and then to be able to bring him here.
08:35You know, he obviously walked in here with a lot of expectations and a lot of weight
08:38on him to be the ace of our staff.
08:42And he's been every bit of that.
08:44He won a Cy Young on a team that sucked.
08:47I mean, they didn't even make the playoffs and he won the Cy Young.
08:51So he was the only thing bright about that team and the fact that he's pitching game
08:55one of the World Series.
08:56This is a guy that spent his entire life just obsessed with the Yankees.
09:03So since he was a little kid, he wanted to be a Yankee.
09:06And here he is, the Yankee.
09:08And now he's pitching in the World Series.
09:09This is gigantic.
09:12It really is.
09:13He'll be out there, of course, for game number one.
09:15You mentioned Nestor Cortez before.
09:16Now we don't know if it's official yet that he's going to be on the roster.
09:21But if he is, he is absolutely ready to risk it all to be out there for his team.
09:26We even had a conversation last year in Cleveland, you know, when Hamilton went down and talked
09:33about it, talked about the situation.
09:35And he was also, you know, adamant, no.
09:39And Leiter got activated, you know, and he did his thing.
09:42But I think the conversations have been really clear throughout the whole season.
09:48And we have weighed in the consequences, you know, that this can lead up to.
09:52But if I have a ring and then a year off of baseball, so be it.
09:57Yeah, I mean, he's crazy, but, you know, I kind of like it.
10:02He's like, and let's face it, he has busted his ass for this team.
10:07This guy pitches his ass off.
10:11I mean, for the last few years, he's been out there grinding and doing his thing.
10:16And he, you know, you can give him the ball and he works.
10:19So I'm not going to argue with his risk factor.
10:23If he wants it that bad, let him have it.
10:25Like, honestly, there are guys in the history of the game that pitched till their arm fell off.
10:31The guy wants to win.
10:32He wants to be out there.
10:34He loves his Yankees and his teammates.
10:38And he loves being a part of this.
10:40Nasty's crazy.
10:41So you expect anything less?
10:43I don't.
10:45I don't expect anything less either.
10:47I think they will put him on the roster, and I think that he will be a part of it.
10:51We will find that out on Friday, of course.
10:54The Dodgers are favored to win the World Series.
10:56We know this already at minus a buck 22.
11:00But what really matters here now is that it is time for the season-long World Series,
11:05the series-long World Series props.
11:07Since I'm not going to be with you on Friday before game one, I figured I'd give you the
11:11taste of these today before Friday night.
11:14All right, here we go.
11:15Here's a few for you.
11:16When the Yankees are in game one of the World Series, we needed you.
11:21And then there you went again to your big golf tournament because the Yankees, you and
11:25I have an affinity for the Yankees.
11:27And then there you go.
11:28And where are you hanging out on top of it all?
11:30Up near Boston.
11:31What, are you going to wear your Yankee hat?
11:35Oh, believe me, they don't like us.
11:39They don't like us at this place that we're going to.
11:42We have had incidents there in the past during Yankee playoff games.
11:46So it is going to be a rowdy atmosphere Friday and Saturday night for us at the Cape Cod
11:52Irish Open.
11:53All right, here's what I'm going with.
11:54I don't think anyone wins this series in less than six games.
11:57I think that this series is going to have some length to it.
11:59So instead of paying that, what did I just see up there?
12:01Plus 105, plus 104 for the Yankees to win the series?
12:04Forget that.
12:05Take the unit and split it in half.
12:07Yankees in six at plus 600, Yankees in seven at plus 500.
12:11If they win the series, it's going to be a lengthy one.
12:14We're going to go with that.
12:15Here to hit the longest home run of the World Series, it'll happen in Dodger Stadium and
12:22it'll be Giancarlo Stanton, plus 550, longest by distance home run of the World Series.
12:29We're going to go with Stanton.
12:30Most hits in the World Series, Soto, plus 850 to have the most hits in the entire series
12:39of all the players.
12:40We'll go with that.
12:41This one, we know that Otani or Judge is probably going to be who hits the most home runs in
12:46the World Series.
12:47But if you want a deep shot, something a little further down the board that I think has a
12:51little bit of gas, how about Muncie at 11 to 1 to hit the most home runs in the World
12:56Series?
12:57Short porch at Yankee Stadium.
12:58We know he hits them at Dodger Stadium.
13:00I like that price.
13:01World Series MVP, Soto at plus 550.
13:05And my deep shot, small play deep shot, World Series MVP.
13:10Luke Weaver at, get this, Scotty, 220 to 1 to be the World Series MVP.
13:17Now I know, stars everywhere, Otani, Judge, Soto, Betts, Giancarlo, all these names, closers
13:27have won the World Series MVP a lot in the past.
13:31Wetland won it.
13:32Mariano won it.
13:34Let's say Weaver saves four games.
13:37Let's say he saves four games and three of them are more than an inning.
13:41He'll be in the conversation and that's a hell of a ticket to have if he does that.
13:45So that's my small deep shot.
13:46220 to 1, you'll be retired.
13:47You'll be living in Cape Cod.
13:48You'll buy the golf course.
13:49You'll fire the entire staff that doesn't like Yankee fans.
13:50Now that's a plan.
13:51It's a fun one.
13:52It's a fun one with a little bit of gas, 220 to 1 for Luke Weaver.
13:53Can we keep those sheet of integrity for the remainder of the week, Scott?
13:54Yes.
13:55We'll keep those.
13:56We'll keep those.
13:57We'll keep those.
13:58We'll keep those.
13:59We'll keep those.
14:00We'll keep those.

15:23We'll keep those.
15:24We'll keep those.
15:25We'll keep those.
15:26We'll keep those.
15:27We'll keep those.
15:28We'll keep those.
15:29We'll keep those.
15:30We'll keep those.
15:31We'll keep those.
15:32We'll keep those.
15:33We'll keep those.
15:34It might be 513 million, you know, for 10, not 14.
15:40They got the dollars maybe right.
15:43I even think the dollars are going to be short, but he's not signing 14 years.
15:47I don't think that that's going to be the case whatsoever.
15:50But let's get through this next two weeks first.
15:52I can't think about the future.
15:54I need to think about now.
15:56I want to see him win first, and then we'll deal with all the money and the nonsense with
16:00him afterwards.
16:01Now, the Mets season is over, so they have 10 pending free agents from their playoff
16:06roster.
16:07Alonzo, Bader, Iglesias, Minaya, Jadie Martinez, Quintana, Severino, Winker, Adovino, Stanek.
16:13That's a lot of guys off of a team that just went to the NLCS.
16:17Stearns and the crew there are going to have a lot of work to do this offseason.
16:21Yeah, look.
16:22I mean, I think they're making a mistake with Alonzo.
16:24I won't be surprised he's gone.
16:26Bader's gone.
16:27I think Iglesias gone.
16:29I think Minaya gone.
16:32I think definitely Jadie Martinez gone.
16:36Quintana's a guy I think they should keep.
16:39I think they should consider keeping the lefty.
16:41I think Severino gone.
16:44I think Winker stays.
16:47I think Adovino and Stanek both gone.
16:51Adovino stinks.
16:52They should absolutely get rid of him.
16:54Ohtani's 50-50 home run ball finally sold at auction, $4.39 million for the baseball.
17:07This is why any time that they try, you catch a ball that even has any kind of significance,
17:13don't let them bring you downstairs and try to strong arm you with some signed jersey
17:18and a picture.
17:20Make sure you walk out of there with the ball, because this guy got $4.39 million for
17:26that baseball.
17:27He's set.
17:28Set.
17:29Finished.
17:30He's set.
17:31I mean, just, you gotta be kidding me.
17:33He's quitting his job today.
17:34It's over.
17:35He's getting a job.
17:36He should.
17:37He should be doing that.
17:38And last baseball thing for you today, Major League Baseball wants to raise to find a local
17:44replacement because Tropicana Field most likely is not going to be ready by April, of course
17:50wrecked by Hurricane Milton now.
17:52People just assumed that, oh, they're going to play in Montreal or something like that.
17:58That's not happening.
17:59Baseball wants them to stay in Florida.
18:02Now they do spring training in Port Charlotte, which I guess is what, an hour south, 45 minutes
18:09south of Tampa.
18:12Like you know, there's not many great options when you think about it.
18:16I don't know where they're going to play next year.
18:18All those stadiums, the legends field, Sarasota, Ed Smith, Port Charlotte, all of them are
18:24minor league spring training facilities.
18:27They are not built for regular season baseball.
18:32I mean, I have no idea what they're going to do.
18:36I got to be honest with you there.
18:38They got a real bad situation there.
18:40I mean, I even saw one, you know, I saw someone joking that, you know, play without the roof.
18:50Just play baseball there.
18:52And at some level, where the hell else are they going to play?
18:57They're not going to play in Port Charlotte.
19:005,000 seats.
19:02I know.
19:03I look and people bring up the Jays played in Dunedin yet during COVID.
19:07Yeah, but there was nobody there.
19:10There was nobody coming to the games, which is why the Jays played in Dunedin.
19:14It didn't matter that it was a minor league ballpark.
19:17So listen, it's a very unfortunate situation.
19:21We've all made fun of the trop for a very long time about what a dump it is.
19:26I mean, a hurricane ripped the roof off the thing, but they're going to have to figure
19:29something out in short order because that place ain't going to be ready by April.
19:36It's probably not going to be the whole year, but they're going to have to get through at
19:41least a couple of months.
19:42They're building a new one anyway.
19:43They need to tear it down.
19:44Correct.
19:45They are going to be building that new stadium down there.
19:49So we shall see with that.
