00:00A very warm welcome once again to the Multan Cricket Stadium here for Day 2 of the first
00:15test between England and Pakistan.
00:19So Chakil and Naseem Shah, the two men walk out into the middle with Pakistan at 328-4.
00:27England bowlers hopefully well-rested after a hard toil on Day 1, they'll come out.
00:32It's one apiece to leech and walks with Gus Atkinson will start the day with two wickets.
00:38Let's join the action now here on Day 2.
00:49It is one of those discussions that comes around every time and there are hard-liners
00:53say there's no way you should have a night watch.
00:55I used to play with a fella called Jonathan Agnew.
01:12Putting in demanding.
01:13Yeah, I think the main thing is if you're not on strike.
01:23And they were not alarmed at all, stepping out of the crease as well.
01:29Still a few heavyweights left in the cast, next to bat Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha.
01:35Amir Jamal can bat as well.
01:39Yeah, not going hard after that one, just dropping his wrist, making sure that even
01:45if there was an edge, it didn't carry, which was the end result on that occasion.
01:54Would they like to clean up Nassim Shah as quickly as possible?
02:03Gets an edge, gets some runs as well, probably four, it's the new ball, may just carry to
02:07the fence, it does.
02:10So the frustration continues for England.
02:12Nassim Shah is still hanging in there.
02:23Such a contrast, isn't there, watching Nassim Shah at one end and Sal Chakil at the other.
02:30Who've been performing very well, one is Sal Chakil, the other one from Sri Lanka Kamendu
02:37Mendes in no time after his debut, got to 1,000 runs.
02:46Oh, hits him, where's one?
02:58Hit him right on the helmet.
03:03The ball just doesn't get up and then you've got nowhere to go.
03:06That's a nasty blow.
03:08He looks okay, thankfully.
03:10But there was a bouncer earlier on, very early in the day when he looked discomforted.
03:16So you can see why England want to go at this line of attack now.
03:22Down the track, hits it over the top, Nassim likes it and it's gone all the way.
03:31Well if he's going to get peppered at one end from Gus Atkinson, he's probably saying
03:36to himself, I'm going to enjoy my time against Shoei Bashir, which will open up the opportunity
03:42for Bashir, who in the English summer took a five wicket haul in a game against West
03:47Indies at Trent Bridge and that was on the back of some very fast bowling at the other
03:51end.
03:52Oh, sweep shot and that'll race away to the fence, a very composed, a very structured
03:59innings from Saud Shaquille yet again, gets to his seventh Test Match 50, likes playing
04:06against England, his fifth here and also in Multan, third one in Multan, Saud Shaquille
04:14carries on.
04:17Down the pitch, way, way over deep mid wicket, will it go all the way?
04:22It does.
04:23He's in a slightly different position than yesterday, off the fence, but this is well
04:30over long on, it's a lovely swing of the bat and it is fully committed.
04:41Does come down and he does show that he can go in to out over the offside, he's got that
04:46shot in his repertoire.
04:47And the best for me by a distance, that's a wonderful shot, encouraged to play it because
04:48Pope has brought Chris Wokes up from long off into the circle, oh, hold the pose, that's
05:00fantastic.
05:07It works, eventually they get Nassim Shah, it's a edge into leg slip and Harry Brook
05:13obliges.
05:14Brighton Cars now has his first international Test wicket, it took a long time but England
05:19now have five.
05:20When he got an LBW given against Shaan Masood but was then overturned, so he's had a long
05:26wait to pick up his first Test wicket, it's a moment that he would have dreamt about,
05:32maybe he might have hoped for a slightly better batter than Nassim Shah for his maiden wicket
05:39but he'll take whatever he can get.
05:45That's another one gone, as simple as you like, Leitch has two and Rizwan walks back
06:04for nought.
06:05He was about a half way back and between them Leitch and Pope, motion Wokes in, get tight
06:10on the one.
06:11And that encouraged Rizwan to come down, he got too close to the ball so he couldn't get
06:17the elevation that he wanted and offered a simple catch to Chris Wokes, so a second for
06:23England this morning and Pakistan not yet out of sight, they're 3.93 for six now with
06:29Rizwan a big wicket to fall.
06:35He does take it on and he takes it on quite well and he'll pick up a boundary.
06:40Leading down the leg side has just helped on its way and obviously he'll get underneath
06:47it, he won't want to keep it down.
06:55No damage done for Pakistan that is, 112 overs done and it will be lunch at Pakistan
07:03397 for six.
07:10A slightly subdued session one here on day two for Pakistan, England however picking
07:14up the two wickets, Pakistan scoring it also dropping to 2.65.
07:18The two wickets to fall that of Nassim Shah for 33, he had a few good hits out in the
07:23middle but Rizwan the big wicket went for naught, so Shaquille remains unbeaten at
07:2867 and will start lunch with Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan 397 for six.
07:35A couple of wickets more for England in that first session, Brydon Carrs with his first
07:40international test wicket, that of Nassim Shah and Jack Leach picked up Mohamed Rizwan
07:45to have two to his name.
07:47Action begins here post lunch on day two.
07:54Tossed up, beautiful start, in to out, nice way to get off the mark, 400 up for Pakistan.
08:05Here's a positive player, Salman Ali Agha, he's a very competent batsman against the
08:14spin, saw a bit of flight, got to the pitch of the ball and knew where the gap was.
08:21And he's off the mark.
08:27My point has always been that he allows that pressure to be released when the men are in
08:30the deep unnecessarily.
08:32That's a great shot, that's someone taking advantage of that and saying yes I'm prepared
08:37to take the risk.
08:39You contrast that with Rizwan's dismissal and you take your pick, but this is beautifully
08:45struck.
08:50Maybe a sign, they just had a chat at lunchtime and said look we can't plod along, we need
08:56to get 20 wickets out there.
09:02Hard sweep and there's no one out there, definite signs after lunch that Salman's going to play
09:08shots particularly against Leach and spin.
09:14Every shot he's played so far against Leach has been high quality.
09:21With the sweep shots into the field as it's set.
09:26Just has to make sure of course he doesn't get it behind square.
09:31Goes again, there's no one on the leg side, Wojtz tries to get round and there is no doubting
09:38that one.
09:39It was the bin that was in play.
09:42I have to score, Balcomar runs against this baller.
09:47As a batsman you have to target one baller in the line up and it's Jack Leach for Salman
09:53Ali Agha.
09:54He's got plenty already against him.
10:03Well it's a good battle and it's a battle that Salman Ali Agha is winning at the moment.
10:09He's injected some acceleration into this innings.
10:13Immediately after lunch, tucking into Jack Leach, almost cost him his wicket.
10:18Down at long off where Wojtz almost took a brilliant catch but he's right on top of the
10:23left arm spinner.
10:24Right now.
10:29A beauty, a beauty from Bashir.
10:32Who has not been at his best in this innings but has produced a good one now to get rid
10:37of Saud Shaquille.
10:39Wonderful line and length coming into pitching on or around.
10:43No, not really.
10:44He's not turned the bat face.
10:47That's a very, very fine delivery from Shoaib Bashir.
10:51He's played beautifully and he's gone for 82.
10:53Pakistan 450 for 7.
10:55Pakistan 450 for 7.
11:01Carved away.
11:05He will turn, look for 3.
11:10Right in cars to continue.
11:11He did pick up his first wicket.
11:15That of Nassim Shah with that strangle down the left side.
11:20He had a close call which was reviewed by Shaan Masood just pitching outside left stump
11:24earlier in the day, yesterday.
11:28Oh, big shout, big shout.
11:30And he's been given.
11:33Has been given.
11:34Right in cars, has to.
11:37With immediate effect.
11:38We'll also have a look.
11:40He has reviewed this one.
11:42Original decision is out.
11:44Pitching outside off.
11:45Impact is in line.
11:47Wickets, umpire's call.
11:49Kumaar will get you back on screen.
11:50You can stay with your original decision.
11:51Hop out.
11:53Now he received confirmation very quickly.
11:54Get on screen.
11:55Umar Dharmasinha again raises his finger just to confirm that was hitting the stumps.
12:01Umar Jamal goes for 7.
12:02Pakistan 464 for 8.
12:11Takes it on.
12:12Puts the dancing shoes on and times it well.
12:15Salman Ali Agha picks up a boundary to close the over.
12:19Showing intent.
12:20Salman Ali Agha put the right option.
12:22He tried it a couple of times in this over.
12:24But this time around.
12:26It's a win.
12:31Big shout.
12:33Well, sort of big shout.
12:34It was nearly a big shout.
12:35Then it wasn't a big shout.
12:38Row 1, fist 50 for Salman Ali Agha.
12:43Ooh, a bolt.
12:44Just a little bit of turn.
12:45But he's pushed it away.
12:46That will be the 50.
12:48Comfortable too.
12:50As it runs away down towards a sort of wide-ish third.
12:55So 51 for Salman Ali Agha.
12:57He's played very well indeed.
12:58Took the initiative straight after lunch.
13:03Working out how to bat with the lower order.
13:05It's his 8th 50 in Test Matches.
13:07His third against England.
13:09And his first in Multan.
13:13That's an option.
13:14That's a very, very good option.
13:16With just those two men on the offside.
13:21Bashir had thrown the last one a long way down the left side.
13:24This is just a little bit straighter.
13:27Just straight enough to get the reverse sweep into action.
13:33And that was the option.
13:34To get it on the offside.
13:37Wouldn't be a cricketer.
13:39The reverse sweep is part and parcel of.
13:44The way you play.
13:51Well that's sweet.
13:53That is very sweet.
13:54One bounce.
13:55Two yards in from the rope over long off.
13:58Bashir just gave him enough room to get the shot in.
14:01He did.
14:02And it was much more controlled because of that reason.
14:05One, to start the over.
14:07He didn't get in a decent balance or position to hit it.
14:10This one.
14:11Look at the balance.
14:12Look at the balance.
14:17Orthodox sweep gets away.
14:19Placed nicely between the two men in the deep.
14:21And with enough of it to reach the boundary.
14:25Only gives chase but had no chance.
14:28Yeah we saw this earlier.
14:29How low his hands get.
14:31How horizontal his bat gets for the sweep.
14:33Gets in a great position.
14:35Look at that.
14:36Even though it was full it was almost a Yorker.
14:38Because his hands are low and his bat is horizontal.
14:42Gets it right in the middle of the bat.
14:44And sweeps it beautifully away.
14:52Well that's gone.
14:54That's gone into big wide empty space.
15:00Yes another four in quick succession.
15:02One thousand runs now.
15:04Reached by Salman Ali Agha in test.
15:06Bashir hits out of the milestone for him.
15:09Just the cleanness of the strike he's had to behold.
15:14Goes offside when he comes down the track.
15:17Offside of the ball to be able to access leg side.
15:26It just seems as easy as anything.
15:29Almost wherever the spin or scene is directed.
15:34He finds a way of finding the boundary.
15:37We've seen a few minutes ago we were talking about the 50 man mark.
15:42And whether Shaheen Shah will start playing some shots.
15:45He's quickly moved on to 76.
15:47He may be thinking of 100.
15:49Well Shaheen's not had the strike.
15:52He's played it perfectly.
15:53Since lunch he's got the tempo of his knock spot on.
16:01Well that's given him the opportunity.
16:02That was just the right length for Shaheen Shah.
16:07Just the edge.
16:10This is what he can do so well.
16:18Good solid block from Shaheen Shah.
16:20Freedy the umpire calls time for tea.
16:24And that is another excellent session for the home side.
16:30The side that have lost their last five test matches.
16:33And went into this test match lacking confidence.
16:36Well they've shown a lot of skill.
16:38A lot of flair.
16:42Pakistan walk off post lunch with 515 on the board.
16:46With a loss of 8 wickets.
16:48So Shaquille the 7th man to go for 82.
16:51And Amir Jamal also for 7.
16:55A couple of more wickets to England.
16:56As they take 8 off Pakistan.
16:58Who's Brydon Kass his second international test wicket.
17:01And Shoaib Bashir with his maiden wicket so far in the series.
17:07Even off rate.
17:08First test against Bangladesh.
17:10448 played 565.
17:13And we still got a result.
17:16Credit to Pakistan for making dull cricket into exciting cricket.
17:20That's lifted out.
17:23He's been really good for those with those lofty shots.
17:26Didn't really make it to the fence this time.
17:29But he's got a lot of confidence.
17:31He's got a lot of confidence.
17:33Didn't really make it to the fence this time.
17:36But they're not afraid of plucking players that they see have a bit of potential.
17:41A smash into the fence for 4.
17:50Gives himself room.
17:51And he does enough.
17:52Enough to get it over the infield.
17:54All fielders up.
17:56They are asking him to hit over the top.
17:58And he obliges.
18:00Easier take for Shahinshah Afridi.
18:03This is glorious.
18:05This really is massive from Salman Ali Agha.
18:08Yet to pick up those two charges at long on and long off.
18:13And he did that so well.
18:17He is quite brilliant.
18:18Especially at the number that he comes out with.
18:20The rate at which he scores his runs.
18:22And then the shots that he executes.
18:25Afridi goes for a big shot.
18:28Clears the fence for 6.
18:36No Pakistani you can bet.
18:40Shahinshah Afridi loves to bat.
18:42And can hit the ball a long way.
18:44And does well.
18:46Comes down the track.
18:48Opens up that space to swing through the line.
18:51And he gets 6 as well.
19:21The ideal strike way to continue Pakistan's success to this test match.
19:51Salman Ali Agha got to that 3 figure mark.
20:01And once he did it, it didn't take long.
20:05One foot down.
20:06Big swipe across the line.
20:08Hits middle half way up.
20:11Jack Leach now has 3.
20:14And is that after Shahinshah Afridi.
20:169th wicket to 4 for Pakistan.
20:1826 he gets.
20:21Down the pitch.
20:23Mid-on and mid-off.
20:24Try and get there.
20:25It will beat both of them.
20:30There is the bouncer.
20:31And he's got a wicket with the bouncer.
20:34Now is Ducky okay?
20:35Has he just dislocated a thumb or something?
20:38The last ball of the innings in the opening batsman.
20:42Cops one on the left thumb.
20:44It's a very sharp chance.
20:46Very sharp bouncer for a spinner.
20:48He's guided it as if it's slip catching.
20:50It's right on the end of the thumb.
20:54Pakistan's first innings finally coming to a close.
20:57With a mammoth 556 on the board here on day 2.
21:01Another century to that batting column.
21:03That of Salman Ali Agha.
21:05104 not out.
21:07Wickets shared all around for the England bowlers.
21:10Jack Leach leading that column with 3 wickets.
21:12Brydon Carson and Gus Atkinson with 2 apiece.
21:15And 1 apiece for Wokes, Bashir and Jorut.
21:19Let's join the action for the England first innings.
21:23Zach Crawley to face the first ball of England's innings.
21:33Hint of swing in.
21:34Hint, yeah.
21:35And a perfect line and length.
21:41Opens the face and as you often get with Zach Crawley.
21:44Off the mark with a boundary.
21:464 for none England.
21:50Again it's that full delivery you associate with Shaheen Shah of Freedie.
21:53Certainly early on in his spell.
21:57Crawley just opens the face quite a lot actually.
21:59There is a lot of room through that point region.
22:05Ball now as he pulled off Astana.
22:07He has pulled off an absolutely brilliant catch.
22:12Ahmed Jamal at mid wicket.
22:14What a grab that is.
22:19Pulls it away left side.
22:22And suddenly it is Ahmed Jamal.
22:30Holy Pope there thinks forward.
22:32Then time stands still as Ahmed Jamal just plucks it out of the sky.
22:38That is fabulous fielding.
22:40Fabulous catch.
22:41Just the start Pakistan wanted.
22:43Not the start England wanted.
22:45Not their captain.
22:49Punched on the up.
22:50He has punched so hard the sweeper can do nothing about it.
22:53Cracking shot from Zach Crawley.
22:57This back of a length.
22:58He is still coming forward at it.
23:00Such a tall man.
23:02Not much bounce in this pitch.
23:04Right on the top of the bounce that there was.
23:06And that has raced away.
23:11Nice off drive.
23:12He has had a cover drive that went for 3.
23:14Now an off drive that finds the boundary.
23:20There is quite something to watch when he is in sync and on song.
23:24And that is more often than not.
23:28Finds the middle of the bat this time.
23:30And the man out is very square.
23:32So Crawley picks up a boundary with a thumping drive.
23:36It is very reminiscent of the ball that he hit in the Ashes series a couple of summers ago.
23:43And he started the series with a shot just like that.
23:47If ever there was an example of taking a good delivery out of your system and just focusing on the next one.
23:55It was that.
23:59And again to the right of short extra cover this time.
24:02Two thumping drives from Crawley.
24:05The second one to finish the 7th over.
24:11Crawley determined not to let Abrar settle.
24:14Down the pitch the previous ball defending but down the pitch with intent this time.
24:21He is not a big spinner of the ball.
24:23So once you line him up like this.
24:26So you can play through the line.
24:32Wallop again.
24:34No man out.
24:36Crawley ticking along very nicely now.
24:40Oh no.
24:42Positive again this time off the back foot.
24:46With the ball being relatively hard still.
24:49Just 11 overs old.
24:50That will go for 4.50 up for England.
25:01Once again nicely played.
25:02Extremely well controlled by Jourou to pick up 4.
25:06Classic Jourou.
25:07The only sub-console.
25:09The mountain one anywhere in the world.
25:14Brilliant.
25:15Extremely good use of the feet and hit it to the absolute best area straight back past the bowler.
25:21Zach also picks up another boundary.
25:28Punched off the back foot.
25:32Punched for 4.
25:33This is brilliant from Zach Crawley again.
25:36So tricky to bowler because he's at you and he's got a long reach.
25:39So you just draw your length back a fraction.
25:43And he'll hang back and punch you.
25:45The pitch is so good.
25:50Turned away.
25:51Next side timing again very good.
25:53And that'll race to the fence and also bring up Crawley's 50.
25:57It's been fabulous watch so far.
25:59As always classy shots to the fence.
26:02His 16th Test Match 50.
26:06He's been very much in control.
26:10Very fluent.
26:15This one just pumped away.
26:16Next side slightly shorter.
26:18And it's picked up beautifully.
26:21That's the other ability that he has against the quicker bowlers.
26:28Solidly forward is Jourou.
26:30And that will be the end of the day's play.
26:35England 96 for 1.
26:36This partnership 92 after that early scare with a fabulous catch.
26:41Amir Jamal at mid wicket.
26:43It's been all good from England.
26:45Especially Zach Crawley.
26:47Who's been able to find the fence at well 11 boundaries in his 64.
26:56England end the day's play at 96 for 1.
26:59Top scorer Zach Crawley remains unbeaten at a runner ball 64.
27:03Jourou alongside 32 not out.
27:05The one wicket to fall that of the England captain Olly Pope who went for not.
27:10Pakistan using 4 bowlers in the first 20 overs.
27:13The one wicket taken by Naseem Shah that of Olly Pope.
27:16Match summary so far here at the end of day 2.
27:19Pakistan with a massive 556 in that first innings.
27:23England in pursuit 96 for 1.
27:25They trailed by 460.
27:27Hope you've enjoyed the highlights.
27:28We'll see you tomorrow.
27:33You
