00:19it's a lovely winter day here in northern Virginia and the Nichols
00:22family thinks it's not cold enough we are going to Alaska we're gonna be
00:28camping ice fishing it's gonna be pretty awesome

01:21well it's 2 30 in the morning Anchorage time that makes it 6 30 in the morning
01:26Virginia time but we made it we are going to get some sleep and I will see
01:33you in the morning we've slept like a total of maybe four hours but we're off
01:43and Melanie's up too and it's an exciting new day and we're gonna have
01:48fun while the highlights well I anticipate us doing some serious winter
01:52camping so I had a bunch of reindeer hides shift to Melanie's house that I'm
01:56excited to go test them out we walked next door to grandma grandpa's house and
02:00the boys are getting their groove on to some Bon Jovi
02:09is that cozy three degrees Fahrenheit outside let's go get some winter clothes
02:17shall we all right if you need serious cold weather gear especially in big boy
02:24sizes this is a great place to go
02:31got myself a set of negative 40 boots got these insulated pants here to go
02:35under your bibs all right guys we bought out half the store we are so geared up
02:40well we did some shopping now we need to get some lunch so we're here at the fire
02:43tap and we're gonna get some food for Becca and for the boys you guys hungry
02:49oh look at the size of that pretzel mustard and cheese all right Nate you're
02:56true Alaskan you're gonna run barefoot through the snow just to avoid having to
02:59put shoes on cold feet cold feet nice thing about the winters is you get long
03:09nights and lots of time to cuddle up as a family and spend some time together
03:13next morning well it is a brisk negative six and we're heading off to
03:19church got the kids loaded up and this car may never warm up it's so cold
03:27you guys ready to go to cold church we're driving back home from church and
03:32there's a big old moose on the side of the road
03:37those things would kill you over to grandma's house we're having an army men
03:45battle here okay I got the stealth fighter yeah you took out my rifle man
03:52oh that destroyed so many brave young men I love it I've got my full parka on
03:59and the boys are donning ski goggles to go visit my grandpa
04:07Oh Tommy you're getting so big well it's 430 so the Sun's setting time to go get
04:29some dinner well we've had a great time visiting with family but we are so tired
04:34the jet lag is caught up to me so it's like 9 o'clock I'm going to bed I'll see
04:40you guys in the morning all right we got ninja Tommy and Nathan we are dressed up
04:45for walking out to the warm car
04:48you excited for some regular sausage but we're gonna go in the garage here and
05:08we're gonna make a rocket stove and I've got to go and sharpen up the axe here a
05:13little bit before I go camping tomorrow I got a big birch log here we're gonna
05:16turn this thing into a rocket stove so we can cook some trout on it while we go

22:35To me it smells like a cooking oil
22:37With a little bit of seafood in it
22:39You got a chunk of dried seal meat there

22:45And it's dried not smoked right?
22:47No it's not cooked it's dried

22:59Kind of rehydrated in my mouth a little bit
