00:27in the world since 5.4 million citizens are in crisis and half of the population suffers
00:33from hunger.
00:37And the National Federation of Secondary Education Teachers in Uruguay has gone on a 48-hour
00:43strike to reject the government's education reform and budget cuts.
00:52Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
01:16Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General Shaikh Naeem Qassem denounced that Israel intends
01:20to control the world through an expansionist project in the Middle East.
01:24During a speech, Naeem Qassem assured that Hezbollah is still strong despite the attacks
01:29received by the Israeli regime.
01:31He also indicated that they are regaining their strength and rebuilding a new organizational
01:36structure.
01:37Qassem warned that Israel is betting on crime under the absolute protection of the United
01:42States and will take an official position on the matter.
01:45Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General affirmed that the resistance will attack the Israeli
01:50occupation army, its operation bases and barracks until a ceasefire is reached.
02:02Israel is an expansionist occupation that is not satisfied with Palestine.
02:06It wants the whole Arab region.
02:08It wants the whole Islamic landscape.
02:10Rather, it wants to control the world based on its...
02:15In addition, the Hezbollah's Deputy Secretary General assured that the United States is
02:19also responsible for the crimes orchestrated by Israel.
02:27This means that the United States and Israel carry out together these acts of genocide
02:32and this ongoing crime in Palestine, Lebanon and the region, and the U.S. gives Israel
02:37free rein to do whatever it wants with all the military, political, media and international
02:42capabilities exercised by the United States.
02:44This means they are partners in what they want to achieve.
02:47We are facing a new threat in the Middle East, Israeli-U.S. style, at the hands of
02:52the Israeli criminal, the sponsorship of the great satan.
02:59Meanwhile in Lebanon, an airstrike by the Israeli regime killed four members of a family
03:04early on Tuesday morning in the south of the country.
03:08The attack was carried out in Harboa city in the Ignim Al-Tufa region against the victim's
03:13house in Al-Shara'iq neighborhood.
03:16The air force of the Zionist occupation of Israel intensified its aggressive escalation
03:21in the south of the country, causing serious damage to the infrastructure, including the
03:25Al-Murtada hospital, which was put out of service.
03:34As Israel's aggressive escalation against the Palestinian people continues, the death
03:38toll has risen to more than 42,344 and some 99,013 people have been wounded.
03:46The figure was reached during the last 24 hours when the Israeli occupation forces carried
03:51out an attack where 55 Palestinians were killed and 329 wounded.
03:57Health authorities indicated that most of the victims were women and children.
04:02In addition, local media reported that the Israeli occupation forces continue to obstruct
04:07the movement of ambulances and civil defense teams, blocking the access of medical emergency
04:12services, which could cost the lives of the wounded.
04:21Russia's permanent representative to the UN Security Council, Vasily Nebensia, accused
04:26the West of double standards when he condemned the arrest of UN employees by the government
04:32of Yemen, while looking the other way about killings in Yemen, Gaza and Lebanon by the
04:37Israeli forces.
04:39The Russian representative pointed out that the West ignores the dozens of assassinations
04:44committed by Israel against UN employees in Gaza and the attacks against its officials
04:50in Lebanon.
04:51Nebensia recalled that the arrests of the UN representatives by the ruling Ansar Allah
04:56movement in Yemen were made on charges of involvement in acts of sabotage and espionage.
05:03In this regard, the Russian representative emphasized the need for the West to reject
05:08any act of civil arson against representatives of the UN, including the actions of Israel
05:13against officials in Gaza and Lebanon.
05:20Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the Israeli attack against UN peacekeepers
05:27troops in Lebanon.
05:28During a Senate session, Meloni described the Israeli attack against the United Nations
05:32Security Mission as unjustified and pointed out that it represents a violation of United
05:37Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
05:42The attack took place on Sunday when Israeli tanks reportedly forced their way into one
05:47of the gates of the United Nations Mission in southern Lebanon.
05:50The incursion happened after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United
05:55Nations Mission to evacuate its troops from the area.
05:58Prime Minister Meloni also informed about her plans to visit Lebanon, while Foreign
06:03Minister Antonio Tajani will travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories.
06:12On Tuesday, the United Nations warned that the conflict-ravaged Gaza is facing the worst
06:17restrictions on aid since the Israeli genocide began over a year ago and its devastating
06:23impact on children.
06:25According to the spokesman for the United Nations Children's Agency, UNICEF, James
06:30Elder, day after day the situation for children becomes worse than the day before, as Israel
06:36has been intensifying its operations in the north of the besieged Palestinian territory,
06:41where hundreds of thousands of people are trapped.
06:44Despite a desperate need to increase the amount of aid going in, the aid access is worsening.
06:50Last week, there were several days when no commercial trucks of any kind were allowed
06:55to enter.
06:56Day after day, the situation for children becomes worse than the day before, and that's
07:06going to continue so long as we see ongoing strikes and so long as we see now what is
07:12probably the worst restrictions we've seen on humanitarian aid.
07:16August was the lowest amount of humanitarian aid that came into the Gaza Strip of any full
07:21month since the war broke out, and over several days in the last week, no commercial trucks,
07:27no commercial trucks whatsoever were allowed to come in.
07:31So children now have multiple deprivations, having moved many times, now living in – 85
07:38per cent of the Gaza Strip is now under some form of an evacuation order, so now living
07:43in conditions that are essentially unlivable.
07:49In Spain, citizens mobilised to reject the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli regime
07:53in the Gaza Strip and to call for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine.
07:58Spanish social organisations gathered to demand a ceasefire and a long-term political solution
08:03to the Israeli war against Palestine.
08:05The gathering took place outside the European Union headquarters in Barcelona, where the
08:10demonstrators demanded Tel Aviv to take responsibility for its war crimes and crimes against humanity.
08:16Spanish citizens have repeatedly requested the government to put an end to the trade
08:21of weapons and military technology with the Israeli regime, as well as a rupture of diplomatic,
08:26institutional, economic, sporting and cultural relations with that country.

09:02Welcome back to From the South.
09:04The World Food Programme warned that Haiti faces one of the highest rates of food insecurity
09:08in the world since 5.4 million citizens are in crisis and half of the population suffers
09:13from hunger.
09:15According to a report of the United Nations programme, at least 2 million Haitians are
09:19living in an emergency situation and another 6,000 in catastrophic levels of famine.
09:25The report detailed that the citizens in emergency situations suffer from extreme food shortages,
09:31severe malnutrition and numerous diseases.
09:34Social organisations assured that $230 million are needed to implement assistance programmes
09:40to support the citizens affected by armed violence until the end of the year.
09:45On the other hand, the generalised violence in Haiti has caused the displacement of more
09:56than 700,000 people, half of them children.
10:00Many of the citizens have been forced to move to shelters such as schools and public buildings
10:05in the capital city of Port-au-Prince.
10:07These shelters, due to the high population and poor sanity conditions, are prone to the
10:12spread of diseases.
10:14At the Food and Agriculture Organization's Investment Forum 2024 held in Italy, Cuban
10:24President Miguel Diaz-Canel asserted that the U.S. blockade affects the Caribbean island's
10:29food security.
10:30Farmers and food are inseparable terms, and in the case of Cuba it is strategic for many
10:43reasons that do not end in a few lines.
10:46We live in a time marked by inequality and injustice in economic relations, where it
10:51is most cruelly expressed in the painful food shortages suffered by the largest majorities,
10:56including progress.
10:57In this vital area of this critical global picture, the state's left all over the planet
11:01by the two years of pandemic, with its impact not yet overcome in the supply chain, the
11:06dramatic effects of climate change on food productions in Cuba's specific case, the long
11:11and deep political damage of the blockade, worsens the economy as a whole with an emphasis
11:16on the standard of living of the Cuban people.
11:21In this context, President Diaz-Canel urged the international community to support Cuba
11:26and to consider it as a strategic partner for agricultural development and global food
11:30security.
11:31I thank you for the opportunity to participate in this forum, and invite you to consider
11:36Cuba as a strategic partner in a joint path towards agricultural development and food
11:41security.
11:43In Venezuela, from the mountain barracks in Caracas, President Nicolás Maduro led the
11:47ceremony for the handover of the High Command of the General Commands of the Bolivarian
11:52National Armed Forces Aviation Military Presidential Honor Guard and Intelligence Service.
11:58During the act of handover and acceptance of command of the Bolivarian National Armed
12:02Forces, the Venezuelan head of state expressed that the country is on the right side of history,
12:08assuring that the country has the military power it needs for its defense.
12:12He also congratulated the National Armed Forces for its work and results in the defense of
12:18the sovereignty of the Venezuelan territory.
12:20Moreover, President Maduro pointed out that in Venezuela there is absolute peace.
12:25I want to welcome and convey to all the military family of Venezuela, my recognition and my
12:39congratulations.
12:48We can say categorically, absolutely clearly, that Venezuela has a military power
13:01that defends it, that Venezuela has military men at the front of this beautiful battle
13:05of the 21st century for the powerful homeland.
13:16As Commander-in-Chief, with the example of our Commander Hugo Chávez and the military
13:29glories of our history, I have studied humbly to fully serve my country.
13:41As Commander-in-Chief, and every day I learn something from you, cadets, soldiers, officers,
13:47superior general staff.
13:52Members of the Colombian National Learning Service Union rallied Tuesday in Bogota in
13:57support of President Gustavo Petro amid investigations by the National Electoral
14:01Council into the head of state campaign finances during the 2024 elections.
14:06The demonstrators denounced the highest electoral bodies investigation as a coup
14:10attempt against the Colombian president.
14:13They also affirmed that the charges against the head of state are a violation of the
14:17country's constitution, since the electoral entity does not have the power to investigate
14:22the president.
14:23The demonstrators demanded that the will for change of the Colombian people be respected.
14:33The National Federation of Secondary Education Teachers in Uruguay has gone on a 48-hour
14:38strike to reject the government's education reform and budget cuts.
14:42As part of the mobilization, the union members occupied several learning centers in the Uruguayan
14:48capital, forcing them to suspend their classes.
14:51During the two-day strike, there will be mobilizations, internal assemblies and meetings
14:56with parents and students.
14:57A march along the 18 de Julio Avenue is also expected on Wednesday morning.
15:07Well, look, we have a very serious contradiction here.
15:09There is an ideological project, which means that the state is only responsible for the
15:14instruction or education of our young people up to the age of 15, above that age, thinking
15:18about high school.
15:20It is the responsibility of the family or the people themselves who want to study if
15:24this withdrawal of the state is in line with the withdrawal of the state from other public
15:27policies, particularly from the social law.
15:30This year we have seen how the Ayahuasca High School, an emblematic institution of the Uruguayan
15:34public culture, was dismantled.
15:36Today they are going to dismantle the Bausa High School.
15:39Another emblematic institution here in this area of the capital.
15:42It is the logic of restricting the possibility, not only of exercising the right to education
15:47not only in relation to high school, but also of limiting access to higher education,
15:52particularly to the university.
15:56At the moment, what we have is an act of occupation, which means that the occupation is
16:01legal.
16:02The police came, but only to receive the complaint.
16:06There is no intervention order for now.
16:09We are only occupying the place.
16:11At the time they arrive, we will evaluate the situation, the attitude of the police,
16:16and then we will see how we vacate the center.
16:38Welcome back to From the South.
16:58Russia warns of Western states' attempts to put pressure on Georgia's authorities
17:02and interfere in the election campaign, as the October 26th parliamentary polls approach.
17:07Moscow said it has observed open attempts by Western countries led by the United States
17:13to exert pressure on the authorities of Georgia and directly influence the course of the election
17:18campaign.
17:19In this context, the Russian government has also been emphatic in stressing that it does
17:24not meddle in any way in the internal affairs of its neighbor nation.
17:29Western countries toughened their rhetoric against Georgia after it passed a law in May
17:35for authorities to protect the country from foreign interference.
17:44South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff held an emergency meeting after reporting on condemning
17:49the destruction of connecting roads to the north.
17:52Although Pyongyang has not made any statement, it warned earlier that it would carry out
17:56this operation.
17:57The incident occurred after South Korean drones flew over the northern territory and dropped
18:03propaganda leaflets.
18:05In turn, the Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the DPRK Workers' Party Kim
18:11Yo-jong said that the overflight of drones in its airspace was equivalent to a declaration
18:16of war.
18:17The U.S. presence and its constant military exercises have led to increasing tensions
18:22in the area.
18:24In this context, the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning warned of the intensification
18:30of tensions in Asia and urged all involved parties to resolve their conflicts through
18:35diplomacy.
18:36Furthermore, the official shared Beijing's concern about the welfare of the region as
18:40China reassured its commitment to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
18:46We have noted the relevant situation.
18:49As a close neighbor of the peninsula, China is paying attention to the development of
18:53its situation and the dynamics of North Korea-South Korea relations.
18:56Tensions on the peninsula do not serve the common interests of all parties, and the priority
19:01is to avoid further escalation of conflicts.
19:03China's position on maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula and promoting a
19:07political solution to this issue remains unchanged.
19:10We also hope that all parties will make joint efforts toward this goal.
19:13On Tuesday, heads of state and top diplomats from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation
19:18Organization arrived in Pakistan's capital Islamabad to attend the 23rd summit.
19:23Participants believe the two-day summit will achieve positive results and provide more
19:28impetus to the security, stability and development of regional countries.
19:33Since the establishment of the organization 23 years ago, its member states have always
19:39adhered to the Shanghai spirit, continuously enhanced good neighborhoodliness and deepened
19:45cooperation in various fields.
19:47In this context, the Chinese Premier Li Xian, who is currently on an official visit in Pakistan,
19:53will reportedly attend the Council meeting, where the international community expects
19:58the organization to shoulder greater responsibility and achieve more practical cooperation outcomes.
20:05Every October 15th, the world community comes together to celebrate International Rural Women's Day.
20:14In recognition of rural women and girls' vital role in the development of the country,
20:20the International Women's Day is held every October 15th.
20:23This is a day to remember the hard work of the women and girls of the world,
20:27and to remember their contributions to the development of the country.
20:31In recognition of rural women and girls' vital role in global food systems,
20:36this year's theme, Rural Women Sustaining Nature for Our Collective Future,
20:40Building Climate Resilience, Conserving Biodiversity and Caring for Land Towards
20:45Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls, highlights their contributions from
20:49crop production to food distribution despite facing systemic challenges like unequal power
20:54and higher food insecurity. Rural women account for about 22 percent of the global population.
21:00The International Day of Rural Women, first established by the General Assembly in its
21:05Resolution 62136 of December 18, 2007, recognizes the critical role and contribution of rural women,
21:13including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development,
21:18improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.
