00:00A couple of interesting things there.
00:05The story of what's wrong with them.
00:09And then the kid that you're talking about, the Russian from the Flyers that Mishkov that
00:18he's a stud, but that you were talking about how in Russia, in the K, because of the war
00:25in Ukraine and because everyone has banned them from being in international competitions
00:31and everything else that they're saying, OK, we can play that game, too.
00:35How about you're not having any of our players play anywhere in the NHL or otherwise?
00:39What is going on there?
00:41Yeah, Russia used to be, you know, obviously, we grew up in an era where Russians couldn't
00:46play in the National Hockey League, right?
00:49For people that are younger don't realize, you know, there was there were no Russians
00:52in the league and it didn't start to happen until the 80s and then, you know, the flow
00:56into the 90s.
00:58But yeah, because of the geopolitical stuff going on, Russia cut off from the international
01:02sports world.
01:03They became the KHL, which is their professional league.
01:07They used to be more open to, you know, playing the KHL for a year and go like they didn't
01:12mind because it made Russian hockey look good.
01:14All their players in the NHL now they're like, why are we providing talent for countries
01:19that hate us, in their opinion, right?
01:22And so they they tightened up letting players go.
01:26So yeah, this long story short, this Mishkoff guy that the Flyers got, I bet him to win
01:30rookie of the year.
01:32He's not a lock to win.
01:33He was the favorite to win.
01:35But the thing with Mishkoff, he's sort of like a basketball player, Scott, that's coming
01:38over from Europe that already played in the Euroleague, you know, like it's is it a step
01:44up playing in the NHL a bit.
01:46But he's not coming from the Gulf Storm, bro.
01:49He's not coming from the Minnesota Golden Gophers, right?
01:52He's coming from the KHL.
01:54He plays for Russia.
01:55He's playing the KHL has a lot of, you know, a lot of former NHL guys, a lot of good Russian
01:59players, obviously.
02:01So he's played in a in a in an elite hockey league as a young as a kid already for so
02:08and he's already proven he can play against men.
02:11So showing up in the NHL, he's going to have a little bit less of a learning curve, his
02:14learning curve.
02:15And he scored two goals last night, guys.
02:17So he scored his first two goals of the season last night against the Oilers, sort of his
02:21coming out party for him, Scott, has been his biggest learning curve will be dealing
02:25with Tortorella.
02:26Right.
02:27Tortorella is, you know, Tortorella is a hard ass, so he's going to have to play at both
02:31ends of the rink.
02:32He can't coast around when he doesn't have the puck, otherwise he won't get ice time.
02:36But so far, so good.
02:37Tortorella loves him.
02:38The Flyers love him.
02:39Like I said, he delivered last night.
