U.S. presidential election candidate Donald Trump has accused UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour Party of "blatant foreign interference" in the vote after some volunteers traveled to help campaign for his opponent Kamala Harris.

The Republican candidate's camp has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in Washington, calling for an investigation into what it termed apparently illegal contributions from Labour to the Harris campaign.

Labour leader Starmer denied that the complaint would damage relations with Trump if the former president wins again on Nov. 5, saying Labour supporters were volunteering in their own time.

00:00The story started with a post on LinkedIn published by an official from
00:04the UK's Labour Party which since July has been governing the country. That post
00:10has now been deleted but shared here by an opposition Conservative Party
00:14politician. It promised to arrange accommodation for Labour Party members
00:18who were willing to travel to the United States to campaign in support of a
00:23Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. That prompted a fierce reaction from the
00:28Trump campaign. It accused Labour of election interference comparing it with
00:33Britain's colonial rule of America. It's also filed a complaint to the US
00:38Federal Election Commission and threatened legal action. A British
00:43right-wing member of Parliament has also waded in. Nigel Farage who has the
00:48Reform Party and has himself campaigned in the US for Donald Trump was quick to
00:53condemn the Labour Party. But UK ministers insist they haven't broken any
00:58rules because foreigners are allowed to campaign in US elections as long as
01:03they are not paid to do so. It's up to private citizens how they use their time
01:09and their money and it's not unusual for supporters of a party in one country to
01:14go and campaign for a sister party in another. It happens both ways round and
01:18across many many countries but none of this was organised or funded by the
01:23Labour Party itself. This is individual people making their own choices as
01:27they're free to do. The incident has left many wondering quite how this may
01:32impact transatlantic relations between Britain and the United States especially
01:37if Donald Trump moves back into the White House.
