00:22At the toss, the coin came down in the favor of the Pakistan skipper Shaan Masood who elected
00:26to have a bat.
00:30Four changes to Pakistan, they've gone in with a spin heavy side.
00:35The one change in the batting order, Kamran Ghulam makes his way in for Babar Azam, Noman
00:40Ali, Zahid Mehmood and Sajid Khan, the three spinners along with that of Salman Ali Agha.
00:47England also making two changes, the composition largely remaining the same that of the first
00:51test.
00:52Ben Stokes back in as England captain and one of the quick bowling all-rounders.
00:56The other change, that of Matthew Potts.
01:02Let's join the action with our commentators here on day one.
01:12With the changes England have made, which are Stokes and Potts in for Wokes and Atkinson,
01:18it's actually a very proud moment for the Durham County Green Club in the Northeast
01:24because it means that England's entire seam attack.
01:40Well unlike that horror dismissal that we showed you from the second innings of the
01:44first test, Saimi Ayub here just lets the ball come.
01:51He's played that quite late under his eyeline, whereas in the second innings of the first
01:57test he went at the ball early and scooped it in the air.
02:04Bull Toss put away into the gap for four, or maybe not, no it's gone for four, it's
02:11a long fence.
02:15This is an easy shot for the right-hander to execute.

03:03In the air, now has it carried, it has, Crawley diving forward, excellent catch because he's
03:12a tall man, and Crawley just got his fingers underneath that, two for Leitch.
03:19Shah Masood just going hard at it, he's pushed out in front, I don't think that the balls
03:25really stopped in the surface, just pushed it out, that is a terrific catch, diving forward
03:31and the field of position went straight to him.
03:35Jack Leitch, he has his second, Pakistan lose their captain.

03:54The first six of the game as well, he uses his feet really well, stays slightly leg side
04:01of the ball, and hits it straight, it will give him some confidence, Kamran Ghulam.

04:19There's not a lot happening, but it's another good over from Potts, none for nine from his

04:57it in time to get one more over in, he's strolled across, and a very delicate touch has just
05:06removed one bale, perched it on top of the stump, and announced to all and sundry out
05:12there that it is indeed time for lunch.
05:17Pakistan did well after recovering from 79 for two, both wickets falling to Jack Leach,
05:22that of Abdullah Shafiq and Shah Masood, Saim Ayyub 40, Kamran Ghulam 29, doing well as

05:32England started off with just five overs of seam, it was Jack Leach very quickly into
05:37the attack, and also picked up his two wickets.
05:41Both joined the action as Saim Ayyub and Kamran Ghulam make their way out post-lunch.

05:50With the toss-stop, Kamran Ghulam, well, he'll take all of them, he'll take four to end the
06:04over, it's 84 for two.
06:10That's the risk-reward, why hasn't Bashir been bowling that line?
06:15Because they feel you can get hit both sides, you can be slog-swept leg-side, so Stokes
06:20put a man there, but it also opens up the off-side.
06:22But he shouldn't be afraid of being driven, yeah, an all-rounder for the future there.

06:39done by Potts, who's run across from a long way, short and wide and cut away, and cut

07:39This has been a very well-made knock of 50 so far from Saim Ayub, his third in Test cricket.
07:49Very controlled, and innings, which was assured, Saim Ayub normally, quite a player who'd like
07:57to take the bowling on, has just reined himself in.
08:07He decides to go otherwise, Kamran Ghulam, one bounce over the ropes into the leg side.
08:14Well he missed it off the left arm spin of Leach, he absolutely nailed this, again bowling
08:20outside off opens up the offside, but it gives you a free swing of the arms, leg side, and
08:25he took that free swing.
08:34And a couple of lusty blows, Slogg sweeps, this one makes its way towards the boundary
08:39and gets to the boundary, so they're not going to allow England just to bowl that line and
08:44length, both are going to try and put the pressure back.
08:48Is a very good option, because it gets it well away from the way the two men in the
08:53deeper position long on, and a deep square leg.
08:57Head down, hands through the ball, going with what little spin there is.
09:05Does get it past Pope, and goes to 50 on debut, the 41st Pakistan batsman to do that.
09:12What a morning he's had, gets his Test match cap, and now he salutes the dressing room
09:17for a small personal milestone.
09:19Yeah, his nerves were never frayed, he was not overawed with the situation, or the occasion.
09:28Came out very composed, showed a solid defensive technique, showed the ability.
09:36Oh, Stokes has read the game well, but that's been played beautifully from Cameron, played
09:44a couple of sweep shots that haven't been convincing, but that reverse was superb.
09:50Cameron Ghulam, is now prepared to take a few risks, and he's been rewarded with a boundary.
10:04Can't get that one though, it's just too wide, and that will go away, down to the boundary
10:08for four byes, goes against Jamie Smith.
10:10Lovely shot, he just, come down the track, and he wanted to hit straight, just got it
10:22slightly square of that, but it's gone to the fence, Ben Stokes won't be unhappy with
10:26it, but risk and reward.
10:29It's becoming a little predictable from England, the ball not really turning a great deal,
10:36even though the stats suggest that there's more turn in the second session compared to
10:43the first one.
10:47Edged away, no slip, no second slip, and this trickle away to the fence, and boundary to
10:58the slips, Stokes just creating something.
11:02Well that is the perfect illustration of the difficulties Stokes provides to the right
11:07hander when the ball starts to just swing for him.
11:11Wider the crease, falling away, arm beyond the perpendicular, so the right hander thinks
11:16everything is coming in.
11:21And again the outside edge found, it goes straight to ground, and goes down to third
11:26to the fence.
11:29You'd say Stokes has looked as threatening as any bowler today, certainly any seam bowler.
11:35The ball is definitely just moving a touch in the air, it's very dangerous to the right
11:41handers when that is the case.
11:42He's beaten Cameron twice on the outside edge, got one edge that would have gone to slip
11:48had there been a slip in place, and now another edge, albeit all along the ground for four.
11:56Edged away, flays away at it, no third, so that'll fetch another boundary.
12:02And it's been clipped nicely, it's in the gap, and that'll roll away to the fence, the
12:11timing's very good.
12:14One boundary of an outside edge, the other was balled on the pads, an easy shot for Saima

13:20for that exact shot, he stands in disbelief, he's fallen into the trap, but after a well

13:53for Saeed Shaqeel, and to close, Stokes is over route with a boundary, also to take us
13:59to lunch, to tea.

14:06Yeah, that was a very good delivery.
14:10Yeah, Saeed Shaqeel had a shimmy down the track to be able to deal with that reverse
14:16swing going, only managed an edge, and he's off the mark.
14:21Yes, Pakistan has lost a set batsman in this session, but they did a good job with that
14:30big partnership.

14:44An all spin show so far, it was Matthew Potts who was brought back into the attack to pick
14:48up that third wicket for England.

15:09Well down the pitch, attacking from a position of strength, it would seem.
15:17Quite cleanly struck, but certainly got enough on it.
15:21Sprung a surprise suddenly out of the crease and hitting the ball through the offside.

15:38You're not going to be challenged by the shorter length on a surface like this.

15:52That's great bowling from Brydon Karrs, great persistence, and that edge luckily for England
15:58carried through.
15:59But I have to say, Jamie Smith was very sharp there.
16:03Yeah, it was a good pacey delivery, 140 clicks, a lovely channel and ball shaping away and
16:12a great catch because you're not expecting ball to come at that pace and that bounce.
16:18Probably undone by the ball that hit him on the shoulder.
16:22He's got to get his batting sorted against quality pace, South Shaquille, plenty of talent
16:27against spin.
16:29Maybe he needs to up the ante against pace.
16:32And after scoring four, 178 football.

18:37He had a point to prove and he has proved it to the selectors and his teammates
18:42that he's good enough to be there.

18:51Now the slog sweep comes the other end.
19:05So it looks like they want to go after Bashir.
19:08They've seen off the reverse swing. It's been tricky scoring.
19:12But Bashir into the attack and straight away Rizwan plays that slog sweep.
19:17And this line will give a lot of freedom to Rizwan who's been struggling
19:22to imply that stroke.
19:26And again, Long Long tries to get round.
19:31And he can't cut it off. Four more. Rizwan on the charge against Bashir.
19:38Well he's found himself with an opportunity.
19:41It's been a bit of a battle for him so far.
19:44But with this line, the ball's not turning dramatically.
19:49Just a little bit. He is going with what little turn there is.

19:59He swept well throughout his innings and once again manages to find the fence.

20:23when he was bowling with a harder ball.
20:34A little loppish but he'll get runs. If they run quickly it could be three.

20:53He did that well even with the new ball the first time round.
21:03And the pitch. Goal missed.
21:05Now he's bowled in actually. I thought there was a stumping chance

21:14And an innings of great skill comes to an end.
21:20Cameron Goulam stuttered ever so slightly on that occasion
21:26and had to pay a big price. Missed the ball completely.
