00:00Joining us now in the grab bag, Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzales, he's brought to you by
00:06Shaw's and Star Market, perfecting the art of fresh and by drains by James, Eastern Mass'
00:09top provider of drain and sewer cleaning and repair.
00:13Christian Gonzales, welcome to the grab bag.
00:15What's going on, how are you?
00:18Well, we're excited.
00:20Yesterday, we heard Gerard Mayo talk about the team being a soft team.
00:25He's clarified that today and said you guys are playing soft.
00:28Do you agree with Gerard Mayo that you're either a team that's playing soft or are a
00:31soft football team?
00:33Yeah, I mean, you know, he came out and said what he wanted to say, you know, and it's
00:42nothing that he wouldn't tell us.
00:44I mean, yesterday, we went out there and we, you know, we didn't play up to our standard
00:49of Patriot football that we always talk about.
00:52So he went out there and said that.
00:55Do you feel, just speaking for the defense, do you guys feel like you're playing as a
00:59team or are you concerned that certain players are kind of playing for themselves at this
01:03point?
01:04No, I don't think nobody's playing for themselves, you know, we come in every day and go to work
01:13with each other.
01:14I mean, we just got to go out there and play a complete game.
01:19How do you reverse course?
01:20I know you're more in the passing game, the run game, but you do have to get into run
01:24force at times.
01:26How do you stop the run?
01:27Like, I'm sure it sounds like a stupid question from the outside looking in.
01:29I know you guys are going to try your hardest to get that done.
01:31But it's really been the last three weeks, maybe even last five weeks where you guys
01:34have struggled against it, talked about stopping it, still don't stop it.
01:38How do you get that fixed?
01:39Will you guys get that fixed?
01:40Yeah, we'll get it fixed, I mean, it's just in practice, just, you know, coming into practice
01:48and getting that fixed.
01:50And, you know, like you said, I mean, I'm in the secondary, but, you know, I trust all
01:55those guys up there.
01:56So, you know, I know they know what they're doing up there, so they'll be good.
02:01You know, every week in the league, you're going up against a top receiver on the other
02:05side.
02:06Yesterday, it was Brian Thomas Jr.
02:08What makes him so tough to go up against?
02:12Yeah, I mean, he's a good receiver.
02:16He's fast.
02:19I mean, he can stretch the field, so, I mean, it was good to go up and see the young receiver.
02:28Is he a talker, or how many of the guys that you've faced so far this year are talkers
02:32out there?
02:33Not really.
02:34I mean, I'd really be out there chilling.
02:39Nobody really talks or says anything crazy.
02:45I mean, you know, there's always a couple words, but I mean, nothing like crazy or nothing.
02:53What about on your side?
02:55Because I remember for years, Malcolm Butler was one of those guys, and he would always
02:59just be talking to the other team nonstop, and everybody on defense kind of like, yeah,
03:04he's the guy that talks.
03:05Is there anybody on this team that talks to the opposing offense?
03:10Um, no, not really.
03:15We kind of all just, you know, talk to each other.
03:19We all keep it.
03:21Not you, Chris?
03:22You're not much of a talker?
03:23No, I'm not.
03:24I'm not too much of a talker, no.
03:27Interesting.
03:28So, we were talking earlier about Gerard Mayo and the job security.
03:32Do you feel like he's the right guy for the job?
03:34Yeah.
03:35Why?
03:36Yeah.
03:37I don't got no, I mean, everybody in this locker room believes in him.
03:41We all, we all ride it behind him.
03:44I mean, it's his first year being head coach.
03:48I mean, nobody's done an amazing job the first year they've done something, so, I mean, I
03:55don't think it's fair for anybody outside the building to comment on that.
04:00Was there any, like, weird food or anything going on over there?
04:04Because I heard Kendrick Bourne, after the game, was talking about certain guys need
04:07to, you know, not stay up all night and eat the right foods and, you know, not saying
04:11it's necessarily who he was talking about, but Javon Baker missed a practice and then
04:16Pop Douglas missed a bunch of time with the game because of, you know, he wasn't feeling
04:20very well.
04:21But was there some weird food out there that you guys were eating?
04:25I mean, no.
04:29Okay.
04:30All right.
04:31Well, you had two sick players and you had another player say that guys weren't eating
04:37the right stuff.
04:38So, I didn't know if you got any, obviously, you were able to avoid that, whatever it was.
04:47How was the London cuisine for you?
04:49Maybe not great for your teammates.
04:50How was it for you?
04:51Anything good on the menu?
04:52I mean, it was cool.
04:53I didn't get nothing that was just in London.
05:02I mean, I got a little London snack when I went to the Tottenham game, some chips and
05:08a drink that they don't got in America, but other than that, it was cool.
05:13What was the field like?
05:15Because I know they were making a big deal in the NFL Network being like, oh yeah, it's
05:17like it's a good surface and nobody's slipping.
05:20And then yet you saw plenty of people slip on both teams.
05:23What was the surface like compared to what you guys play here?
05:26Yeah, I mean, it wasn't, I felt like it wasn't too slick, but I mean, besides that, it didn't
05:37seem too bad.
05:38All right.
05:39Well, Christian Gonzalez, we appreciate it.
05:42Thanks for joining us here in the Grab Bag and we'll talk to you next week.
05:45All right.
05:47Christian Gonzalez brought to you by Verizon, the official 5G network of the New England
05:53Patriots.
05:54So it's interesting.
05:55You asked him about Kendrick Bourne calling out.
05:59We think we don't know this.
06:00Yeah.
06:01Yeah.
06:02Well, that's what I tried to make clear.
06:03I'm not, I'm not saying that's exactly who Bob Douglas and Jayvon Baker, he said there
06:05were players on the team, maybe got to watch what they eat, staying up late.
06:09And he said next, he hit you with next question, Keefe.
06:11Wow.
06:12Next question.
06:13It's better than odd question.
06:14Yeah.
06:15Grab bag.
06:16Huh?
06:17I can go to the next question.
06:18I don't think I have one.
06:19So I want the answer to that one.
06:20We got through them pretty quick.
06:21Yeah.
06:22We kind of burned through what we had there.
06:23To be honest.
06:24I ran out of questions.
06:25A few questions.
06:26Do you have any questions for us?
06:27He's like, no.
06:28But he went to the Tottenham game.
06:29Yeah.
06:30Do you think he requested?
06:31Not you, Chris.
06:32You're not much of a talker.
06:33No, I'm not.
06:34I'm not too much of a talker.
06:36Yeah.
06:37I don't know.
06:38Did he request to be a part of the show?
06:39I don't know.
06:40I think at some point we do.
06:41We have to start.
06:42It feels.
06:43We got to get to the bottom of that a little bit.
06:44I mean, you know, I would like to know.
06:45I don't know how you crack the shell.
06:46I just don't know.
06:47I don't know.
06:48You think he has a shell?
06:49I don't know.
06:50I don't know.
06:51I don't know.
06:52I don't know.
06:53I don't know.
06:54I don't know.
06:55I don't know.
06:56I don't know.
06:57I don't know.
06:58I don't know.
06:59I don't know.
07:00I don't know.
07:01I don't know.
07:02I don't know.
07:04You think he has a shell?
07:05Yeah, of course.
07:06It's a thin candy shell.
07:07I'm surprised you didn't know that.
07:08It's interesting.
07:09I'm surprised he has a shell.
07:10He's so conversational.
07:11I am, but when it.
07:13Nah, I'm not too much of a talker now.
07:16Grab bag.
