00:00This is the new wearable sensor patch being developed by a joint research team in Japan,
00:09and one day it could save your life.
00:11The patch measures cardiac activity via electrocardiogram or ECG.
00:15It also measures respiration, skin temperature, and humidity caused by perspiration.
00:20It then sends all of that live data to a smartphone via Bluetooth, which its developers say could
00:25eventually be an early warning system for symptoms related to a number of conditions.
00:29The patch simply sticks to the skin and goes hand-in-hand with a smartphone app.
00:33The researchers say that the associated machine learning program will continue to get better
00:37and be updated as the device is more widely used.
00:40They add that the app can identify the early signs of heat stress at the moment, with their
00:44study identifying the condition with 80% accuracy.
00:47However, the researchers say it will eventually be able to detect much, much more.
00:51They are currently working on predicting heart arrhythmia, coughing, and to identify falls
00:55which could leave the user unconscious.
00:57One of the project's lead researchers saying, the significant advance of this study is the
01:01integration of multimodal flexible sensors, real-time machine learning data analysis,
01:06and remote vital monitoring using a smartphone.
