00:00The shackles of poverty will easily be shattered when the community comes together to find and take the necessary steps to be rid of such crippling problem.

00:09That's why stakeholders in Iloilo and Antique have pledged commitment to support the government's programs to finally rid the area of this menace.

00:18PIA Iloilo's Lilibeth Aguilar French has the details.

00:23As a commitment against poverty, various stakeholders led by the National Anti-Poverty Commission and Mayor Nilo Bumbung Tupas

00:31signed the Pledge of Commitment forging cooperation and invulnerable support for the call to end poverty and uplift the lives of the poor.

00:39The signing of the Pledge of Commitment was one of the highlights during the celebration of the National Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty in Barotakbeho Town in Iloilo Province.

00:50In his message, Mayor Nilo Tupas said his municipality is one with NAPCS' goal in the fight against poverty and in attaining a single-digit poverty rate by 2028,

01:02citing the different programs implemented to support this agenda, including scholarship programs for students and assistance to less privileged constituents through their social services.

01:14Rest assured that the local government unit of Barotakbeho is one in their fight and pursuit against poverty and to lower the poverty percentage, not just in Barotakbeho but in the whole Philippines.

01:31NAPCS Undersecretary Esne Nteng Katong stressed the importance of the activity commemorated worldwide,

01:38with the theme Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment, Acting Together for Just, Peaceful, and Inclusive Societies,

01:46emphasizing the importance of a collaborative, whole-of-society approach to addressing poverty.

01:53Also marking the commemoration was a rat-laying activity before a replica of the commemorative stone, marker, or batunang buhay in front of the Barotakbeho Municipal Gym,

02:04serving as a reminder of the continuing campaign to combat poverty.

02:08Another replica of the batunang buhay or stone of life is installed in Western Visayas.

02:14This is found in the municipality of Aninie in the province of Antique.

02:18Commemorative activities were also conducted during the day, including a rat-laying ceremony led by National Anti-Poverty Commission Director Alexis Lapiz,

02:28Mayor Max Phil, Polycar, and other local and government officials.
