00:00In Nikopol, a Ukrainian city just five kilometers from the Russian-occupied territories, drone
00:08and mortar attacks have become part of daily life.
00:15But despite the danger, this team of engineers goes to work every day to repair local power
00:20lines damaged by shelling.
00:28The area is a little dangerous.
00:30A lot of drones fly by.
00:32We've almost been hit more than once.
00:36Is it important to move fast?
00:40Preferably.
00:41They are heading to an area on the coast of the Dnipro River.
00:47The opposite bank, occupied by Russia, is in full view.
00:53They are met by local resident Lyudmila.
00:56She looks after the houses on her street now that most of her neighbors have fled.
01:01But there's almost no house left intact here.
01:04The closer to the shore, the greater the level of destruction.
01:13This was one of the rooms, here.
01:15It was very close to the edge, just one small step away from the water.
01:19Oh, it's starting.
01:24Is it coming this way?
01:27Let's go, quickly.
01:28As often happens, work on the power lines is interrupted by the nearby drone attacks.
01:33It feels like you're sitting and waiting for it to hit you.
01:39No, you're praying to God for it not to hit you.
01:45As the immediate threat dissipates, the engineers return to work.
01:50The residents here have been without electricity for a third day.
01:55And after a short while, the lights switch back on.
01:58It is working again.
02:01Oh, thanks.
02:02It's nice to give people light.
02:05And if we don't do it, who will?
02:08Lyudmila says she's become used to the sounds of explosions.
02:13Her own backyard has been hit six times in two years.
02:18It's scary, scary.
02:21But this is home.
02:22I'm my own boss here.
02:24I don't want any help.
02:25I just want there to be peace as soon as possible.
02:33What can I say?
02:35But as the attacks from across the water keep coming, the prospect of peace seems a long
02:40way off.
