00:00Shall we do a little battery test now that we've got a new iPhone 16?
00:03Well, I've got together pretty much all the flagship phones out there
00:07There are of course many more but I've got 13 phones there including the new iPhone 16 16 Pro and Pro Max now
00:13Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the 16 plus in time for this video
00:17I'll have to make another battery test in a few weeks
00:19But I want to see a how they compare to last year's
00:2215s with the regular 15 the pro and the pro max and also the current Android competition
00:26Although of course these will be updated soon with the snapdragon 8-gen 4 chip as well as the new MediaTek Dimensity
00:329400 we're expecting so some of these Android phones are due a refresh soon
00:36But we have also just had the new pixel 9 Pro XL with the Tencent G4
00:40Obviously, there are quite a lot of variables here. We've got different screen sizes different chips different battery sizes and
00:46Even though I'm making this in the second half of 2024
00:49We've still got some 60 Hertz phones courtesy of the iPhone 16 and also the iPhone 15
00:55Anyway, all phones are set to their default settings in terms of resolution and refresh rate. All screens are set to 150 nits
01:01We're running on Wi-Fi only and the latest software available to the phone as I'm recording this and kicking off with half an hour of
01:07YouTube I'm gonna do 30 minute increments of a variety of different apps now
01:11Of course your usage will vary based on what apps you use what signal you have whether you have 4g or 5g
01:17This is just to give you a bit of an idea how the phones compare and I just want to see in this particular test
01:22Which one lasts the longest and particularly with the new iPhones which Apple's say not only are a big boost
01:28But actually the 16 Pro Max should be the longest lasting iPhone
01:32They've ever made which is a pretty big statement, but then it's also a pretty big phone
01:36It's 6.9 inches the new 16 Pro Max the biggest iPhone ever and so they've also been able to squeeze in the biggest battery
01:42A couple of things to point out

01:44I do have the Vivo x100 Pro and not the ultra which actually is a slightly newer higher-end phone with a bigger battery 55
01:525400 million power cell, however, the pro has the MediaTek chip the diversity
01:573300 which in my tests and lots of other research I've done actually performs much better for battery life
02:03So for this battery test, I'm using the pro now
02:05I'm also very interested to see how the pixel 9 Pro XL
02:09Competes fares against the competition here because historically the pixels have been pretty rubbish consistently finishing back of the pack
02:15So I'm hoping with this year's more efficient g4. It's gonna be a bit more competitive
02:19We're also gonna have to see how the upcoming Apple intelligence with iOS 18.1 and 18.2 will impact battery if at all
02:26Also, we've got Android 15 right around the corner surprisingly this year
02:30It didn't launch as the new pixels came out
02:32so both Android and iOS are due updates and also as I say we're gonna get new chips from both snapdragon and MediaTek in not
02:38too long
02:42Okay, I'm gonna stop here just for a second because at a two and a half hour mark as we're approaching
02:471130 at night last night. I actually want to do an overnight standby test
02:51See how much each phone drops in terms of battery overnight. Unfortunately, my just my camera decided to stop recording for those last five minutes
02:58I did still make a note of each battery. So what you're seeing on screen is correct
03:02So let's use our imagination to pretend that I'm now going to bed and I will pick this up in eight hours time. Good night

03:13Morning that was seamless right 730 in the morning and we're seeing a fairly consistent
03:173 4 5 ish percent drop across the phones the pixel seemed to be the worst there
03:22losing 6% the Vivo the best losing just 2% after 8 hours and
03:27I think we're already beginning to see the pack separating one plus the Vivo out in front still on green
03:33Everything else is in the yellow territory now
03:35But let's switch over to Netflix
03:37Which actually is quite difficult to test with this many phones because the account kicks me out
03:41But I can play different trailers and I can tell you now these videos are absolute pain in the backside to make because you really have
03:46To baby them if you just walk away for five minutes a screen will go off something won't play correctly
03:52You just have to be basically staring at a white desk and a group of phones for
03:56Well, you'll you'll see the number of hours at the end of the video, but it's a long bloody time

04:08Drop a comment as well now you will be right to say that this isn't fully indicative of battery life in the real world because
04:14We're not testing the modems the networks with 4g and 5g
04:17But there are so many variables that have to get 13 different e sims and also my signal here in my house is actually pretty
04:23Awful, so that's not really gonna work for this test
04:25But certainly you will probably drain your battery a little bit quicker out and about as you're pulling mobile data from the sky
04:32As I mentioned earlier it is frustrating that the base iPhones are still 60 Hertz now
04:36I don't want to drop all the other refresh rates down to 60 because that's not how people use them
04:40Also, we have dynamic refresh rates these days
04:42So actually if anything sometimes it can be an advantageous to have the higher-end screen
04:47But certainly in games that do support 120 Hertz like War Thunder
04:50I'm actually gonna stick them back to 60 Hertz just to make it a bit more of an even keel
04:56I'm gonna use a nautical palm there
04:58What is interesting though?
04:59Is that the iPhone 16 with its new a 18 chip can actually offer higher graphic settings than last year's 15
05:05Although, of course, you're still stuck at 60 Hertz
05:07Now as we approach the 5-hour mark and speaking of performance
05:11Let's just jump into a quick Geekbench test and feel free to pause the video here if you want to look all the different numbers
05:16But essentially the iPhone 16 pros with the new a 18 Pro and impressively the Vivo actually beats most of these
05:22Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones particularly in multi-core while also at this stage at least having the most battery left as well
05:28That's very impressive for MediaTek. I feel like they don't get enough love but place your bets

05:34Tell me what you think will be the top three winners out of these 13 phones
05:44All the iPhone 15 pros not looking too hot 4% left and
05:49Yeah, there we go at 8 hours and 11 minutes we have our first loser the iPhone 15 Pro
05:55Loses 8 hours 11, which is fine. I mean, these are all good battery lives. It's all relative between them
06:01I guess I thought it would do a little bit better
06:02I suppose it does have a more powerful chip and also the 120 Hertz screen
06:07Versus the regular iPhone 15 which isn't far behind and there we are just shy of 20 minutes later in half hours
06:14the regular iPhone 15 dies leaving the only remaining iPhone 15 series the Pro Max on 10% with the
06:2116's not too far behind there
06:24I should have said this in the beginning but all iPhones have a hundred percent battery health
06:27None of these phones have been used for more than a couple of weeks all under 50 cycles of battery because I want you know
06:32Full battery capacity, but also you having used them for a little bit because often the software can optimize the battery
06:38Three iPhones down nine hours six minutes for the 16 Pro
06:42Which lasts almost a full hour longer than the 15 Pro, but now we're over nine hours
06:48They're gonna start dropping like flies and following the iPhone 16 Pro literally a couple of minutes later
06:54We've got the Xiaomi 14 ultra which actually goes in a kind of hibernation mode, which would last forever
06:59But if you restart it and then doesn't turn back on it's like a super low power mode
07:03Three minutes later we lose our first non iPhone the Xiaomi which is pretty good two minutes later nine hours and 11
07:12I love that color that ultramarine iPhone 16
07:14I would almost always be tempted to buy that rather than one of the pros and then
07:20S24 ultra look at that three minutes longer than the iPhone 16. That's
07:26Incredible actually a I thought the S24 would last longer but be the iPhone 16's are keeping up with these big dogs
07:33Good on the pixel as well it didn't come last and actually it hasn't proved
07:36I've noticed it's a little bit since I did my review a couple of weeks ago
07:45For phones left
07:46They've all got a little bit left in the tank actually until then the one plus 12 kicks the bucket at 10 hours
07:5251 over an hour and 10 longer than the oppo which was the last one to die before it
07:58So certainly one plus the honor the Vivo and the iPhone 16 pro max are in a league of their own above everything else
08:04And then about 40 minutes later the iPhone 16 pro max is out of juice leaving two phones left
08:11I think we can pretty confidently say which one's gonna win here because we'll see how long it takes
08:16For the honor to drain that last 1% of battery again like the oppo it just lasts and lasts and lasts 11 hours
08:2333 minutes another 40 minutes over the one plus and that gives us our winner
08:28Vivo x100 pro with the Dimensity 9300 chip
08:32It's fantastic, and I can't wait to see what media tech do with the 9400 and obviously we have to see how long it takes
08:37Until it finally dies
08:3912 hours and 22 minutes so there we go top three iPhone 16 pro max
08:44Then the honor magic 6 pro then the Vivo x100 pro all
08:48Fantastic battery lives. I mean they all did really really well
08:51You're not gonna have a bad time with any of them equally amazing though is how the new 16 pro max lasted about two hours
