00:00:30Help! Help! Help!
00:00:35Help! Help!
00:00:38Jeez, that's enough.
00:00:47Jin! Jin! Wake up!
00:00:50Jin.
00:00:58Here are we.
00:00:59The emergency system is kicking in. We need to stop it.
00:01:02Where's Simmons?
00:01:03I don't know, why?
00:01:04He's got the override codes, that's why.
00:01:05Wait, you have to find him.
00:01:14He's over here, Jane. Malcolm!
00:01:16I think he's hurt.
00:01:17Malcolm! Malcolm! Malcolm, can you hear me?
00:01:22He's not responding. How long do we have?
00:01:26Less than 20 seconds.
00:01:27See if you can find anything on him that has his code.
00:01:32I can't find his access passes.
00:01:34Exposure protocols in effect.
00:01:36He's out cold. He's taking a blow to the head.
00:01:38We've got to get him out of here.
00:01:57We've got to get him out of here.
00:02:27We've got to get him out of here.
00:02:58Good afternoon. My name is Dr. Franklin.
00:03:02Some of you will know me, but many of you will not.
00:03:06In 24 hours, I begin an adventure that for me has been years in the making
00:03:11and for all of you, could possibly lead to the most exciting work
00:03:15and discoveries of your professional lives.
00:03:18It's a journey that will take me from the comforts of my office and home
00:03:21here in New York City to the most exciting places in the world.
00:03:25From the comforts of my office and home here in New York City
00:03:28to one of the harshest and most challenging environments known to man,
00:03:32the South Pole.
00:03:34My goal and the goal of everyone involved on my team
00:03:38will be to drill deep into nearby Lake Vostok.
00:03:42It's our deep and sincere belief that when we breach the ice
00:03:45that has stood for hundreds and thousands of years there,
00:03:48we'll discover something truly remarkable.
00:03:51A lake. A lake isolated from the rest of the world
00:03:54for perhaps millions of years.
00:03:56And it's there, despite the incredibly harsh conditions,
00:04:00that we hope to discover forms of life that are totally unique.
00:04:05These new forms can offer us a totally new perspective
00:04:08of how life on Earth was formed, and beyond that,
00:04:12it just opens the possibility of similar life on other worlds,
00:04:16such as the icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn.
00:04:22This will be one of the most challenging expeditions of my life,
00:04:25but thanks to the support of everyone at Hyperion,
00:04:29and my dear friend Dr. Simmons, it's one that I'll relish.
00:04:33So, to quote the indomitable explorer Jacques Cousteau,
00:04:37the impossible missions are the only ones that succeed.
00:04:41After my arrival, I'll be sharing our progress regularly
00:04:44with all of you through this corporate weblog.
00:04:47But until then, godspeed.
00:04:53We're not going anywhere unless he wakes up.
00:04:55If we don't get out of here in the next 70 minutes, then...
00:04:59Then what?
00:05:01Then the room is filled with napalm and ignited.
00:05:04Anything and everyone, down to the microscopic level,
00:05:08is going to be incinerated.
00:05:10Christ.
00:05:11It'll be okay. We'll get out. We just have to wake him up.
00:05:14Look everywhere. Find a survival crate.
00:05:16There should be a medkit inside.
00:05:20Okay.
00:05:24Are you okay?
00:05:25Yeah.
00:05:34Found something.
00:05:36There's a...
00:05:37There's a lamp. There's water.
00:05:39There's bandages.
00:05:42Shit.
00:05:45Shit.
00:05:51What is that?
00:05:53I don't know.
00:06:00Jen, what are you doing?
00:06:03Trying to get some answers.
00:06:10Shit.
00:06:14Shit.
00:06:20Jesus, Jen.
00:06:22Is that a gunshot wound?
00:06:24I don't know.
00:06:27Here, hold this.
00:06:29We gotta find out how he got like this.
00:06:44Above the wound.
00:07:15Hold on. Don't shoot.
00:07:21Who are you?
00:07:23I'm Dr. Harding. This is Dr. Cooper.
00:07:26You're in a safe room.
00:07:28You've been shot.
00:07:30I patched you up as best I can, but we're gonna need some help.
00:07:34We need to find out what happened.
00:07:40Do you know what happened?
00:07:45It's hazy.
00:07:47I think I passed out.
00:07:52Do you have water?
00:07:54I'm gonna get you some.
00:08:15Who's that?
00:08:17That's Simmons. We found him like that.
00:08:19Is he...
00:08:20No, no. He's just unconscious.
00:08:21Looks like he took a pretty bad blow to the head. He's okay for now.
00:08:26Okay.
00:08:27Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:08:29What?
00:08:30You gotta stay still. You can't go anywhere.
00:08:32I won't be okay for long without all your friend over there.
00:08:38Well, what am I missing?
00:08:45We can't get out.
00:08:47What do you mean? Just open the door.
00:08:49Can't open the door.
00:08:50Why?
00:08:52I need to go find the light.
00:08:56The room's in lockdown.
00:08:58Containment protocol.
00:09:02When the room is entered and the door is closed,
00:09:04the occupants have five minutes to enter the required all-clear codes.
00:09:08No codes are entered.
00:09:11Containment protocol kicks in.
00:09:12We have 70 minutes to enter their override codes.
00:09:15Okay, so you have the code, right? The code to get out?
00:09:18Yeah, I've got a code, but that's not enough.
00:09:20Two independent codes have to be entered in order for the override to work.
00:09:23Okay, so you got the other one.
00:09:27Oh, you gotta be shitting me, man.
00:09:29We're locked in this room and the only person that can help us is to knock down the goddamn floor?
00:09:33What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
00:09:35You don't want to know.
00:09:36Hey, I think I do, Doc.
00:09:38The countdown reaches zero before any code is entered.
00:09:42The system will either think the occupants are hostile, incapacitated, or contaminated.
00:09:49Then what happens?
00:09:53Then the room is filled with pure oxygen and napalm is detonated.
00:09:57Anything and everything left in this room will be vaporized.
00:10:00Jesus, am I sticking around for that? I didn't sign up for this.
00:10:04There's no way I'm staying around to get lit up like a barbecue.
00:10:06There might be another option.
00:10:09When I first started here, Malcolm, Dr. Simmons, said that if an override code was entered externally,
00:10:16then any countdown can be stopped.
00:10:18But, there's a but, right?
00:10:20But that's only possible if there's someone on the outside to enter the code.
00:10:24If there's no one there, then...
00:10:26Back to the old barbecue.
00:10:28Sorry, put me down on a good time for jokes.
00:10:31Damn it, no signal.
00:10:33Hey, any guys got cell on you?
00:10:35No. No cell phones in the lab.
00:10:38Left mine in the locker, before all this started.
00:10:41It won't matter anyway.
00:10:43This room is under meters of concrete and surrounded by steel.
00:10:47Built to last.
00:10:49I don't want to be here.
00:10:51I don't want to be here.
00:10:53I don't want to be here.
00:10:55I don't want to be here.
00:10:57I don't want to be here.
00:10:58Surrounded by steel.
00:11:00Built to withstand a bomb, but a bitch to make a call.
00:11:12What?
00:11:14What is it, Harding?
00:11:16Harding, what is it? What's up?
00:11:18What is it, Jen? What do you got?
00:11:20Paul, please be in here.
00:11:29Is that what I think it is?
00:11:31I can't believe I forgot about this.
00:11:33There should be a port in one of these walls.
00:11:35Take that cord and plug it into it.
00:11:39Did you find it, Cooper?
00:11:41Yeah, sort of. Not much cable though.
00:11:44Got it.
00:11:49Let's hope this works.
00:11:51Hope what works?
00:11:53VPN.
00:11:55VP what?
00:11:56Virtual Personal Network.
00:11:58Simmons had it installed about a month ago.
00:12:00I can't get an external connection from in here,
00:12:02but I can connect to my workstation,
00:12:04which is connected to the internal network.
00:12:06From there I should be able to access
00:12:08that same network.
00:12:10Get us some answers.
00:12:12Get help too.
00:12:14Outstanding.
00:12:16Thanks, Simmons.
00:12:18When that man wakes up and we get out of here,
00:12:20I'm giving him a big kiss.
00:12:22Me too. Well, maybe not a kiss, but definitely a beer.
00:12:27Safe from occupied.
00:12:29Four occupants, two wounded.
00:12:32Containment protocol initiated.
00:12:34Countdown in effect.
00:12:36Fifty-five minutes remaining.
00:12:38Need urgent evac.
00:12:40Respond ASAP.
00:12:48There.
00:12:51I think we're good.
00:12:52There.
00:12:56Someone will respond.
00:12:58We hope.
00:13:00Sit tight, Robert.
00:13:02You gotta be patient.
00:13:04I'd be a little more patient
00:13:06if that timer wasn't counting down every damn second.
00:13:16Well, here I am.
00:13:18I'll be several days behind schedule,
00:13:20but since leaving New York
00:13:22we've traveled over 9,000 miles
00:13:24via two continents to get here.
00:13:26After a few weeks of flights
00:13:28and trains and cars
00:13:30it's really just a relief to be able to stop
00:13:32and it'll be really nice to sleep in the same bed
00:13:34for more than one night.
00:13:36The journey for the team
00:13:38really was planned perfectly down to the smallest detail.
00:13:40If it wasn't for the sudden shift in the snow front
00:13:42we'd have been here
00:13:44exactly as detailed in the itinerary,
00:13:46so scheduling has been fantastic.
00:13:48Technology-wise,
00:13:50the level of technology here
00:13:52is far surpassing anything
00:13:54any previous expeditions have had.
00:13:56Some of the most comfortable living quarters
00:13:58I think I've ever seen,
00:14:00so the team and I are really gonna settle in quickly,
00:14:02which is great.
00:14:04It's easy to forget just where we are.
00:14:06I mean, we're on one of the most isolated
00:14:08and inhospitable places on the Earth.
00:14:10We'll be setting up the drill site
00:14:12in about 48 hours, weather permitting.
00:14:14Before that,
00:14:16I'll set up the lab with Dr. Phillips.
00:14:18Really, there's a long way to go
00:14:20before we can do the work we've come here to do,
00:14:22but the team and I are so excited to get started.
00:14:24I haven't felt this way in years,
00:14:26and I'm really looking forward
00:14:28to sharing it with you guys,
00:14:30so until then, wish us luck.
00:14:39We need to stay busy until someone responds.
00:14:42Help me move Malcolm.
00:14:44Do you think we should?
00:14:46Jen, I mean, that's not such a good idea.
00:14:48He's not looking so good.
00:14:50You know, we don't know how long it's gonna be
00:14:52before someone comes.
00:14:54We can have seconds to get out of this place.
00:14:56The closer Malcolm is to the door,
00:14:58the better off we'll be.
00:15:00No, Jen, just leave him there.
00:15:02If he's our last option,
00:15:04I would just rather wait until then
00:15:06than we can try anything else.
00:15:08Just leave him.
00:15:10I don't want to hurt him.
00:15:12He's not our last option.
00:15:14Well, what do you suggest we do?
00:15:16What do you want me to do?
00:15:18I will do anything.
00:15:20Just leave him for me.
00:15:22Okay.
00:15:53Hey.
00:15:59Have some of this.
00:16:02Son of a bitch, man.
00:16:22How you doing?
00:16:24I'm a bit better.
00:16:27The pain's getting worse.
00:16:31Hang in there.
00:16:33We're gonna get you out of here soon,
00:16:35get you all fixed up, okay?
00:16:37You think he'll be okay?
00:16:39He's breathing.
00:16:41So for now, that's enough.
00:16:44All right, you know what?
00:16:46I'm gonna change the dressing on your wound
00:16:48and keep it as clean as possible
00:16:50until someone comes.
00:16:52You're not that kind of doctor, right?
00:16:55This might hurt.
00:16:58All right.
00:17:05All right, calm down.
00:17:07It's all right, you're doing great.
00:17:09Calm down.
00:17:11Shit.
00:17:13You know what?
00:17:15Pretty soon we are gonna be out of here.
00:17:23Motherfucker.
00:17:25Motherfucker.
00:17:27Fuck, fuck, fuck.
00:17:29Okay, one,
00:17:31two.
00:17:33Ah, you said three!
00:17:35Fuck!
00:17:37I've never been shot before.
00:17:43All right.
00:17:45I didn't expect this.
00:17:47This must be an easy assignment.
00:17:49Hold on, hold on.
00:17:50We are almost there, we're almost there.
00:17:52Oh.
00:17:55All right.
00:17:57Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:18:02Looks better.
00:18:04Here we go.
00:18:07Good job.
00:18:09What is it?
00:18:11What is it?
00:18:13Oh my God.
00:18:15What?
00:18:17Answer it.
00:18:18Answer it.
00:18:22Hello?
00:18:26Hello?
00:18:27Who is this?
00:18:29This is Dr. Harding.
00:18:31Dr. Jennifer Harding.
00:18:33Who is with you?
00:18:36Can I ask who this is?
00:18:38Are you from the police?
00:18:40Or the FBI?
00:18:43Do you know what's happened?
00:18:44Hello?
00:18:46Ma'am, who else is with you?
00:18:50I'm here with my colleagues,
00:18:52Dr. Robert Cooper and Dr. Malcolm Simmons.
00:18:55There's also a soldier here,
00:18:57Corporal Carter.
00:18:59Dr. Simmons and Carter are injured.
00:19:02They need urgent medical assistance.
00:19:04Okay.
00:19:06My name is Mr. Lam.
00:19:08I'm from Department of Homeland Security.
00:19:10We got your message.
00:19:12Are any more of you hurt?
00:19:14No, Dr. Cooper and I are unharmed.
00:19:16We woke up here in the safe room.
00:19:18We don't know how we got here.
00:19:20Do you know what happened?
00:19:22Good. What is the status of your injured?
00:19:24The corporal has a gunshot wound in his left leg.
00:19:27I treated it as best that I could.
00:19:29And Dr. Simmons, he's unconscious.
00:19:32He seems to have sustained some kind of blow to the head.
00:19:35They both need urgent medical assistance.
00:19:39Has Dr. Simmons regained consciousness at any stage?
00:19:42No.
00:19:44Why does that...
00:19:46Just wanted to check.
00:19:48So I'm clear with the situation.
00:19:50We're not clear with the situation.
00:19:52We're stuck here in a safe room
00:19:54with no way to get out unless you help us.
00:19:56We don't have a lot of time left,
00:19:58so what's going on?
00:20:00I'm here to help you, Doctor.
00:20:02But I'm sure you can appreciate
00:20:04we need to assess the situation before we respond.
00:20:06Well, what is the situation that you need to assess?
00:20:08Hello?
00:20:10Mr. Lam?
00:20:12Yes, I'm here.
00:20:14I will brief you on the situation as it stands.
00:20:17I ask that you do not interrupt me
00:20:19in any way until I have finished.
00:20:21Agreed?
00:20:23Of course. Agreed.
00:20:25Earlier this morning,
00:20:27there were three car bombings in central Manhattan.
00:20:29All were within minutes of the other
00:20:31and all targeted at civilian locations.
00:20:33However, we believe this was a diversion
00:20:35from another target.
00:20:37The primary target was the facility
00:20:39in which you work.
00:20:41It was attacked in force
00:20:42because the terrorists had access to the facility
00:20:44and had targeted specific materials to obtain.
00:20:46There was a firefight at the facility
00:20:48as the terrorists tried to leave.
00:20:50During the fight,
00:20:52it appears that the material they were trying to take
00:20:54was compromised.
00:20:56As a result, the facility has been secured
00:20:58to assess the risk of outside contamination.
00:21:00Well, what about us?
00:21:02Are we contaminated?
00:21:04We don't know.
00:21:06We are assessing that now.
00:21:08What material was released?
00:21:12We don't know.
00:21:14We're...
00:21:16Let me guess, assessing the situation?
00:21:18Mr. Lang, we don't have a lot of time.
00:21:22Damn it.
00:21:24We understand your situation, Doctor.
00:21:26Rest assured.
00:21:28Once we know more about the potential level
00:21:30of contamination,
00:21:32we will have a team come to you.
00:21:34I'm sure someone with your experience
00:21:35can understand that.
00:21:37Yeah, I understand.
00:21:39Good.
00:21:41We will make contact again shortly.
00:21:49It has been such an exciting morning.
00:21:52I've traveled to the drill site
00:21:54to view the drilling platform
00:21:56and see for myself the fantastic work
00:21:58that's been done by Vitaly and his team.
00:22:00They have taken great measures
00:22:02to ensure that the drill bits aren't freezing
00:22:03as we drill deeper into the borehole.
00:22:05Now, to prevent freezing and closing,
00:22:07an eco-neutral fluid
00:22:09has been poured into the borehole.
00:22:11This should prevent any bacterial
00:22:13or other contamination
00:22:15as we near the breakthrough depth.
00:22:17The team, myself included,
00:22:19we all want to make sure
00:22:21that this time, effort, and money
00:22:23isn't wasted by leaving things like that to chance
00:22:25because the risk of contamination at this point
00:22:27is just too awful to contemplate.
00:22:29I'm making sure that I cross my fingers
00:22:31as much as I can
00:22:33and I'm just hoping for the best at this point.
00:22:35But in the meantime,
00:22:37I'm going to go back to the drill site
00:22:39with Dr. Phillips to observe
00:22:41the very first drive into the ice layer.
00:22:43So, wish us luck.
00:22:48Jesus!
00:22:50Get me out of here!
00:22:52Get me out! Open! Open!
00:22:54Get me out of here, please!
00:22:56Open! Open the door!
00:22:58God damn it!
00:23:04It's okay, Robert.
00:23:06We're going to be okay.
00:23:08Wish everyone shared your confidence, Jen.
00:23:10We heard what that guy Lang said.
00:23:12We just need to sit tight
00:23:14and they'll be coming to get us.
00:23:16You know what, though?
00:23:18I can't believe a bunch of sand rats
00:23:20actually found this place.
00:23:22I don't know what to do.
00:23:24I don't know what to do.
00:23:26I don't know what to do.
00:23:28I don't know what to do.
00:23:30I don't know what to do.
00:23:31I don't know that a bunch of sand rats
00:23:33actually found this place.
00:23:35I didn't even know this place existed
00:23:37until I got hauled in on assignment.
00:23:41Sand rats?
00:23:43Yeah, sand rats, Al-Qaeda, Muslim extremists,
00:23:46whatever you want to call them.
00:23:48Look, we don't know who's responsible for this,
00:23:51and until we know,
00:23:53just keep all that to yourself.
00:23:55What, to myself the facts, Doc?
00:23:57Are you really trying to keep things
00:23:59PC in here right now?
00:24:01what happened and who's involved that there's no need to stir ourselves up we
00:24:06just need to focus on being ready to get out of here he's got a point though Jen
00:24:11Robert please hear me out Jen listen you're right Carter what what you're
00:24:18saying is right not how you say it but what you're saying fuck you too doc no
00:24:24you're right Carter just just listen how did these terrorists or extremists or
00:24:29however you want to label and get into this place I mean it's not like we have
00:24:33a sign on the front door that says come in now the company made sure this place
00:24:37was totally covert meaning there's no board intrusion no congressional meddling
00:24:42I thought this was a military facility well yes it's it in a sense yes it works
00:24:47primarily for the military but it's privately funded there's no money in
00:24:52government for places like this and that's how the military likes it meaning
00:24:57there's no budget questions there's no pressure what's your point Robert my
00:25:02point Jen is that there's only two ways for these terrorists to get into this
00:25:07place they either hijack the company database or they got someone to give it
00:25:12up are you saying this is an inside job we don't know we don't know who the hell
00:25:24was on the end of that call we don't know that that Lange from Homeland
00:25:27Security even exists it's not Lange who the hell do you think it is we don't
00:25:32know that's my point we're stuck in here and we have no idea what the hell is
00:25:37going on out there come on man you're not serious man come on
00:25:41because I'm serious what is it you think we do here what what's this facility do
00:25:51what's its function storage you store chemical weapons before they're shipped
00:25:56off for use or disposal that's part of what we do yes hard Robert what are you
00:26:02doing it's okay Jen he needs to know what no it doesn't what are you guys
00:26:08talking about what Robert down we create viruses you create viruses why
00:26:21how why is easy the how is not the start the why you've heard of that nuclear
00:26:26deterrent right well it's quickly becoming clear it's not much of a
00:26:31deterrent anymore why two reasons cost too much to maintain and it's not a
00:26:37clean weapon look back in the day of the Cold War the biggest fear was
00:26:43nuclear and we could hold our hand above the doomsday button and keep our enemies
00:26:49at bay now the biggest fear is the bottom line and having a weapon that'll
00:26:54leave the country we want to attack uninhabitable for a few hundred years
00:27:00it's all about the damn bean counter of course do you really think that we can
00:27:06afford all the equipment the men the time to manage a nuclear arsenal to put
00:27:12it simply the world can't afford a World War three but what it can afford and
00:27:16what we're spending billions in trying to create is a weapon so sophisticated
00:27:22it's as smart as it is deadly viruses not just any viruses viruses that are
00:27:31designed viruses that are targeted corporation has given us the freedom to
00:27:36create something with infinite possibilities to allow us to truly
00:27:39protect our country strike fear into those who want to do us harm God Robert
00:27:46you're starting to sound like the suited headquarters this isn't about creating a
00:27:55weapon this is about developing the understanding to control and manipulate
00:28:00the organisms that are the very building blocks of humanity the weapon
00:28:05is just a starting place it's a it's a way to fund our work well doc it looks
00:28:12like someone else wants to know your work
00:28:18yeah looks that way I need to request more security for the station the drill
00:28:30site was attacked this afternoon by some damn activists they tried to
00:28:33destroy the generator for the drill to Vitaly's team luckily came across them
00:28:37there was a fight that ensued thank God no one was hurt you know some cuts and
00:28:41bruises the activists are now in custody and Bob from securities called for a
00:28:45transport so we can get them sent to the authorities we were lucky who knows what
00:28:50they could have done they were both crazy screaming about the lake and what's
00:28:53down there and what needs to be kept down there I spent too much time
00:28:57preparing for this to let some lunatics wreck it I've asked for Bob to submit a
00:29:01request to headquarters for another security team I'll do the same the team
00:29:05needs to be protected in order to be able to work in peace
00:29:10mr. Lang yes it's me dr. Harding how are you doing uh we're as fine as we can be
00:29:28mr. Lang good that's good any news on the situation outside yes there have
00:29:35been some developments since we last spoke we're all ears mr. Lang yes sorry
00:29:43our initial reports have been confirmed this was indeed a terrorist attack we
00:29:47believe them to have been an extremist group a sympathetic to Al Qaeda it would
00:29:51appear that the car bombs were indeed a smokescreen a distraction for the real
00:29:55target your facility at this stage we believe at least 12 terrorists were part
00:30:01of the attack on the facility nine were killed in the ensuing gunfight the other
00:30:05three are being hunted right now what they get what materials are compromised
00:30:12that is still to be determined doctor we have teams working in the facility now
00:30:31we are working to get you as quickly as possible dr. Harding do you understand
00:30:45yes I understand perfectly we'll be ready when you come for us good I'll be
00:30:51in contact again soon
00:31:01you know I'm sorry I just can't believe that this could all be over the drill is
00:31:09taking far longer than planned and at this rate the team would need to work 24
00:31:13hours a day straight for a month just to ensure that we stay on track at best
00:31:17we're drilling a meter a day a meter you know if the company wants to replace me
00:31:21then they should just come out and say it I mean I asked for a security team
00:31:25and what I got instead was an inspection team this guy Lang from headquarters
00:31:29what right does he have to question my methods the board believe I'm not the
00:31:32right person for the job I mean if I'd known the company was going to be
00:31:35sending me a babysitter I never would have taken this assignment the sooner he
00:31:39leaves the better this project will be we all understand the investment the
00:31:42company's put into this we don't need it shoved down our throats I'm getting a
00:31:49bad feeling about all this you heard that guy Lang said they need to check
00:31:54some things out they'll be coming to get us and you believe that they're not
00:31:57gonna come down here and rescue us who would know our families would know man
00:32:01how do you think they'll explain away all of us dying down here it doesn't
00:32:04matter it's the government man they can do and say what they want plus the
00:32:08company has billions in compensation they could just dish out you're losing
00:32:11it man you need to get your head on straight no my head's on fine thank you
00:32:14very much maybe you better snap out of all that army brainwashing brainwashing
00:32:18the fuck did you just say you heard me Captain America just stay down when it
00:32:22comes to situations like this we mean shit what because it's the truth you
00:32:27wouldn't know the truth if it slapped you in the face
00:32:32fuck you man stop it stop it now stop it
00:32:42don't you dare move don't you dare move Robert move away from him now Robert go
00:33:01over to the crate look inside find anything you can to tie his hands with
00:33:08if you move one more time I will shoot you don't think I want Carter I've been
00:33:21trained how to use a gun and I will use it anything Robert no nothing search his
00:33:29pockets Jen I really don't want to do this anymore just do it
00:33:37man
00:33:48tie him up tie his hands making a big mistake doc we'll see about that
00:33:55corporal what are you gonna do now shoot my other leg all right this is blog
00:34:04entry 170 yeah is that all feels like more we're about 40 meters from the
00:34:12breakthrough depth I guess since my last entry it's been it's taken us about
00:34:16three weeks to make another 10 meters the ice just seems to get more
00:34:20formidable with every meter we drill Vitaly and the rest of the drill team
00:34:25have worked around the clock to replace damaged drill heads but I think now
00:34:29we've broken through the worst of it and we can push on the team are just
00:34:35tired they're fed up and the cold is never ending here we've really struggled
00:34:40ever since Lang and the others have arrived and it feels like every move is
00:34:43being monitored we're more like prisoners here than scientists and we all
00:34:47want to finish the job but I don't think any of us are gonna be having iced tea
00:34:50anytime soon the beauty of this place has long been forgotten I mean it's
00:34:55barren it's lifeless I just hope that the blood sweat and tears that have been
00:34:59spilled to breach this ice is worth it you know the treasure is underneath that
00:35:03lake they have to be worth it the good news is we should break through in about
00:35:08two days so hopefully I'll have a happier report then
00:35:13Jen what do you know he's one of them what he's one of the terrorists a
00:35:24terrorist him you've gone nuts Cooper on time your colleagues gone nuts
00:35:29shut up you son of a bitch you are not going anywhere back off Robert unless
00:35:37you want to join Carter here I think you've got some explaining to do
00:35:43Cooper I don't need to explain shit she's gone batshit crazy and you're
00:35:47going along for the ride I'm mr. unlucky asshole stuck in here with you you seem
00:35:52to have forgotten I got shot saving your friend over there huh if I'm a terrorist
00:35:56why would I do that oh ha ha stumped the two geniuses huh we're not the only two
00:36:04who think you're a terrorist seems like some people on the outside think so too
00:36:07who homeland that guy Lang you're gonna hold me a gunpoint or the promise of a
00:36:16guy you've ever been fucking met man you were happy to defend him just a few
00:36:20minutes ago yeah that's what I had gun to my face you'll have a chance to speak
00:36:23to him soon enough if if you're innocent you have nothing to worry about what
00:36:27makes you think we'll be getting out of here huh take a look around Harding how
00:36:31much do we really even matter what makes you think Lang or whoever there
00:36:35was another no I won't even be coming for us or be true to his word you have a
00:36:40family doc huh you got a family anyone you might care about on the outside huh
00:36:48answer me doc doc yeah I have a family
00:36:58I mean a lot to you huh I have a family too wife two kids you want to take them
00:37:07away from me lose my family you lose your family on the promise of a stranger
00:37:12don't talk about my family why your family means a lot to you my means a lot
00:37:17to me too shut up no you've called me a terrorist you hold me a gunpoint and
00:37:21tied me up without any fucking proof when I get killed down here it's gonna
00:37:24be your fault you will never see your family again
00:37:29stop it I told you to shut up! I told you to shut up!
00:37:42okay Jen, it's okay, it's okay, it's fine, it's nothing serious
00:37:49I'm sorry Robert I just lost it
00:38:01he's right Cooper we're stuck in here our families are out there I I can't
00:38:10leave Sarah out there she's been through so much we'll get through it we'll get
00:38:16through it you'll be able to see your sister again okay okay Jen here here
00:38:25grab me some water and a bandage
00:38:33is he okay he's fine well here it is after 172 days in this lifeless place
00:38:43we've finally found life now this specimen has survived under 13,000 feet
00:38:49of ice for millions of years who knows what we can learn from it what it can
00:38:55tell us about the world all that time ago I mean we've waited for months and
00:38:58months for this moment and now it's here I just I can't believe it the team is
00:39:03going crazy Lang actually seemed to smile for the first time since I've met
00:39:07him you know maybe the pain of the last few weeks has been worth it yeah I'm
00:39:12commencing testing tomorrow with dr. Phillips but for now it is time to
00:39:16celebrate should I answer it no I'll get it
00:39:34oh
00:39:37mr. Lang yes doctor it's me are you coming for us there have been some
00:39:45complications what complications it appears that the teams on-site cannot
00:39:50confirm what materials have been released they need more time to assess
00:39:54the risk before making any attempt to enter the facility who's making these
00:39:57assessments mr. Lang who are you waiting on the teams on site the emergency
00:40:05response unit from the CDC who's leading that unit well I don't have their name
00:40:12in front of me right now you don't have their name mr. Lang what on your desk on
00:40:18your desk in Washington where you have no fucking idea what's going on doctor
00:40:23I can assure you no you can't assure me cuz you don't actually know what's
00:40:26going on I can assure you no you listen to me I did as you said in your message
00:40:35mr. Lang I've subdued the corporal he's ready for you to take wait what what
00:40:41message
00:40:44enough you know we don't even know who you are we're gonna sort this out
00:40:53ourselves wait what the hell are you doing we need to be able to talk to them
00:40:56no Robert but we're trapped in here and they're the only ones who can let us out
00:41:00can't rely on then we have to do this ourselves what do you propose we do
00:41:07Malcolm has a code that's your suggestion Malcolm's unconscious do you
00:41:16want to see your boys again you know I do then we can't wait for help to come
00:41:21we have to help ourselves Malcolm has the code that can get us out we have to
00:41:27wake him up well today has been a fascinating day so far we've isolated
00:41:40the microbes from some of the water samples and I've been examining them
00:41:43with dr. Phillips I mean their structure is absolutely astonishing it it appears
00:41:48that over time they've evolved to withstand this harsh environment and
00:41:51they've more than survived they've flourished I mean these microbes can
00:41:55really offer us real advances in modern genetics thankfully we're gonna break
00:41:59for a few hours last night's celebration seemed to be taking their toll on the
00:42:02whole team no more champagne for me ever
00:42:12okay
00:42:18you
00:42:31his pulse is steady that's good how do you suppose we bring him round let me
00:42:38guess med kit
00:42:48hey Cooper grab the gun you don't have to do this man you don't have to do this
00:42:57grab the gun don't talk to him Robert I'm not talking you
00:43:02welcome
00:43:06dead smelling salts smelling salts try these turn them on his back
00:43:20do you really think these will work well we don't have much of a choice do we
00:43:26Malcolm please wake up
00:43:37oh
00:43:40hey Malcolm hey bud hey it's okay it's okay
00:43:46hey I'm breeze I'm gonna go get a drink of water
00:43:53my head you heard you heard you've been hurt have some water oh yeah just help
00:44:10me up come on take it easy
00:44:40there will be no more updates today it looks like I've got more than just a bad
00:44:49hangover some of the others are feeling pretty rundown too you think it might be
00:44:53food poisoning I told the chef that sushi was a bad idea but too late for
00:45:00that now dr. Phillips seems to be okay he's traveling with Lang back to
00:45:07headquarters today so Simmons and his team could start a more thorough
00:45:10breakdown of the samples two weeks cannot come fast
00:45:23the lab is attacked yeah we were told it was by some kind of terrorist group told
00:45:32by who my homeland security they contact us through VPN but it doesn't
00:45:39matter what's important right now Malcolm is that we're in the safe room I
00:45:42can see that
00:45:50Jen and I found you here we woke up in here we found you before the containment
00:45:55protocol kicked in nobody's left the room right well no I when we woke up the
00:46:07countdown had already started I tried to disable it with my code but my code
00:46:12won't work we tried to find yours too but you were unconscious why would you
00:46:17need mine to cancel the protocol to get out the hell are you talking about
00:46:26can't leave this room
00:46:33why why why Malcolm
00:46:42contaminated
00:46:48there's been an incident James our lab assistant attacked the tally you just
00:47:01beat him beat him by the time we pulled James off of him the tally was
00:47:05unconscious we've got him locked up in the rec room right now and the doctor's
00:47:10taking care of the tallies best he can
00:47:14we're all just so tired you know I don't think any of us have the energy to deal
00:47:18with about cabin fever like this right now I think something is really wrong
00:47:28Malcolm what happened I can only tell you what I remember I was in my lab
00:47:43working on some test samples and I heard some gunfire coming from the outer
00:47:48room I left my lab and I looked down the hall and I saw some gunmen they were
00:47:53shooting anybody that they saw I ran and I heard some kind of an explosion or
00:48:03something and all the alarms started going off I got hit in the back of the
00:48:11head by something or someone and I went down oh wait no someone someone grabbed
00:48:19me and they were dragging me down the hall and that's it that's it that's all
00:48:25that's all I remember next thing I know I was I was here is that it Malcolm is
00:48:33that who helped you
00:48:36I don't know maybe I didn't what about contamination what about it the alarms
00:48:51were going off the only way the alarms will go off is in the event that there
00:48:55is detected material if the labs are compromised but did you actually see
00:49:02anything I didn't I didn't see anything specific I just heard the gunfire and
00:49:11the fucking alarms well then how do you know we can't leave the safe room all I
00:49:19know is is protocol if there's alarms there's a breach we go to the safe room
00:49:26we think it's emanated
00:49:34but I know what they were looking for the gunman
00:49:41yeah well what Malcolm
00:49:46this this is absolute power it's the ultimate power of life and death
00:50:04Malcolm please it's true it's uh a virus so deadly I mean he makes a boulder look
00:50:18like a damn head cold
00:50:21it's got no no cure outside of
00:50:27this antidote that I have right here what I have right here this is this is
00:50:33barely enough to save maybe a thousand people maybe but but this
00:50:44there's enough in here to kill three-fourths of the entire population of
00:50:52planet earth I don't know who those gunmen were I don't know but what I do
00:51:04know is there's not a government or terrorist network on the face of this
00:51:11planet it doesn't want control of this
00:51:16and that's just what the company wanted I don't understand Malcolm where did
00:51:23these come from I mean I never heard anything about this you weren't supposed
00:51:27to weren't authorized to know I'd say the company decides who knows what this
00:51:35was classified top-secret well if it's classified why are you telling us now
00:51:42look around you Jen what do you think's happened they don't want to stop this
00:51:50from getting into the hands of terrorists they just they just don't
00:51:53want them to get it for nothing it has to look like an accident
00:51:58what are you saying Simmons
00:52:09why would the company do that who do you think we work for Robert there are
00:52:15weapons manufacturing company weapons not like not like like guns and bombs
00:52:21and missiles those are toys what we work on is is vastly more dangerous
00:52:29infinitely more valuable that's bullshit Malcolm you've hit your head you're not
00:52:33thinking straight it's not bullshit we all created this together you just don't
00:52:39know it everything's been separated you you were working on isolating the
00:52:47molecular structure of smallpox that was your job you were doing the same
00:52:52thing with botulism team two was working on bubonic plague and cholera my job was
00:52:59to combine them all into a super virus which I accomplished two weeks ago the
00:53:05e-strain
00:53:09the what
00:53:15extinction strength extinction killing each other my team people I've known for
00:53:23years I mean they're just turning on each other and I know it has something
00:53:28to do with those microbes they're infectious somehow whatever it is it's
00:53:32unlike anything we've ever seen before I mean it's just been surviving under the
00:53:37ice for millions of years waiting for us I don't know in our rush to get down
00:53:43there and discover it we unlock something horrible and I I don't think
00:53:49it was ever meant to be discovered it's it's going to New York I'm gonna say
00:54:01like New York it's gonna spread listen if you get this you have to destroy what
00:54:06we sent back it was never meant to be discovered I've locked myself in here
00:54:15I've activated the emergency beacon and I've got enough food to last me for a
00:54:19couple days I just want to be home I want to be home I want to be warm
00:54:28what do you think the power of life and death is what it's worth what would you
00:54:41pay this is billions billions of dollars in my hands it's priceless
00:54:51company doesn't care about us all they care about is the product that's it you
00:55:02think if you can get out of here you're gonna be safe even if you're not
00:55:09contaminated we know too much we're too involved no no it's only one logical
