00:00House Committee on Appropriations Chairperson Elizaldi Ko has announced the small committee
00:05created by the House of Representatives has increased the 2025 budget proposal
00:10for social services and the country's food security.
00:14Representative Ko said the increase, amounting to over 293 billion pesos,
00:20seeks to address the pressing needs of vulnerable sectors including financially challenged students,
00:26farmers, fisher folk, soldiers, indigent families, and those barely above the poverty threshold.
00:33The House so long highlighted its importance and the new funding is on top of the 591.8
00:40billion pesos already set aside by the Department of Budget and Management or DBM
00:45for cash assistance to impoverished families. He also shared the key enhancements in the 2025
00:52general appropriations bill including the extra 39.8 billion pesos for the DSWDAICS
01:00program designed to offer immediate support to those facing financial hardships.
01:06Senator Tolentino said there should be more collaboration between NMIS and the Department
01:12of Health or DOH, adding that support from the Department of Science and Technology or DOST
01:19is also needed. The lawmaker also suggested an increase in the agency's funding and the
01:25country should strive to become a meat exporter like Chile and Argentina.
01:32The Bureau of Plant Industry or BPI and the Bureau of Customs or BOC seized a container van
01:38holding smuggled white onions worth 3.5 million pesos at the middle of South Harbor.
