00:00What are brain diseases?
00:04Brain diseases are the first cause of disability and the second cause of death after cardiovascular diseases.
00:11This is certainly an alarming fact, especially after COVID-19,
00:15because mental disorders have increased, especially in young people.
00:19And so we have to get involved, especially by listening.
00:23There is a beautiful project in which I was involved through the guys who told me about it,
00:29and it's called Mi vedete. This project directly listens to the guys
00:33and tries to involve them directly in school activities.
00:38What has emerged is that it is important to have both the psychologist's support in schools,
00:43which the higher institutions are already doing, through the Ministry of Education and Research,
00:49but it is also important to have an educator who directly involves them and listens to them daily.
00:55This is to go directly to stop the mental disorder before mental disorders occur,
01:01and above all you have to go to stop the discomfort, the discomfort that these guys manifest
01:07through actions that can be actions of bullying, actions when they confirm that they are bored,
01:14rather than even the same food disorders are a manifestation of youthful discomfort.
01:19There are two regions in particular, the Lombardy region and the Emilia-Romagna region,
01:23which have already made a prevention plan for 2021-2025.
01:26We are the first country in Italy to have a department that deals directly
01:31with children and adolescents' neuropsychiatric problems.
01:35But unfortunately, on the territory there are situations in which these listening centers do not work.
01:40Even today, on my local newspaper, there is a letter from parents and health professionals
01:46accusing the municipality that the center does not work,
01:50and the parents are thrown from one side to the other of the province.
01:53Therefore, as an institution, there must be commitment to the listening of young people,
01:57but also the willingness to make these listening centers available in schools,
02:02but above all also on the territory, to follow them directly from diagnosis to treatment
02:07and above all to prevent mental disorder.
02:10It is important to have a psychologist in schools, but also a sort of third party,
02:15an educator, who tries directly to get involved in the activities
02:20and tries to capture the essence of the student himself,
02:23because very often the student does not turn to friends for the stigma,
02:27he does not turn to parents, he does not turn to relatives,
02:30so as not to be judged.
02:32Therefore, he has confidence in people who can be there close to him
02:35to trust those who are in his state of mind,
02:38to trust those who are in the various situations
02:41that he lives on a daily basis, with friends, with parents, in the family.
02:46There are particular situations that they are not able to externalize.
02:49Very often trusting a third person helps.
02:52This is the fundamental role that, in my opinion, the educator in schools could have
02:56and the part of civic education could be further enhanced
03:00as a moment of listening, as a moment of participation within groups
03:05to create that fundamental relational education that is missing in our society.
