00:00Normally, I like showing you guys the latest, best, shiny flagship tech that costs like
00:09a million pounds and no one can actually afford.
00:11This video is a little bit different because, well, this is actually last year's TV.
00:15Yep, it's the 75-inch LG QNED Mini-LED Quantum Dot TV, which is a bit of a mouthful.
00:24But why the heck am I talking about this when it came out last summer in 2021?
00:29Well, it's simple really because the best advice I can give anyone looking to buy a
00:33brand new TV is to wait.
00:36Unlike smartphones and laptops and actually a lot of consumer tech, TVs are renowned for
00:42coming down in price pretty quickly.
00:44And so now, this QNED91 has been out for almost a year.
00:49It's actually gone down from a whopping £3,700, nearly £4,000 at launch, to just £2,200.
00:56And it's even cheaper for LG members on their website.
00:59But that is a whopping 40% off in about 10 months.
01:03And it's a similar story for the 65-inch model, £2,500 down to £1,500.
01:08Which makes a TV like this, which to be honest with you, I probably wouldn't give a second
01:12look at that original price, well, now, if you want a big TV with solid picture quality,
01:18all the smarts and streaming apps you could shake a stick at, ready for the summer and
01:22the World Cup later this year, well, it's definitely worth considering.

01:31As always though, all opinions are my own and I particularly wanted to make this video
01:34because it is all about getting the best value for money.
01:38I should say though, if you are interested in maybe buying this TV or just finding out

01:45But what makes this stand out?
01:46Well, first of all, LG's QNED stands for Quantum Dot Nano Cell LED.
01:52So it's building on their nano cell tech by adding a quantum dot layer, which boosts
01:57the brightness and the colours, and also adding mini LED backlighting.
02:01Now I'm sure by now you're pretty familiar with mini LED TVs, but the idea is that we
02:06have thousands of LEDs lighting or backlighting the panel, whereas on a regular LED LCD, you
02:12have a few hundred.
02:14We also have hundreds of dimming zones with this, again, far more than a regular full
02:18array backlit TV.
02:20And so altogether, it's a pretty big upgrade.
02:23The higher contrast, the higher brightness, peaking at a thousand nits, and also we get
02:27less blooming and overall a more uniform picture.
02:30Now of course, this still can't match the self-lit pixels of an OLED TV and their near
02:35infinite contrast and super inky blacks.
02:38You can see in these super dark images that there is still some blooming and light bleed,
02:42but this is still a big step up over traditional LED TVs and even their older nano cell TVs.
02:48And particularly in HDR, whether it's a TV show, a movie, or you've got your PS5 or your
02:52Xbox hooked up, the picture on this thing is stunning.
02:57In dark scenes, you can of course tell it's not an OLED.
03:01And actually, if you are interested, a 77 inch LG C1, again, last year's model costs
03:06about 300 more than this QNED, however, as well as being more expensive, it does not
03:11get as bright.
03:13And so if you are using the TV in a bright room, or if you are an idiot like me and
03:18putting the TV opposite a window, then that extra brightness is definitely going to come
03:24in handy.
03:25The only downside to this TV, and it is not unique to this TV, but as you can see, it
03:29is quite reflective.
03:31So keep that in mind when it comes to where you're going to place your TV.
03:34Speaking of which, while you can wall mount this if you prefer, I am using the stand.
03:39And as you can see, with this 75 inch model, even the bigger sizes can comfortably fit
03:44on pretty much any TV stand.
03:46And also, it sits high enough that there's room to put a soundbar underneath the screen,
03:50although it will need to sit on top of the two feet that protrude out the front.
03:54Around the back we have four HDMI ports, two of which are the latest and greatest 2.1 spec,
04:00which gives you up to that full 4K 120 support, and one of these also supports eARC if you
04:05want to hook up an external soundbar or speaker system.
04:08The TV's built-in speakers are fine, but don't skimp on the sound.
04:14LG do offer a good range of soundbars, although personally I use a Sonos ARC.
04:19Now the first thing I recommend doing when you've got your TV set up is to check that
04:23you have the latest software, and then I would suggest going into picture settings and turning
04:27off the motion processing and also dropping the sharpness boost feature thing down to
04:32zero.
04:33We get the usual range of picture modes, but genuinely I stick to ISF Expert Bright or
04:38Dark depending if, well, if I'm watching in the day or at night, but it will automatically
04:42switch to HDR, Game Optimizer, or Filmmaker modes depending on the source, so you really
04:47don't need to worry about it.
04:49Powering everything is LG's Alpha 7 Gen 4 AI processor 4K, again just rolls right off
04:55the tongue there, and that handles all the 4K upscaling and AI picture and sound modes,
05:00which you can actually turn off if you want, although I like to keep them on.
05:03It's funny, if you'd ask me like five years ago, what's the biggest TV you'd ever have
05:07in your house?
05:08I would say, well, maybe 55, 65 inches at a push, but no bigger than that, it just gets
05:13ridiculous.
05:14I've got a 75 inch here, there's a 77 inch in my actual living room as well, and now
05:18anything smaller feels too small, it's weird how we just get used to things getting bigger.
05:23Although I should say, if you do want a bigger model, there is an 86 inch version of this,
05:27which is frankly just ridiculously huge, which is also 8K and you get more dimming zones,
05:32so it is a higher end model.
05:34Now for gaming, this checks all the boxes, 4K, HDR, 120 Hertz, HDMI 2.1, and that's
05:41along with low response times and low input lag, auto low latency mode, and also VRR or
05:46variable refresh rate support.
05:48And also thanks to a recent update for the PS5, it now also supports VRR like the Xbox
05:53does.
05:54And actually in games that properly support it, like Spiderman Miles Morales, we're basically
05:58getting an uncapped frame rate, which is a pretty huge deal and does go some way to take
06:02advantage of the TV's 120 Hertz refresh.
06:06I do have one issue with this TV though, going back to the full screen home dashboard and
06:12actually even just navigating to the menus, all can feel a bit slow.
06:15And actually it is something I've found is much faster on the newer models with the new
06:19Gen 5 processor.
06:21It's not exactly the end of the world, but it can get a bit frustrating.
06:24I think for most people, the 65 inch version of this is probably going to be the one that
06:28you'd want to go for.
06:29It is a fair bit cheaper at £1500 and also, well, less massive.
06:34Now obviously this is not the only TV that is going to be discounted.
06:37They all get cheaper as the months go on and particularly around Black Friday and big sort
06:42of holiday seasons.
06:43But if you want a big, bright TV with a good picture quality that's great for gaming and
06:48well does everything you need, I reckon the QNAD 91 is definitely worth considering.
