00:00:00There's a reunit for a missing person.
00:00:25A white male, with something or other, had long hair and a beard.
00:00:34He was alone.
00:00:37License number, St. Vincent's Coach.
00:00:40Class D David.
00:00:44No idea what was going on there?
00:00:47No, I just made...
00:00:55735 John, any other units? 10-52 Channel 1 at 23-08.
00:01:04Okay, he's got no record found on his face, and negative.
00:01:07And I'm not getting any of the DM's on him. No record found.
00:01:12On March 4th, 1996, a missing persons report was filed with the Jackson County Police Department by a Miss Judy Dixon.
00:01:19Miss Dixon reported that her son, a Mr. Baron Dixon, had left a panic-stricken message on her answering machine,
00:01:27stating that Mr. Dixon would be leaving and never coming back.
00:01:31His vehicle and his belongings were found by the County Sheriff's Department.
00:01:35Mr. Dixon had arranged to meet with two friends at a designated campsite that the trio was familiar with.
00:01:42Mr. Dixon's vehicle was discovered about five miles south of that campsite.
00:01:48The two friends Mr. Dixon had arranged to meet were a Mr. Randy Kenneth Sloan and a Mr. Edward T. Tackett.
00:01:58So right here is where it happened. We had the fire going here.
00:02:02And then it was that ridge right there that this shape, or like a light bubble thing formed.
00:02:11And then the fire started.
00:02:13And then we got to the campsite.
00:02:16And then we got to the campsite.
00:02:18And then we got to the campsite.
00:02:20And then it was that ridge right there that this shape, or like a light bubble thing, floated right on down this way.
00:02:33It's crazy.
00:02:37Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett had admitted to using hallucinogenics on the night in question.
00:02:44It was the biggest spaceship I had ever seen.
00:02:48Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett had outstanding warrants for their arrest.
00:02:54I had an unpaid speeding ticket.
00:02:58And I just had some problems with neighbors about some noises coming from my garages. That's all.
00:03:08Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett were questioned and later booked into county jail for their outstanding warrants.
00:03:15Well, you know, it sounds insane. I'd call me insane too if I was me.
00:03:20But it was like a light or like a vessel.
00:03:25And it just floated real graceful like down there.
00:03:28No jerking at all.
00:03:30No. And it was no lights.
00:03:32And there weren't no lights.
00:03:34And like, it was about this big.
00:03:37Investigating officers described the witnesses as excitable and incoherent.
00:03:44And when I put, it was about this big. When I put my hand up, it was about, yeah, that big.
00:03:50How, how close was it?
00:03:53If I'd had a rock, I could have hit it. Yeah.
00:03:57And then it just, one second, it was gone.
00:04:00Mr. Dixon's vehicle was subsequently impounded
00:04:03and his belongings were entrusted to his mother, Mrs. Judy Dixon.
00:04:08Barron is my only child.
00:04:10Barron was always fascinated with spaceships.
00:04:14He loved spaceships.
00:04:16Ever since he was a little baby.
00:04:19I thought he'd be a football player when he grew up.
00:04:23But he wasn't.
00:04:26I thought he'd be a football player when he grew up.
00:04:30But he never got interested in sports at all.
00:04:34His only interest was outer space things.
00:04:47I think about a year.
00:04:49I think he worked here for about a year.
00:04:51I hated it.
00:04:53Yeah, we all hated it. I hated that guy.
00:04:55All he did was talk about fucking spaceships.
00:04:58All he did was talk about spaceships.
00:05:00All the fucking time.
00:05:01All the time.
00:05:02He got a little sick of hearing that all the time.
00:05:03Remember that one thing we used to say?
00:05:04Yeah, he used to say, he used to go,
00:05:05Spaceships are gonna take me away!
00:05:08We'd all fucking cry.
00:05:09Oh, man.
00:05:10He was a little dick.
00:05:11He was a shady pussy.
00:05:12Fucking hated him too.
00:05:13Oh, yeah.
00:05:14God, he was an idiot.
00:05:15He just didn't fit in.
00:05:19His only friends were Ed and Randy.
00:05:23And I don't think they were a very good influence on him.
00:05:28Did you take hallucinogenics on the night that Baron disappeared?
00:05:34I took four hits of acid.
00:05:37Well, I had twelve originally.
00:05:39But I took one of Ed's, so maybe I had five hits.
00:05:44And I had some of Baron's too.
00:05:46So that was probably...
00:05:48So Ed probably had seven or eight.
00:05:53I tried to keep Baron away from him.
00:05:57We were pretty fucked up,
00:05:59because we took all of Baron's acid when he didn't show up.
00:06:05Yeah, we'd been waiting around the fire pit for him,
00:06:08and he didn't show up.
00:06:10But he had called me at 5 p.m.
00:06:13And he had told me that that was the night.
00:06:17He knew they were coming.
00:06:19Yeah, he knew it.
00:06:20Because he'd been talking about aliens all his life.
00:06:23He said they were coming.
00:06:24But he never said that they were coming that night.
00:06:28And he was serious.
00:06:30He never said that before.
00:06:32In all the 20 years I knew him,
00:06:34he never had any false alarms or anything.
00:06:38No, that was the night.
00:06:40He knew it.
00:06:44The two witnesses claim
00:06:46that while on their hallucinogenic experience,
00:06:49they did not see a spaceship.
00:06:52But what they did see, and I quote,
00:06:54is a space-traveling vessel.
00:06:58What?
00:06:59Do you...
00:07:00The police feel that because you took hallucinogens,
00:07:04that maybe you hallucinated the spacecraft.
00:07:07That you didn't see a spacecraft.
00:07:09I might have been fucked up,
00:07:11but I know when I see a spaceship.
00:07:14I told them it wasn't a spaceship.
00:07:17It was a space vessel.
00:07:21I suspected that they were trying to get Barron
00:07:25to do something with drugs the same as they were.
00:07:33See, what I was saying before was about
00:07:37how the scope you can shoot for a mile away,
00:07:39but with this, when you're shooting them close,
00:07:41like this we are,
00:07:43you shoot underneath the scope with the...
00:07:46That's a good setup.
00:07:48But if he was a mile away,
00:07:50I'd just look in the scope,
00:07:52and then I could hit him.
00:07:53Well, okay.
00:07:54I'm gonna shoot the dog in the face.
00:08:00Make that a hundred Dalmatians.
00:08:06When you're shooting at him,
00:08:08you should shoot for him like it's real.
00:08:10Like you should shoot him in the heart,
00:08:12or in the face,
00:08:14or in the belly,
00:08:16or in the groin.
00:08:18You could shoot him in the neck.
00:08:21Neck shot's pretty good.
00:08:23A neck shot will always take him out.
00:08:25So I'm gonna probably shoot this one in the neck.
00:08:30Or I'll try to pop one of his eyes off.
00:08:39There goes that pile of cow shit.
00:08:45I'm gonna shoot them dogs that are fuckin'.
00:09:08Gunshots
00:09:18Ever since he was little,
00:09:20he was fascinated by spaceships,
00:09:22and he talked about aliens and spaceships.
00:09:25Only he called them skyboats.
00:09:28Skyboats?
00:09:30Yes, skyboats.
00:09:32And there were sky mommies and sky daddies.
00:09:36We've got a whole movie of him
00:09:39running around, holding a football over his head,
00:09:42and saying, skyboat, skyboat, skyboat.
00:10:05Piano music
00:10:29Tell me how you knew Judy and Barron.
00:10:32Oh, I live next door to Judy and Barron.
00:10:35Let's see, till Barron was 12 or 13,
00:10:38make it about 20 years.
00:10:40Did he talk to you about aliens much, or stuff like that?
00:10:44That's all he ever talked about,
00:10:47over and over again, over again.
00:10:50It was just too much.
00:10:53So do you believe he was taken away by aliens, or...
00:10:57Yeah, I would say he was.
00:11:00He had just started school, maybe the first grade,
00:11:04when he told me that people from another planet
00:11:07were going to come and take him to another planet.
00:11:11I told him they weren't going to do that.
00:11:14But he said, oh, yes, they are.
00:11:17He was determined on it ever since then.
00:11:20You couldn't tell him any different.
00:11:23Hello, my name is Ruth Seiferlein,
00:11:26and I was Barron's third grade teacher.
00:11:29Barron was a very memorable child, to say the least.
00:11:33He was very creative,
00:11:35always making things, or wanting to make things,
00:11:38or building, or painting, or anything like that.
00:11:42He loved model airplanes, and he was very active.
00:11:47He did talk about aliens and spaceships quite a bit.
00:11:51This is some of the artwork Barron did as a boy.
00:11:55His teachers gave him busy work
00:11:58but to keep his mind occupied,
00:12:02he was just too much for a lot of his teachers.
00:12:23Oh, yes, he also had a habit
00:12:25of keeping his hands in the front of his pants,
00:12:28like down his pants, a lot.
00:12:31I'd pull him aside, and I'd say,
00:12:33Barron, you've got to keep your hands out of your pants.
00:12:36Well, he'd take them out, and he would never give me any trouble.
00:12:40But 2 minutes later, he'd have his hands right back down his pants.
00:12:44I couldn't get him to stop,
00:12:46and it was just one more thing, you know,
00:12:49for the kids to pick on him for.
00:12:53He didn't finish high school.
00:12:56The kids were picking on him too much, and he got tired of it.
00:13:01Barron wet his pants a couple of times during class,
00:13:04and that was hard for the kids to accept.
00:13:07It seemed to compound his problems a lot.
00:13:10One time in high school, Barron read a paper
00:13:13about how he wished that aliens would come for him
00:13:16right in the middle of class
00:13:18so he wouldn't have to go to school or work
00:13:21or do anything he didn't want to do.
00:13:24But the teachers thought he was just nuts.
00:13:29I'm Dr. Matthews.
00:13:31At one time, I was a psychiatrist
00:13:33for the Jackson County Public School System.
00:13:36Barron Dixon was referred to me by Mrs. Bailey,
00:13:40an English teacher at the time.
00:13:43Barron had written a paper in which he wished
00:13:46that aliens would come and remove him from the classroom
00:13:50so that he could prove to his peers
00:13:52that the stories he had told them in the past were true.
00:13:57I began meeting with Barron twice a week,
00:14:03and we talked a great deal about aliens
00:14:06and his wish to disappear.
00:14:09Barron had convinced himself that one day,
00:14:12a date he was not certain of,
00:14:15he would be picked up by a traveling spacecraft
00:14:18and taken to another planet.
00:14:21On this planet, he would be what he referred to
00:14:24as the captain of the workers,
00:14:27or the laborers of that planet.
00:14:30A rather common fantasy, actually.
00:14:34Did he ever talk to you about taking other people
00:14:37to another planet as well?
00:14:40I'm not at liberty to talk to you about anything
00:14:43that his mother did not already make public
00:14:46by publishing his now famous summer vacation report.
00:14:51The school psychiatrist told me
00:14:54that Barron needed a lot of attention.
00:14:57He didn't trust the real world
00:15:00because of all the lies his father had told him.
00:15:04His father was a traveling salesman.
00:15:08See, Barron had caught his father
00:15:11in a motel room with another woman.
00:15:14And it wasn't his mom?
00:15:16It wasn't his mom.
00:15:18And it was shortly after that,
00:15:21he went down to find out who his real parents were.
00:15:25So he went down to the adoption agency
00:15:28and tried to look up the records and everything,
00:15:32and they couldn't find any records on him.
00:15:35And according to their offices,
00:15:38Barron never ever even really existed.
00:15:41So no one knows where Barron came from?
00:15:44Nobody.
00:15:48It is true that Barron was adopted,
00:15:52and it's true that the agency
00:15:55didn't have any record of his existence.
00:15:58We tried to have a baby,
00:16:01but Barron's dad's sperm was crooked.
00:16:06Its tail was bent, and it would just swim in circles.
00:16:11It would never go to the egg.
00:16:27Well, he'd gone down to that motel
00:16:30because his dad was traveling, you know, sales.
00:16:33Barron didn't get to see his father very much.
00:16:36Well, and the thing was that his dad,
00:16:39it was a surprise visit,
00:16:41and his dad didn't know that he was coming down there.
00:16:44Barron had just gotten his driver's license,
00:16:47and he decided to drive up to the city
00:16:50to surprise his dad.
00:16:52And Barron just walks in the room,
00:16:54and there was his dad,
00:16:56and there was this naked woman
00:16:58bouncing around in the hotel bed.
00:17:00And it wasn't his mom.
00:17:02He told Barron that the woman in the room
00:17:05had locked herself out of her room,
00:17:08and he was just letting her use his.
00:17:11All right, I got the sound rolling.
00:17:13You got it? You got everything else rolling?
00:17:15Start rolling?
00:17:17Yeah, yeah, you got it all on this.
00:17:19I'll start with everybody.
00:17:21Okay, good.
00:17:33Mom's fixing, right?
00:17:35Yeah, okay.
00:17:37Found the place, huh?
00:17:39Yeah, we found it.
00:17:41I'm Brian Flackard.
00:17:43I'm the production manager.
00:17:45This is Susie Falk.
00:17:47She's the production assistant.
00:17:49Brian Ferguson on sound.
00:17:51He's our sound man.
00:17:53Behind the camera is Jeff Cochran.
00:17:55Hey, how you doing?
00:17:57Good to meet you.
00:17:59Here, let me get this water off.
00:18:02And, uh...
00:18:04You found the place, huh?
00:18:06We found it, and it's nice to meet you.
00:18:08Very nice to meet you.
00:18:10Well, where do you want to do this?
00:18:12We can do it inside.
00:18:14Out here, probably inside.
00:18:16How about in the kitchen?
00:18:18Keep it cool.
00:18:20Come on in.
00:18:22All right, you kids behave.
00:18:24Dad's getting an interview today.
00:18:26Come on in.
00:18:30Go ahead and tell me your name.
00:18:32Yeah, my name is Daniel Edgar Dixon.
00:18:35But nobody calls me that.
00:18:37They call me Muff.
00:18:39Muff?
00:18:41M-U-F-F.
00:18:43I'm Barron's dad.
00:18:45Barron was very upset
00:18:47when he found out that his father
00:18:49had been unfaithful to me.
00:18:51He had very little to do
00:18:53with his father after that.
00:18:55Well, I'm sure you've been told
00:18:57about Barron's imagination.
00:18:59The boy gets a thought in his mind.
00:19:01There's no changing it.
00:19:03I was up in Kingman, Arizona,
00:19:05in a hotel...
00:19:07hotel room on a road trip.
00:19:09Barron surprised me one day
00:19:11by knocking on the door.
00:19:13I let him in, and just as he came in,
00:19:15a lady come walking out of the shower.
00:19:18She's, uh...
00:19:20She left a couple rooms down.
00:19:22The shower wasn't working,
00:19:24so I said,
00:19:26come on and take a shower here.
00:19:28Well, Barron took one look at her
00:19:30and one look at me,
00:19:32and I don't know what he was thinking.
00:19:35Oh.
00:19:37Barron couldn't believe
00:19:39his father lied to him like that.
00:19:41And he asked me,
00:19:43what else had his father
00:19:45been lying to him about?
00:19:47Yeah, I remember
00:19:49I used to tell Barron stories
00:19:51about how Japanese cars are made,
00:19:53and who the moon is made of,
00:19:55and who lives on a big house
00:19:57on the hill,
00:19:59and that boy was never
00:20:01sure of the questions.
00:20:03He wanted to know about
00:20:05everything and everybody.
00:20:07He was a smart kid.
00:20:09I never had to explain
00:20:11things to him more than once,
00:20:13and many things he seemed
00:20:15to already know.
00:20:17Yeah, I loved Barron a lot.
00:20:19He was my boy.
00:20:21We did quite a bit together.
00:20:23I wish we could have done more,
00:20:25but I think he was a mama's boy.
00:20:33He was a big fuckin' liar.
00:20:35Always making shit up.
00:20:37Always lying.
00:20:39It didn't even matter.
00:20:41He brought in these paintings.
00:20:43I remember every time he had the paintings,
00:20:45he told me,
00:20:47those paintings,
00:20:49I'm doing the work,
00:20:51I'm going to quit.
00:20:53What did my superior say?
00:20:55He's going to quit and paint
00:20:57these paintings of spaceships
00:20:59because he has this art dealer
00:21:01gallery guy that's going to sell
00:21:03these paintings of spaceships
00:21:05of these fuckin' pictures that he did.
00:21:07They were fuckin' stupid.
00:21:09It looked like a fuckin' retard did them.
00:21:11Hello, I'm Richard Stoneman.
00:21:13I'm Barron Dixon's art dealer.
00:21:15Barron came into my gallery
00:21:17in 1992.
00:21:19He had six paintings.
00:21:21They were very simple,
00:21:23very childlike paintings
00:21:25of spaceships.
00:21:27They were done in very bright colors,
00:21:29very playful.
00:21:31These three were on loan from clients.
00:21:33As you can see,
00:21:35they're very fun, playful paintings.
00:21:37Childlike, very childlike.
00:21:39One might even say
00:21:41disturbingly childlike.
00:21:47¶¶ ¶¶
00:22:05Hi, I'm Erastus Sinevi.
00:22:07This is my home.
00:22:09As you see, I'm a collector of modern art.

00:22:23This piece is TIA,
00:22:25that's Trans Interdimensional
00:22:27Airwave Service.
00:22:29They started out
00:22:31as Trans International Airlines,
00:22:33but through the technology
00:22:35managed to come out
00:22:37with this wonderful
00:22:39laser-type lamp.
00:22:41It actually goes, it's interdimensional.
00:22:43It travels.
00:22:45You see, you charge it up like that,
00:22:47and when you get enough of a charge,
00:22:49it takes off.
00:22:51This is my spaceship to honor
00:22:53that piece.
00:22:55It's called We Come in Peace.
00:22:57And of course, when the aliens do come,
00:22:59you just know they're not going to come in peace.
00:23:01They're going to come loaded with guns and weapons,
00:23:03and they're going to annihilate us all.
00:23:05But such is life.
00:23:07I liked the paintings,
00:23:09and I felt good about them.
00:23:11I told him I would show his paintings
00:23:13in my gallery.
00:23:15¶¶ ¶¶
00:23:19The gallery,
00:23:21Richard Stoneman of the
00:23:23Richard Stoneman Gallery,
00:23:25he was selling me a line of crap
00:23:27when he sold me the piece.
00:23:29I saw it. I fell in love with it.
00:23:31It's so modern.
00:23:33It's like a throwback
00:23:35to the modern art of the 60s
00:23:37when all its
00:23:39super serious hoity-toity-ness,
00:23:41you know?
00:23:43I had to have it. It was hilarious.
00:23:45My friends all love it.
00:23:47You know, I have parties,
00:23:49and people come, and they gather around the painting,
00:23:51and they ignore me.
00:23:53They ignored everything else in the room,
00:23:55and believe me, I have some lovely things here.
00:23:57People are just drawn to this painting.
00:23:59It's magical.
00:24:01I feel blessed to have had
00:24:03the wisdom to acquire it.
00:24:05That's what primarily it does for me.
00:24:07It moves me.
00:24:09It makes me giggle.
00:24:11I sit. I admire it.
00:24:13The little puppy flying up to his mommy or daddy
00:24:15or whatever the creature is up there,
00:24:17it's hard to tell.
00:24:19I guess it's a sexless being.

00:24:25I did not see
00:24:27Baron for
00:24:29about a year
00:24:31after he brought in
00:24:33the spaceship paintings.
00:24:35When he did come back,
00:24:37he brought in these rather
00:24:39large paintings
00:24:41that were so disturbing
00:24:43and violent that I was
00:24:45tempted to call the police.
00:24:47They were the most gruesome
00:24:49paintings I had ever seen.

00:25:23Baron gave me this painting
00:25:25because a lot of them
00:25:27determined this is my
00:25:32true self, but
00:25:35I like this one
00:25:37the best because
00:25:39uh,
00:25:41I don't, I don't know.
00:25:43I just like to look at it
00:25:44and think about
00:25:45where I am in life
00:25:47and how big the world is
00:25:49and how big the galaxy is
00:25:51and how there's so
00:25:53many different kinds of people
00:25:55See, we only know a little bit about the planets that surround us, but there's millions of
00:26:02planets, and there's millions of stars, and I just like to look at it and think about
00:26:13what people on other planets might be like.
00:26:22I like things because they speak to me.
00:26:25They tug on my heart or something, and I just have to have them.
00:26:30That's how I acquired that lovely painting over there.
00:26:33Just had to have it.
00:26:34It was hilarious.
00:26:36This little fella in a bubble, and this dog flying up to him.
00:26:40I mean, that's great.
00:26:41You would expect a dog to have a bubble on his head, and he's not, and that means he's
00:26:44truly an alien dog.
00:26:46I kind of have an alien dog myself, so I know about that.
00:26:53Baron requires a great deal of attention, and one way people get attention is by running
00:26:57away or staging their disappearance.
00:27:02Baron was able to disappear and validate his entire life and get the attention that he
00:27:09needs.
00:27:11He got his name in the paper, his picture in the news, a documentary.
00:27:17This is the journey.
00:27:19This one over here is the adventure, and this last one is the day the aliens came and took
00:27:27me to another planet.
00:27:41Baron was pretty upset when he couldn't make a living as an artist.
00:27:55He didn't like work.
00:27:57It was too much like school.
00:28:00People kept picking on him.
00:28:20This is Baron's dog.
00:28:23Her name is Bobo.
00:28:25Baron got her when he was, oh, 28, 29, maybe 30.
00:28:33She was a little tiny thing, no bigger than a shoe.
00:28:50Baron used to get down and hug her, and he'd say, you're the only friend I've got, aren't
00:28:56you, Bobo?
00:28:57And she'd lick his face.
00:28:58Remember that fish we brought?
00:28:59That big fish was this big.
00:29:00It was a big sea bass.
00:29:01It was pretty big.
00:29:02It was like that.
00:29:03I used to take that fish, and I'd just take that fish and slap him right on top of the
00:29:04head, man.
00:29:05He didn't care.
00:29:06He didn't care.
00:29:07He had juices in his hair and everything.
00:29:08He didn't care.
00:29:09He didn't care.
00:29:10He didn't care.
00:29:11He didn't care.
00:29:12He didn't care.
00:29:13He didn't care.
00:29:14He didn't care.
00:29:15He didn't care.
00:29:16He didn't care.
00:29:17He didn't care.
00:29:18He didn't care.
00:29:19He didn't care.
00:29:21Bobo gets up with me in the morning, and then I give her breakfast, and then let her
00:29:28out.
00:29:29And she goes out to the end of the driveway and lays there all day looking up at the sky.
00:29:35It's as though she's waiting for Baron to come back home.
00:29:50What I don't get is that dog of his.
00:30:19Every day it sits at the end of the driveway, stares up at the sky.
00:30:24All day long.
00:30:25Every day.
00:30:26And it does it every day.
00:30:28Weird.
00:30:30That is creepy.
00:30:48Tell me your name and your relationship to Baron.
00:30:52My name is Kathy Bell.
00:30:54You know, people tease me a lot about my name.
00:30:58Okay.
00:30:59What relationship?
00:31:00Oh, yeah.
00:31:01My name is Kathy Bell, and I'm Baron Dixon's ex-girlfriend.
00:31:04Oh, okay.
00:31:05How did the two of you meet?
00:31:07We met at a Dead show when I was 21.
00:31:09No, I was 22.
00:31:11At a Grateful Dead concert we met when I was 22.
00:31:14And how old was Baron?
00:31:15He was 38.
00:31:16Oh, wow.
00:31:17Yeah.
00:31:18Well, my parents didn't like that a lot either, but, you know, he was a lot of fun, and he'd
00:31:23tell me these weird stories, but it was a blast.
00:31:26He'd tell me stories about other planets and people on the other planets, and I don't know,
00:31:32I would just totally get sucked up into his stories about secret societies and how there
00:31:39is a secret society that's going to be shipping people from this planet to another planet,
00:31:45a new planet that they have.
00:31:46And it's a better planet.
00:31:47It's cleaner.
00:31:48There's no pollution.
00:31:51It's a better planet.
00:31:53And Baron said that he was going to be in charge of a group of workers at the new planet,
00:31:59and that they were going to be building this thing that's going to be connected to the
00:32:03Washington Monument and some church in Rome or something.
00:32:06I don't know.
00:32:07I mean, I would believe it, but I don't know if I really believed it or if it was just
00:32:12fun believing it, but it was, I don't know.
00:32:15He was a blast.
00:32:16It was like a game.
00:32:18It was fun.
00:32:19Oh, and then we had this great spaceship that he made in his backyard, and he made it out
00:32:24of cardboard and one-by-twos, and we'd mess around in that all night long and camp, look
00:32:31at the stars, and it was just like a clubhouse, and we'd sit around eating Twinkies and drinking
00:32:37wine coolers all night.
00:32:38It was great.
00:32:39It was just like a clubhouse.
00:32:45This is the spaceship Kathy and Baron built.
00:32:52He used to do a lot of them as a kid, out of refrigerator boxes.
00:32:58I'll open that for you.
00:33:06You can feel free to look inside.
00:33:08Let me get the lights.
00:33:09I'm going to get the lights, and then I'm going to open it, and then I'm going to open
00:33:10it, and then I'm going to open it, and then I'm going to open it, and then I'm going to

00:38:30He called me a lot after we broke up.
00:38:44He didn't want to break up, but it was too hard to go out with him.
00:38:49He did not know when to stop.
00:38:51He didn't know how to act in public.
00:38:54He would talk about UFOs and aliens to my parents.
00:38:59I didn't even like him to begin with, so you can imagine.
00:39:03And my sister hated him.
00:39:05She did not like him at all.
00:39:07Barron was so creepy.
00:39:10I mean, he was a full-grown guy and he lived with his mother.
00:39:14I don't know what my sister saw in him.
00:39:16He was big and hairy and ugly, and he believed in aliens.
00:39:22He was just stupid.
00:39:24Barron was a lot of fun.
00:39:26We liked nature, and we'd go camping.
00:39:30We had these great things called pods, and we'd camp out in them at night.
00:39:34No, pods.
00:39:35P-O-D-S.
00:39:36Pods.
00:39:37There were these big tents that Barron made.
00:39:40They were so great.
00:39:41He made them out of parachutes.
00:39:43We'd camp in them at night and look at the stars and the constellations.
00:39:48He knew everything about the stars and the constellations.
00:39:50It was amazing.
00:39:51He knew everything.
00:39:52I don't know.
00:39:53We'd dream.
00:39:54We'd dream about other planets and what our dream planet would be like.
00:40:01We wished that there was a place where everybody was nice and everyone was in love and everyone
00:40:08had a mom and a dad.
00:40:11I don't know.
00:40:13We'd just dream.
00:40:22Well, I am Heather Westfall, and Kathy used to be one of my best friends.
00:40:32Well, she began dressing really bad.
00:40:37She started dressing like a hippie.
00:40:40Then she's going to Grateful Dead concerts, and the next thing you know, she is totally
00:40:44in love with Barron.
00:40:48Tell me about the first time you met Barron.
00:40:53I think the first time I met Barron was at my New Year's Eve party.
00:40:57Kathy had invited him.
00:40:58He comes strolling in, and he's wearing this really tacky sweater that was far too tight
00:41:05for him.
00:41:06He has on these tight, pleated dress slacks, and he absolutely creeped everyone out because
00:41:13he's standing in the corner, and he's not blinking his eyes.
00:41:18He's just staring at everyone like this.
00:41:23I don't know.
00:41:24It was absolutely creepy.
00:41:27He'd always been telling me about this guy shooting off rockets and such.
00:41:32I went out to Superstition Mountains.
00:41:34I remember this.
00:41:36The very first time I saw Barron, he was dressed like some kind of futuristic astronaut.
00:41:42He had some voice changer on his suit.
00:41:45I am a robot.
00:41:47I am a robot.
00:41:49I make Japanese cars.
00:41:52Like that.
00:41:53It was funny.
00:41:55He gave me this camera, and he goes, you know, take a picture of this, and take a picture
00:42:00of that, and whatever.
00:42:02He went and made a whole movie out of it.
00:42:06He called it The Launch.
00:42:07The Super Launch.
00:42:08The Super Launch.
00:42:09The Super Launch.
00:42:10The Super Launch.
00:42:17The Super Launch.
00:43:17The Super Launch.
00:43:36The Super Launch.
00:44:02I know he really liked my sister.
00:44:21I mean, you could tell he was totally in love with her, but I don't know.
00:44:25He was just weird.
00:44:27Well, none of my friends liked him.
00:44:30So it was mostly just Barron and I.
00:44:33But, sometimes we'd hang out with Randy.
00:44:37We won't use everything.
00:44:39We'll just spill some of the stuff.
00:44:41We just keep it running.
00:44:43Yeah, but...
00:44:45It's illegal.
00:44:47It's a smoke...
00:44:48Whoa!
00:44:49It's a smoke bomb.
00:44:50Jeez!
00:44:51Come on.
00:44:53There we are.
00:44:59Hey, where are we going, guys?
00:45:01I thought we were going to do some doughnuts.
00:45:05Doughnuts!
00:45:06Doughnuts!
00:45:07Doughnuts!
00:45:08Doughnuts!
00:45:09Doughnuts!
00:45:10Doughnuts!
00:45:38Spartains!
00:45:41Spartains!
00:46:03It's just something we do for fun.
00:46:06I want that bitch out!
00:46:08Go! Go, baby, go!
00:46:11Hurry her up, baby!
00:46:13That's a boy! That's a boy!
00:46:22Well, the night that he disappeared, he called me.
00:46:25He did call me.
00:46:27He told me that he was going to go to the new planet
00:46:31that he was talking about, and...
00:46:36He said that he wasn't coming back.
00:46:43I could hear that he was scared.
00:46:46He was really scared.
00:46:48I'm afraid that he's in hiding somewhere, stalking my sister.
00:46:53And one night, he's going to come out of hiding
00:46:55and do something awful to her.
00:46:57I mean, he used to call me all the time.
00:47:01He doesn't call me anymore at all.
00:47:03He doesn't even... I don't know. Where is he?
00:47:07I mean, I'm not saying he used to stalk me or anything,
00:47:10but I would see him everywhere I went, every single day.
00:47:16I talked to him on the phone every day.
00:47:19And now he's nowhere.
00:47:21I was right here.
00:47:23I came out, saw Baron across the street,
00:47:26donut shop, bag of donuts in his hand.
00:47:29And I yelled out, Hey, Baron!
00:47:31You can't be in outer space, you old son of a bitch!
00:47:38You can't be in outer space
00:47:40and be over there eating donuts at the same time.
00:47:43I don't care who you are.
00:47:47Emmett James?
00:47:49He wouldn't know his head from a hole in the ground.
00:47:53My name is Emmett James.
00:47:56I've known Baron ever since he was a little grasshopper.
00:48:00I knew Baron when he was wearing diapers,
00:48:03like a little baby.
00:48:06Baron had a hard time making friends.
00:48:10I think the only friend he ever had was
00:48:13what he had in his imagination.
00:48:18Baron was a troublemaker ever since he was little.
00:48:23Young whippersnapper, his mind was gone.
00:48:26You know, all the people that knew Baron,
00:48:29they thought he was crazy.
00:48:31They just didn't know him.
00:48:40My name is Dean McDermott.
00:48:43I'm the president and chairperson of the IRO.
00:48:48That's the UFO Information Retrieval Organization.
00:48:52The IRO is a non-profit organization
00:48:55that is involved in fundraising as well as lobbying
00:48:59in order to try and establish a place
00:49:02where alien forces can land their spacecrafts
00:49:06without any fear of danger.
00:49:10What we have here is
00:49:14the plan that I've come up with
00:49:18to establish a space landing area in Scottsdale, Arizona.
00:49:24This is actually like a large parking lot,
00:49:28but it has lights for landing at night.
00:49:32It also will have some bleachers
00:49:34and a modest dwelling
00:49:37wherein we will have restrooms, telephones,
00:49:40and of course snack machines.
00:49:42Sort of like a highway rest area.
00:49:47Let me turn this on and give you the effect.
00:49:55Hmm.
00:49:57Hold on just one second.
00:50:03Is it on yet?
00:50:05Uh, no.
00:50:07Hmm.
00:50:09Okay, hold on just one more second.
00:50:13Let me try this over here.
00:50:15Is it on yet?
00:50:17Uh, no.
00:50:18How about now?
00:50:19Now.
00:50:20Is it on yet?
00:50:21Uh, nope.
00:50:22Hmm.
00:50:24Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's on.
00:50:26Oh, good.
00:50:28Ah, there.
00:50:30As you can see, the lights.
00:50:32Okay, um,
00:50:35anyway, this area is set up also,
00:50:39as you can see, with a large antenna.
00:50:43And this can send out a radio signal,
00:50:45both in Morse code and in English,
00:50:47which says,
00:50:48Welcome to our planet.
00:50:50Please stop and introduce yourself.
00:50:53My name is Dean McDermott.
00:50:55This place is safe for landing.
00:50:58And this message, of course, repeats endlessly.
00:51:06Do you feel that Baron was taken away by aliens?
00:51:10No, I do not.
00:51:12Uh, why don't you believe that?
00:51:15Because they, they being any aliens,
00:51:18like to work with humans who are cooperative and peaceful.
00:51:21And, uh, Baron, Baron was just stubborn and rude.
00:51:43Tell us your name and what it is you do.
00:51:48My name is Nate Lund.
00:51:50I maintain a few websites.
00:51:52NateLund.com is a site for my own artwork.
00:51:56Uh, RagnarokStudio.com is, uh,
00:52:01public 3D artwork, tutorials, et cetera.
00:52:05And then BaronDixon.com.
00:52:07Uh, tell us about the Baron Dixon website.
00:52:10Um, it's a site all about my cousin, Baron,
00:52:14who disappeared somewhere.
00:52:16Do you think he was taken to another planet?
00:52:19No, no.
00:52:21I knew you were going to ask that, but no.
00:52:24There's about 20 people or so that check into the message boards
00:52:27pretty much every day, not twice a day.
00:52:30Uh, they post messages about where they think he might be.
00:52:33They talk about him.
00:52:34Take it way too seriously.
00:52:40Do you believe in aliens?
00:52:43I know there's aliens.
00:52:44They took Baron.
00:52:47Another thing I do with the website is, well,
00:52:50people can report sightings of Baron, and, uh,
00:52:55most of the sightings are along Interstate 25 and 40,
00:52:59and then there's a few in Wynnum, Minnesota,
00:53:02and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
00:53:05Uh, we got relatives in both places.
00:53:10Uh, most of the people I come in contact with think he was abducted,
00:53:14and they're all a little bit like him.
00:53:18Uh, so you believe that you're going to go to the new planet?
00:53:24Why else would I be doing all this?
00:53:28What else do you do with the website?
00:53:30Um, it's the only one I make money with,
00:53:33and I sell T-shirts to help keep it going.
00:53:36This one here says,
00:53:38Where in the Galaxy is Baron Dixon?
00:53:40Even though I don't believe he's out there,
00:53:43everybody else does, and this is what sells,
00:53:45so it keeps people coming.
00:53:47The photo I got is from a birthday party for my brother.
00:53:53I also sell individual photos.
00:53:58Ah, now here's one guy claiming that he knows Baron Dixon's
00:54:03on the third moon of Pluton.
00:54:09Right.
00:54:19Did you enjoy being around Baron?
00:54:21No, no.
00:54:23Why not?
00:54:24He was creepy, actually.
00:54:27What was creepy about him?
00:54:29Well, he always had this thing where he'd want me
00:54:31to give him a piggyback ride.
00:54:33It was like a big hello.
00:54:35I don't know, I don't like that.
00:54:39How did I meet Baron?
00:54:41Well, when I joined the engineering faculty here,
00:54:45and that was a while ago now,
00:54:47I was a model rocket fanatic.
00:54:50I loved the whole process of designing rockets,
00:54:54gluing them together late at night,
00:54:57and then the next morning going out on the range,
00:55:01slamming home a big engine, and whoosh, bang.
00:55:06I loved that.
00:55:08So I wanted to turn other people on to it,
00:55:11and I volunteered to teach a class at the Y,
00:55:14and that's where I met a young Baron.
00:55:18He impressed me from the start.
00:55:21He was a smart kid, curious kid.
00:55:23We learned a lot together.
00:55:26We designed some big rockets,
00:55:29and we shot them off.
00:55:31It was great fun.
00:55:33Do you believe that aliens may have taken him
00:55:36to another planet then?
00:55:39Well, aliens, I mean, to believe that,
00:55:41you've got to believe in aliens,
00:55:43and I'm a scientist.
00:55:44I don't believe in aliens.
00:55:46I don't believe that there are little green
00:55:51or gray or purple fellows swooping around
00:55:55in a spacecraft grabbing people,
00:55:58taking them up for medical experiments
00:56:01or for travel to other planets or whatever.
00:56:05What hard evidence is there of that?
00:56:07No, I don't. I don't believe that.
00:56:09Then do you believe that he may have
00:56:11staged his disappearance then?
00:56:14Well, like I said, I don't believe in aliens,
00:56:18but there are facts,
00:56:21a couple of facts about his disappearance
00:56:23that I've thought a lot about
00:56:25and that trouble me.
00:56:28First, his dog.
00:56:31He loved his dog, and he loved his dog.
00:56:34I mean, he really loved his dog.
00:56:37It just didn't seem to me to be like him
00:56:40just to abandon his dog.
00:56:42I mean, if he wanted to stage his disappearance
00:56:44and then to start a new life,
00:56:47why didn't he just stage the abduction of his dog?
00:56:50I mean, aliens are supposed to swoop down
00:56:54and abduct cattle, right?
00:56:57So why not a dog?
00:56:59I mean, it would have seemed credible.
00:57:02The second thing is his car.
00:57:05His car was found in the middle of nowhere,
00:57:0930 miles from the nearest bus stop.
00:57:12If he staged his abduction,
00:57:14he would have given himself an awful long walk.
00:57:17You know, why wouldn't he have just
00:57:20staged an abduction from a vacant lot
00:57:23or from behind a restaurant?
00:57:26It would have been far more convenient.
00:57:29So there are a couple of facts that trouble me
00:57:32about his disappearance.
00:57:34They seem strange to me, but, you know,
00:57:37I'm not saying he was abducted by aliens.
00:57:40They just bother me.
00:57:42Do you think that Randy and Ed
00:57:45may have had something to do with his disappearance
00:57:47or helped him with his disappearance?
00:57:49Randy and Ed. Randy and Ed.
00:57:52They're such burnouts.
00:57:53I mean, I doubt that those guys
00:57:55could have concocted a story and a scheme
00:57:58that was coherent enough to fool the police.
00:58:01I mean, they would have broken down.
00:58:03They would have got confused under interrogation.
00:58:05I mean, those guys, I mean,
00:58:07between their interest in explosives
00:58:10and recreational chemicals,
00:58:12I mean, they've burned so many brain cells,
00:58:14I doubt they could get it together
00:58:16to help out Barrett.
00:58:19Well, we got it all set here now.
00:58:24No, actually, it's...
00:58:26Two bean burritos.
00:58:28Two fish burritos.
00:58:31And a pint of beans.
00:58:32And a pint of beans.
00:58:34That's all we need.
00:58:37That's good.
00:58:39Excellent, amigo.
00:58:52This is Barron's apartment.
00:59:00My sister has several rentals in the area,
00:59:02so she's letting me keep the apartment
00:59:05so that when he...
00:59:08If he comes back,
00:59:10he'll have his own stuff
00:59:12and his own place.
00:59:15I kept everything just the way it was.
00:59:25Barron was a big fan
00:59:27of Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter.
00:59:29He felt that they were about to announce
00:59:31alien contact.
00:59:33But he kept records,
00:59:36and Ronald Reagan made
00:59:38five separate speeches
00:59:40referring to aliens.
00:59:42Jimmy Carter made three.
00:59:47I think Barron felt that
00:59:49if they made reference
00:59:51to alien contact,
00:59:53people would accept him more
00:59:56and maybe not be so mean to him.
01:00:04Do you mind if we take a look around the place?
01:00:07Would that be all right?
01:00:09No, I don't mind. Not at all.
01:00:12You go right ahead.
01:00:14It makes me a little sad being in here.
01:00:17If you don't mind, I'm going outside.
01:00:20Just take your time.
01:00:22Oh, thank you.
01:00:33Oh, thank you.

01:03:18Baron Dixon's apartment was searched.
01:03:21Smoking paraphernalia was found
01:03:23that was coated with a marijuana residue.
01:03:26A small amount of marijuana was also found.
01:03:28Um, there is a concern.
01:03:31A great deal of information regarding serial killers was found in Barron's apartment.
01:03:37I'm afraid that he's going to kidnap my sister and kill her.
01:03:40He could do it.
01:03:41He's a psycho.
01:03:44We were also made aware that Mr. Dixon was making frequent contact with an ex-girlfriend.
01:03:50We were also told that he had said, before his disappearance, that he would be coming
01:03:55back to take his girlfriend with him.
01:03:58This department takes threats from ex-boyfriends very seriously, especially those that collect
01:04:04information on serial killers.
01:04:07Barron was not a violent person.
01:04:11I mean, I know all the police are freaked out because of all the serial killer books
01:04:15that he has, but he has all kinds of books.
01:04:17He has books on Buddhism and gardening, and he has the Bible, and he has medicinal herb
01:04:23books, and he has books on fishing and healing.
01:04:25I mean, why didn't they call him a great fisherman or a healer or something?
01:04:30I remember one time when Barron beat up his dad, and his dad had to go to the hospital
01:04:35because Barron broke both his dad's feet.
01:04:40Well, Randy claims that Barron broke both your feet.
01:04:46Broke my feet?
01:04:47No.
01:04:48I tripped, twisted my ankle or something, tripping over a dead dog or a toy or something.
01:04:55My name is Cynthia Lynn Bell.
01:04:58My daughter dated Barron Dixon.
01:05:01I didn't like Barron from the first moment that I met him, and my distrust of him only
01:05:07served to fuel Kathy's interest.
01:05:11She dated him just to rebel against me.
01:05:15My mom hated Barron more than I did.
01:05:17I'm not saying something, because I really hated him.
01:05:21He went on and on about aliens and spaceships.
01:05:27He even went on to intimate to me that he had been chosen to help populate another world,
01:05:35to manage some workers or something.
01:05:39He was very scary.
01:05:40He frightened me.
01:05:42My mom used to ask me if Barron ever hit me.
01:05:45Barron would never hit me.
01:05:47He was always the hero.
01:05:50He would have protected me at all costs.
01:05:52He would have saved me no matter what.
01:05:56Or organize workers to move everybody to another planet.
01:06:02This is a grown man, and he's dating my daughter.
01:06:08Barron surprised me one day.
01:06:11He just almost ran up to me.
01:06:13He was very excited that he wanted to show me something, so he took out his wallet and
01:06:19he slipped out a picture.
01:06:21The picture was of a lovely, really beautiful young woman.
01:06:25He told me it was his girlfriend.
01:06:27We talked a little bit, and he seemed very excited and very in love.
01:06:35The whole incident kind of took me aback, because I hadn't seen Barron with a girl really
01:06:40ever before.
01:06:41I think this girl was perhaps his first love.
01:06:47Maybe he was in love for the first time in his life.
01:07:47He's a stalker.
01:08:08He's stalking my daughter.
01:08:11He was stalking her before the alleged abduction, and he's stalking her now, I'm sure of it.
01:08:18Well, he just looked like a complete psychopath.
01:08:20I mean, all of my friends were afraid of him.
01:08:22Even the guys.
01:08:23It was nice when Barron got his own apartment, because we could finally be together, I mean
01:08:32really together.
01:08:33It was nice to be secretive, being away from everybody and all their opinions, and it was
01:08:41just really nice.
01:09:01On December 7th, 1997, a missing persons report was filed on Miss Catherine Bell.
01:09:11The last person to have seen Miss Bell was her sister, a Miss Kristen Bell.
01:09:18I saw my sister drive off.
01:09:20She was by herself.
01:09:21She was perfectly happy, probably the happiest I'd ever seen her.
01:09:26She told me that she loved me, that she was going to miss me, and then she drove off,
01:09:30and she never came back.
01:09:33So you believe that she's with Barron, and she's alive and well?
01:09:38Yes, I do.
01:09:40When interviewed, Kristen said that her sister seemed to be in very good spirits, and that
01:09:45she spoke to her for several minutes.
01:09:49Catherine then told her sister she was going to another planet to live with her boyfriend,
01:09:54Mr. Barron Dixon.
01:09:58Miss Bell then got into her own vehicle, by herself, and drove away under her own free
01:10:12will.
01:10:20How do you account for Kristen's sudden change of mind, and now believing that her sister
01:10:28is with Barron, and that she's fine?
01:10:32She's a little kid.
01:10:33She'll believe anything.
01:10:37Mr. Sloan and Mr. Tackett were questioned that evening, and later released.
01:10:45What happened to you guys once Kathy disappeared?
01:10:48Well, I'll give you three fucking guesses.
01:10:52Here come the cops.
01:10:53First thing they did was ride a star ass up.
01:10:56Crawling all over.
01:10:57As if we know what happened.
01:10:58We told them.
01:10:59Barron's in space.
01:11:02What do you want from us?
01:11:04So what do you believe happened to your friend, Kathy Bell?
01:11:10Oh, Barron probably kidnapped her, and God knows what he did with her after that.
01:11:18He's a disgusting pervert.
01:11:22Well, see the good thing is, is if they came back for Kathy, like Barron said, then they
01:11:31should be coming back for us.
01:11:33They just have to come back, I guess, get people one at a time.
01:11:38That's what I figured.
01:11:41I can't wait.
01:11:42If they can't get here soon enough, I'll leave all this shit behind.
01:11:47Some sort of picnic.
01:11:49Barron's involvement with Randy and Ed concerned me.
01:11:53He brought them over to the house a few times, and I could see those boys were into the wrong
01:12:00kinds of things.
01:12:01As soon as they saw this lab equipment around here, well, their eyes lit up, and they were
01:12:07asking me, well, how can we make this explosive, or that explosive, and I was just saying,
01:12:13you know, no, no, we don't want to get into that.
01:12:17Doesn't look good for us.
01:12:20They're just going to believe what they want to believe, and there's not much we can do.
01:12:25Probably try to pin it on us.
01:12:27Why not?
01:12:28Someone's got to take the fall.
01:12:31Yeah, they seemed morbidly interested in that kind of thing, and then when I said, no, no,
01:12:37there would be no creation of explosives in my house, they wanted to cook up some drugs,
01:12:42and that evening, too, they wanted to cook up some acid speed, and I just said, hey,
01:12:50no, don't talk about this.
01:12:53They'll be coming back for us.
01:12:55They can't get here soon enough for me.
01:12:57I'm right up to here with this bullshit.
01:12:59I'd leave all this behind in a second.
01:13:03Move on with my life.
01:13:07Every time they came over, they seemed excited.
01:13:10They mean like children, and wanted me to come out to their souped-up car and look in the trunk
01:13:15and they'd have more guns, and some types I thought were probably illegal,
01:13:20automatic weapons, ammunition, and so on.
01:13:23So I was concerned and uncomfortable about his association with these two.
01:13:29It just seemed like they were into bad stuff.
01:13:41♪♪
01:13:50♪♪
01:14:00♪♪
01:14:10♪♪
01:14:21Do you think you'll ever see Kathy again?
01:14:27No.
01:14:30No one listens to us. No one listens to me.
01:14:33Fuckers.
01:14:34I don't give a shit.
01:14:35I'd sooner take my chances with the aliens.
01:14:37I hope the aliens come back before the cops come back, though.
01:14:39That's what I mean. I'd rather be with the fucking aliens.
01:14:41My whole life's been in the shit van for months now.
01:14:48And then they still come back at us.
01:14:51I'll tell you what, it don't look good for me and Randy here.
01:14:54This is probably the end for me and Ed.
01:14:59My sister came home and told me she was going away,
01:15:02that two people had come up to her in the parking lot
01:15:04and asked if she wanted to go to the new planet to live with Baron.
01:15:08And of course she said yes.
01:15:10She was incredibly happy.
01:15:13She came home, gave me a hug, gave me this letter,
01:15:17and then she drove off.
01:15:20I'll read the letter.
01:15:24Dear Mom and Sis,
01:15:26I don't know how to say this so that you'll believe me,
01:15:28so I'll just be blunt.
01:15:30I'm going to go to another planet to live with Baron.
01:15:33We're going to live in a community with other people from Earth.
01:15:37The new planet is very clean and is unexplored.
01:15:40There are no businesses and no government and no money.
01:15:44Everyone is working together to build big gardens
01:15:46with sculptures, murals, and paintings.
01:15:49This sounds crazy, and I know it sounds impossible,
01:15:51but I want you to believe me.
01:15:53The new planet is beautiful.
01:15:55I love you guys.
01:15:57I'll miss you.
01:15:59Love, Kathy.
01:16:03P.S. Sis, you're young and you're smart.
01:16:07Don't listen to what they tell you.
01:16:10Believe in yourself.
01:16:12Believe in a new planet.
01:16:16Believe.
01:16:47Where's Baron?
