00:00The MMDA will implement the Mall Hours Adjustment in Metro Manila from November 18 to December 25.

00:07This is part of their efforts to avoid heavy traffic during the upcoming holiday season.

00:13Patrick De Souza has the details.

00:18Can you feel the heavy traffic?

00:21It's been more than two months since Christmas, according to the MMDA.

00:25In EDSA alone, 421,000 vehicles pass each day during the month of September.

00:33That's higher than 399,000 in the same month in 2023.

00:39According to the MMDA, this is the effect of the holiday rush.

00:43Before Ondas, it will be heavy.

00:46Then after Ondas, it will go straight until Christmas time.

00:51The MMDA and mall operators agreed to implement the Mall Hours Adjustment in Metro Manila from November 18 to December 25.

01:02The opening of the malls will be held at 11 am.

01:07The closing time will be decided by the mall operators.

01:11There are more than 100 malls in Metro Manila and 20 of them are within EDSA's reach.

01:18During the peak hours, there was a slowdown.

01:25With this program, the number of vehicles was not reduced, but it was spread over a longer period of time.

01:36It's better to buy a gift earlier because the mall sale is prohibited from November 18.

01:44We are supporting whatever MMDA is requesting from us, sir.

01:49Most likely, the bonuses are released before November 18.

01:55All of our sales are prior to December.

02:00And recognizing as well that the bonuses are released prior to November 18.

02:07The MMDA will discuss with the Department of Transportation if it is possible to extend the operating hours of EDSA Bus Carousel, MRT and LRT

02:17so that mall employees and other commuters can be serviced.

02:22According to it, the mall delivery will be allowed every 11 pm to 5 am,

02:29except for perishable goods.

02:31There will also be a moratorium on excavation activities, but flagship government projects and emergency repairs are exempted.

02:39MMDA traffic personnel's duty is extended until 12 pm.

02:46And on a case-to-case basis, if a minor traffic violation is detected.
