There's plenty of Easter eggs knocking around God of War. Some expected and some not so much, for example, a nod to the Hulk in Marvel movies may or may not have been scripted...

00:00CONSIDERING GOD OF WAR IS SATURATED IN NORSE MYTHOLOGY AND CALLBACKS TO CROTUS' SORID
00:10PAST, IT'S REALLY NO SURPRISE THAT PEOPLE ARE BEGINNING TO DIG UP EASTER EGGS.
00:14Most are hiding away in plain sight, a cliché phrase, I know, but considering that I know
00:19for sure that you've been staring at AT LEAST two of them for a good knows how many
00:23hours, it's especially true in this case.
00:25Here's 11 God of War easter eggs we've spotted.
00:28Just be warned, there are some considerable endgame spoilers in this video.
00:40Before you visit Brock's shop and buy Atreus a set of much needed new clothes, take a close
00:45look at the ones he starts off with.
00:47Around his hips is tied a red and gold sash with a geometric pattern, otherwise known
00:51as the loincloth Kratos used to wear when he was rampaging around Greece.
00:55I don't know if I can picture the emotionally closed off Kratos we saw at the beginning
00:59of God of War handing the cloth to Atreus with Gravitas, so it seems more likely that
01:04his mother Faye crafted it into a sash for her son.
01:07Aww.
01:08While we're on the topic of clothing, to find one of the best secrets all you have
01:12to do is switch your attention to Kratos.
01:14You'll see red leather straps underneath his leather waistcloth.
01:18With a golden stud at the end of each one, they're leftover from his costume in the
01:21previous God of War games where he wore a spartan skirt underneath his loincloth.
01:26Guess he's finding it pretty hard to let go of the past.
01:29Either that, or he didn't see the point in throwing away perfectly good leather.
01:32Which sounds just as likely, to be honest.
01:36Avengers Infinity War and the devastatingly powerful gauntlet that it centres around has
01:40transcended movies to also appear in games, and Sony has joined Fortnite in playing tribute
01:45to Marvel's mega movie with this God of War easter egg.
01:49Visit Sindri's family business quest to get the Shattered Gauntlet of Ages, which
01:53has fragments of its former strength scattered throughout the realms.
01:56There are six special enchantments that can be affixed to the gauntlet, and if you fill
02:01all three slots the gauntlet can fire a purple beam.
02:05You know, just like Thanos.
02:07Thankfully those exquisitely carved masks don't just disappear into the abyss when you
02:11sell them to Sindri or Brock, as if you keep an eye on their shelves you'll see the artefacts
02:16proudly displayed in the background.
02:18The brothers did pay pretty good money for them, so it makes sense they'd want to show
02:21them off.
02:22Poor Boat Captain.
02:24This unlucky soul has been featured in all the God of War games so far, and Kratos has
02:29always been the subject of his hate.
02:31In the first game Kratos let him fall to his death, he killed the captain after he was
02:35summoned to fight him in God of War 2, and in God of War 3 you find a furious note from
02:40him.
02:41The latest game is no different either, as one of the treasure maps references the Boat
02:44Captain's ruined ship as a nifty little easter egg.
02:48The poor guy just can't catch a break, can he?
02:51Kratos has some daddy issues, which really isn't a surprise when you consider the fact
02:55that his father Zeus is a megalomaniac.
02:58When you're on the boat out of hell you see an illusion of Zeus and Kratos fighting, a
03:02direct replication of the final boss battle from God of War 3.
03:06The camera snaps into first person as you see Atreus recoil in horror at the sight.
03:11This is the only time during the game that first person is used, just like in God of
03:15War 3 when you see through Kratos' eyes as he delivers his finishing blows to Zeus.
03:21When you're fighting the stranger at the beginning of the game, if you look at the
03:23rock you're about to smash him into with the tree trunk, you'll find it's actually
03:27a bit of a secret mural from Jotunheim, who knows how it got there.
03:32Although considering Faye's gift for prophecy, as she definitely knew what was on the cards
03:36for Kratos and Atreus, she probably found a way to put it there.
03:40As we're on the subject of Jotunheim and murals, translating the text beside Kratos
03:44gives you the name, Farbauti.
03:47In Norse mythology, Farbauti is Loki's father, which makes sense now that it's been revealed
03:52that Atreus was going to be called Loki.
03:54The Jotunheim murals even explain why Faye called Kratos Farbauti, it means cruel striker.
03:59She obviously knew of his fame as a great god killer thanks to her Jotun gift of foresight.
04:04Now that we're on the subject of family, one of the sweetest God of War easter eggs
04:07is that Kratos has a nickname for his wife, Faye.
04:11Her full name is actually Laufey, who was Loki's giantess mother in the Norse myth.
04:16As Kratos is a Spartan, he could call Laufey, Faye, for short to be more efficient with
04:21the words he uses, similarly to how he calls Atreus, boy.
04:25Or it could just be the closest he gets to a pet name, either is quite sweet.
04:29Peer at the opening screen and you'll see two wooden carvings of Kratos and Atreus.
04:34Look closer at Kratos and it almost seems like he has an eye patch over his right eye.
04:39Do you know who else is missing an eye?
04:41Odin.
04:42Later on in the game, Kratos also journeys around with Mimir's head attached to his
04:46belt, who gives advice to the Spartan.
04:48Odin does exactly the same thing with Mimir's head in Norse myth.
04:52Could Kratos and Odin be one and the same?
04:55After you fight the trolls of Ash and Frost in Tyr's temple, Kratos says,
04:59I have beaten Vader.
05:01He fought a titan, so he's 100% right to be a bit cocky.
05:05Atreus replies with, puny trolls.
05:08Sounds familiar, right?
05:09That's because it's almost the same phrase the Hulk mutters in The Avengers after smashing
05:13Loki into the ground at Stark Tower.
05:16As Atreus is destined to become Loki, this little nod to the movie is nothing less than
05:20bloody brilliant.
