Israeli Airstrike Hits Majority Christian Village in Northern Lebanon

More than 20 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a majority Christian town in northern Lebanon, prompting Hezbollah to fire rockets at Tel Aviv as Israel’s multi-front war continues to escalate.

00:10At least 22 people were killed, and that number is expected to rise,
00:15with many still trapped under the rubble.
00:20The target of the strike is unknown,
00:22but the small village had an influx of displaced residents from southern Lebanon,
00:27where for the last month, Israeli forces have been bombing what they claim are Hezbollah sites.
00:34Hundreds of Israelis were sent into air shelters as the armed group responded by firing three rockets at Tel Aviv.
00:40That attack intercepted by Israel's air defence system.
00:44But the Iron Dome failed to prevent a Hezbollah drone attack on a military base in northern Israel two days ago,
00:50which claimed the lives of four soldiers and critically injured at least seven more.
00:55Speaking from that base, the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
00:59vowed to push forward with their war against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
01:12His comments as Israel expands their ground operation in southern Lebanon.
01:16The country is facing international criticism for injuring at least five members of UNIFIL,
01:22the UN's peacekeeping mission there.
01:25Italy, the UK, France and Germany released a joint statement condemning Israel's repeated attacks on the soldiers,
01:31while the EU appealed to Israel to comply with international law.
01:55Netanyahu rejected accusations troops had deliberately targeted UN peacekeepers
02:01and repeated a call for UNIFIL forces to be withdrawn from combat zones.
02:06Israel is also facing international pressure against their continued bombardment in the north of Gaza.
02:12According to the Gaza Health Ministry, in the past 11 days, at least 300 people have been killed.
02:19An Israeli airstrike on a school claimed the lives of at least 22 of those, including five children.

02:29in the intensifying Israeli campaign in northern Gaza,
02:33including its schools displacing sheltered Palestinian civilians.
