00:00My name is Jonathan Cooles, I'm a Chief Inspector of the British Transport Police
00:04and this afternoon I'm going to provide a statement on behalf of the British Transport Police
00:08although I won't be answering any questions.
00:15We were called to a line near Llanbrin Mawr at 7.29pm on the 21st of October
00:24with reports of a low-speed train collision involving two trains.
00:33There was a multi-agency emergency service response including the Welsh Ambulance Service,
00:41Mid and West Fire Service, David Powys Police and His Majesty's Course Guard
00:49along with support from the rail industry.
00:56Sadly a man in his 60s has died following the collision.
01:04The circumstances leading to his death are currently under investigation.
01:14His next of kin have been informed and the family will receive
01:18ongoing specialist support from specialist officers.
01:27While formal identification has not taken place he is not believed to be a member of rail staff.
01:37Our thoughts remain with his loved ones
01:41and we kindly ask that they give him privacy during this very difficult time.
01:49A further 15 people were taken to hospital
01:53with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
02:01All other passengers were safely evacuated from the train.
02:07While we are working at pace along with our colleagues in other emergency services
02:14and the rail industry to understand the circumstances leading up to the collision
02:20as a result there will be continued emergency service presence in the area for the next coming
