00:00:00As the teams prepare to do battle a final look at the teams and Tonga have
00:00:07kept a fairly stable unit throughout this World Cup and again not many
00:00:10changes today there is a new halfback though and Ngawhai Tupui but the forward
00:00:14pack remains pretty much intact with the formative loose forward trio of Losei
00:00:18Afiaki and the captain Mana Otai and the coach have had some dreadful injury
00:00:28worries in this competition and their two key players Dali and Sonoto are not
00:00:32in the starting lineup today although rather strangely they are on the reserve
00:00:36bench the side has displayed growing confidence and key players to keep an
00:00:40eye on include Toussaint Jeyi in the front row, the tall likes Bardo and Kone
00:00:43the men close to the scrum Dupont and Kamara
00:00:52and a look at the two replacement the replacements for the two sides and just
00:00:57have a look there on the Ivory Coast side Dali and Sonoto are both in the
00:01:01reserves and really they are the key players for the Ivory Coast they have
00:01:05both suffered injuries but rather strange to see them sitting on the
00:01:08reserve bench for this final game for them in Group D
00:01:16Don Reardon of the United States is the referee to his left is Ephraim Sklar
00:01:22from Argentina to or to our right in fact is Ken McCartney of Scotland, Don
00:01:28Reardon of the United States doing his seventh international today we'll look
00:01:32after this match between Tonga and the Ivory Coast. Well Manus Ramirez the smallest
00:01:39number of registered players in the competition in the Ivory Coast is the second
00:01:43number fourth over 2,700 so we've seen here really the 12th seed and 16th seed playing
00:01:52so almost set to go now Tonga and Ivory Coast Don Reardon of the United States
00:02:04just checking with the Tongan side and away we go in this Group D match the
00:02:11final game of the World Cup for these two sides Tonga wearing the white strip
00:02:14today have taken it in the first touch goes to Nafe Tufui the new halfback
00:02:20and we go to the first line out of the game Nafe Tufui coming in for Manu
00:02:28Vunipola who was ruled out through injury
00:02:35and Oki Athiaki at the back wearing the number seven jersey for the Tongan team
00:02:42Tonga has early success in the lineup but the referee has the whistle and the
00:02:50ball was not thrown in straight so Tonga have an opportunity to feed a scrum
00:02:56well I make the Tongan scrum the way in at about 870 K's which makes it one of
00:03:01the bigger packs in this competition the Ivy Coast to Ivory Coast scrum comes in at
00:03:04about 840 K's scrumming is a strength of Tonga we should see them dominate this
00:03:08phase quite comfortably straight again for Tufui to push the kick down on the
00:03:17blind side beautifully taken in by Max Brito he's the left wing three-quarter
00:03:21for the Cote d'Ivoire and the first penalty of the game is awarded to the
00:03:26Ivory Coast just inside their own 22 good work by Max Brito who came in as a
00:03:32replacement in the first match and already we have an injury worry and it
00:03:38may well be the man who took the ball in you see it is number 11 Max Brito
00:03:42taken in quite a heavy tackle and they really have had terrible injury problems
00:03:48at this World Cup yes well they've lost their two key players and certainly that
00:03:52doesn't help in your seat at number 16 but Tonga has also got some problems with
00:03:56that they changed their coach six weeks ago after a rather poor Super 10 if we
00:03:59have a look at their results in the Super 10 they lost to the Free State 15-12
00:04:03they lost Auckland 37-25 they lost to Queensland 32-20 then they had a
00:04:08horrible day at Christchurch and I've beaten 75-5 by Canterbury and I think
00:04:12that precipitated the Tongan rugby union changing the coach let's have a look and
00:04:17see if we can pick this up it looked like a fairly regulation tackle but
00:04:21Brito well he tried to lift his head up and took the full brunt of the Tongan
00:04:25attack as they came through and he looks to be in considerable trouble does Max
00:04:31Brito and referee Don Reardon looks as though he's calling for the stretcher so
00:04:36this is a sad blow for the Ivory Coast team in the very first couple of minutes
00:04:42of this game
00:04:45well it could well be that Atanasi Dhali may well come into the game
00:05:01in fact it's Thierry Kiwami who is coming onto the field
00:05:08well they had about three or four players replaced in their previous match
00:05:16against France when they performed so well let's just see if we can pick it up
00:05:21again Brito took it in quite strongly went down there Zafeaki made the tackle
00:05:27now look as he tries to lift his head and the Tongan pack comes crawling in
00:05:31over the top
00:05:38of interest in the for the Tongans with the small number of players they've got
00:05:41the Tongan islands are small group of islands in the South Pacific they
00:05:44don't have a big economy and many of their players have to leave to go to
00:05:47Australia and New Zealand to find jobs and to work and with ten players in this
00:05:52squad in Australia and six in New Zealand the Tongan side has really been
00:05:55had a fragmented build-up to the competition of interest we've got
00:05:58players of Tongan descent who are currently playing for other countries in
00:06:03the World Cup we have Willie Ofangawe who's playing for Australia we have
00:06:06Jonah Loma of Tongan descent who's playing for New Zealand and recently Manu has been
00:06:11called into the Australian side so you can see the Tongan talent is spread far
00:06:15and wide basically because of economic necessity
00:06:25so a worrying time for Claude Azur the Ivory Coast coach he co-coaches with
00:06:31Dominique Devanier and a worrying time to lose Max Brito in the very first
00:06:39minute of the game the players have to try and remain focused here and they no
00:06:44doubt be distressed at what they see Laurie is a doctor of medicine maybe you
00:06:48could explain to us the reason for this particular sort of stretcher well they
00:06:52seem to have mobilized a cervical spine and certainly got a rigid stretcher so
00:06:56there's obviously some damage to the either cervical spine or somewhere down
00:06:59the spine and that's a worry he seems to have moved his feet so I don't think
00:07:03there's a major problem there but obviously he's in some degree of
00:07:05discomfort
00:07:12always a distressing time when a player is stretched from the field and so Max
00:07:18Brito leaves the field his replacement is out there
00:07:20Thierry Kuami and it rather knocks the stuffing out of the game early on we've
00:07:26only been going for a couple of minutes and we've had this lengthy hold-up
00:07:36so play resumes now we've still only had a couple of minutes as I say no score in
00:07:40the match
00:07:46and in fact Laurie it can affect both sides really that sort of thing can't it
00:07:50yes certainly if someone that takes a terrible injury in the game your
00:07:53concentration does work to wax and wane a little bit let's hope the man's not as
00:07:57bad as it appears initially
00:08:02Alfred Oku at the back of the line out for the Ivory Coast beside him is
00:08:06Afiyaki. Afiyaki is a tall player an easy jump for him but the referee says not
00:08:11enough of a gap there there is an Oki Afiyaki a New Zealand based player
00:08:15plays in Wellington and he'll provide excellent height near the back of the
00:08:22line outs for the Tongans
00:08:26well it looks like we're going to get a goal kick early on here from Victor
00:08:29Kouassi
00:08:34not too far away from halfway so then you can see it it'll be a kick of a good
00:08:3950 meters as the infringement came at the line out
00:08:47well the referee pulled him up for closing the gap but certainly from the
00:08:52advantage of having a retroscope and sitting at this side of the field it
00:08:54seemed to be rather a harsh decision against the Tongans. Well it was
00:08:57originally given as a free kick now maybe one of the Tongans said something
00:09:00to referee Reardon and he turned it into a penalty because of course you can't
00:09:04kick directly for goal from a free kick so Victor Kouassi first chance of the
00:09:10match
00:09:16always heading out to the right so the first opportunity is not taken by the
00:09:20Ivory Coast and the score remains at nil all
00:09:31the man who'll be kicking or trying to kick the goals for Tonga Seteke Tui
00:09:35Pilotu. Kick charged. Opportunity here for Ivory Coast getting back in cover
00:09:43defense very quickly by Samana Mapilio and this will be a five meter scrum
00:09:49some quick thinking there although the Ivory Coast player did appear to charge
00:09:54over the 22 so seven minutes gone no score
00:10:02Frederic Dupont and he put it under his own hoof his feet so another free kick
00:10:08given. Referee Reardon certainly asserting his authority early in this
00:10:12match. Well that's the first time I've seen that ruling this World Cup it may
00:10:15have taken place but generally the referees I think have been looking at
00:10:18the scrums as just a means of getting the game restarted and to have a ruling
00:10:22where putting under the feet is a rather inconsistent ruling and certainly it
00:10:27will need to be cleared up amongst the referees
00:10:48Apiaki snaps it up for Tonga. Good charge by Enoki Apiaki. 10 metres up from the 22
00:10:54and another penalty
00:11:00I think it's just a little testy in there
00:11:09Enoki Apiaki. In fact that is Enoki Apiaki. Willie Lose is wearing the 6 jersey
00:11:16today for Tonga. Apiaki a little bit slow to get up. Well Ivory Coast have
00:11:22been known from time to time for their lack of discipline. In fact it's the only
00:11:25World Cup game ever to be called off or abandoned through through aggression
00:11:28violence was their trial match against Morocco on the 1991 World Cup
00:11:34elimination series. Now they call for a head high tackle so the game just
00:11:41stuttering along at the moment now the Tongans get an opportunity with Apiaki
00:11:44five metres on the Ivory Coast side of half way. Taken out quickly by Tufui
00:11:50away for Dunipola. Good charge here from Manorotai the captain. Up for fail
00:11:58Dunipola the hooker. Now they're starting to open the game up a little the Tongans
00:12:04and it looked like another head high tackle
00:12:08this time made by Samoile Okone and they don't want to test the patience of
00:12:15the referee for too long as the penalty goes to Tonga in a kickable position
00:12:21well of the two sides I think in fact I'm sure Tongan plays the more
00:12:25structured football. They've had quite a conservative approach to rugby over the
00:12:28years. They tend not to spin it as wide and as quickly as perhaps Manasamoa
00:12:32Fiji wish to do. They tend to try and keep it tight drive up the middle use
00:12:36their big forwards and their big loose forwards. Cote d'Ivoire on the other hand I
00:12:39haven't really been able to work out any type of structure or pattern to their
00:12:42play. They tend to obviously be battling for first phase possession and because
00:12:46they're not quite sure whether they're going to win their ball or not they
00:12:49just seem to be going along and playing the game. Obviously that's not going to
00:12:52get far at this level of rugby and I think we'll see that if these head high
00:12:55tackles continue and the aggression continues Tonga will tighten the game up
00:12:58they'll keep it tight they won't want to mix it out there with illegal tackles
00:13:02and it will cause the Ivory Coast to commit these errors and obviously kick the goals
00:13:16First penalty attempt today for Seteke Tuipulotu for Tonga and that is
00:13:23straightened through and Tonga lead by three points to nil over the Ivory Coast
00:13:32The restart for the Ivory Coast just makes it for 10 meters and it's in fact come from the
00:13:54Ivory Coast and here's the big man J.E. hard man to put down he's the star of
00:13:58their forward tack reaching in and grabbing at Dupont they like to run with
00:14:03the ball good surging run here from Oku
00:14:09and the hurry clearance made by Uruwai Nuku but the coach of our coming back
00:14:21very quickly reply to that penalty goal by Tuipulotu
00:14:28as Willie Losei with the clean-shaven head towards the back of the
00:14:36line-up called it at the team late
00:14:40plays for North Harbour in the New Zealand competition
00:14:47Oku's made a pretty good start that was a good surging run once again except he
00:14:51lost the ball in the tackle Alfred Oku number seven
00:14:58Tonga team very disappointing the other night against Scotland they lost their
00:15:08discipline amongst other things they lost the game as well
00:15:12and referee Reardon handing out a lot of penalties early on yes but I think it's
00:15:17fair to say we saw a tremendous commitment and intensity in their first
00:15:20game against France they held the French to a six-point spread with 20 minutes to
00:15:23go before Barletti Mahoney got ordered off and then they lost a little bit
00:15:27losing by a large score but really the intensity and commitment that first game
00:15:31was superb and at one stage there it looked like was going to be the first
00:15:34major upset of the World Cup
00:15:42good jump there by Murphy for in fact it was Latukepu for Tonga and yet
00:15:51another penalty this time it's against number six Patrice Pair who was offside
00:15:57coming around the side of the rack so this is Alesi Vunipola one of three
00:16:06Vunipola brothers in this Tongan World Cup team
00:16:15well he's only 23 years of age now Alesi Vunipola
00:16:21now his brother Feo Vunipola
00:16:31I'll be looking towards Apiaki all day one would imagine near the back
00:16:35considerable height advantage for the Tongans
00:16:42trapped in the back by Manarotai now Vunipola a little kick in fact it was
00:16:47by Nuku the left winger who made the kick mistake inside the 22 trouble here
00:16:53referee playing an advantage Vunipola loves it away for his brother Alesi
00:17:01Vunipola Tui Pelotu the fullback was in
00:17:09and the referee played a long advantage there Don Reardon and he has got the
00:17:18Ivory Coast for offside and this is another shot at goal for Seteke Tui
00:17:23Pelotu yes a surprising decision by the referee to allow the advantage to run
00:17:27that long when you're in a game like this where you've got you know a lot of
00:17:30aggression a lot of high tackles and basically a pretty bustling type of
00:17:33scrappy game it's important for the referee to stamp his authority on it to
00:17:36let the players know where they stand and that illegal tactics aren't going to
00:17:40be allowed and certainly in that situation after he allowed the play to
00:17:43continue the Ivory Coast chaps were offside and and almost tackling high
00:17:47again so I find it surprising the referee wasn't a little bit more
00:17:50authoritative in that situation
00:18:06Tui Pelotu pushing to the side this time so it was average at the Rugby
00:18:25World Cup was quite low as you saw there 30% and it remains Tonga 3 Ivory
00:18:31Coast nil
00:18:38the game rather disrupted by that early injury to Max Prito
00:18:45Ivory Coast losing their first match by 89 to nil over Scotland improving
00:18:51considerably in the second to be beaten 54 points to 18
00:18:54Manarotai the Tonga captain
00:19:02bustling play by the Ivory Coast players Afiaki is number seven for Tonga now he
00:19:07sets it for Tui Foe oh that's a bad pass across to Tui Pelotu opportunity for
00:19:12Jean Satik ball control lacking from both sides as in the end Tevita Vainuku
00:19:20crashes in
00:19:22the latest news we understand on Max Brito that he has been taken by
00:19:33helicopter to hospital at this stage he has no feeling from his head down so
00:19:38certainly await developments there on Max Brito stretch it from the field at
00:19:43just the second minute by Uwuni Paulo leading the charge for the Tongans
00:19:52and yet another penalty by John Reardon and certainly the early stages of this
00:20:03match have been dominated by the whistle from the referee and the penalty against
00:20:08this time Edward Angaran the hooker for Ivory Coast
00:20:23well not electing to kick for points this time the Tongans through Alessi
00:20:30Vunipolo the kick to a field position
00:20:44that's a very high penalty count for the first 25 minutes or so of this match
00:20:53Oh
00:20:58by Uwuni Paulo
00:21:03again looking for the tall timber down the back falls nicely for Tui Foe, Uwuni
00:21:08Paulo it is the extra man again as Tui Pelotu the fullback whipped out again
00:21:13now a change of direction by Uwuni Paulo mana otai away for Tevita Vainuku
00:21:20and not able to get the pass back in field but the Tongans really threatening
00:21:25now the Ivory Coast line. This is the first time we've seen the Tongan backs
00:21:30move the ball without some error unforced error coming in and showing
00:21:34they're showing the right option taking and a high level of ball-handling skills
00:21:37this is more what we expect from the Tongan side. Big scrum here for the Ivory
00:21:46Coast. Taken out nicely by Frederic Dupont the most accomplished little
00:21:52halfback and well cleared
00:21:58like most of these players he plays his rugby in France plays at Nîmes
00:22:17Pavalo Latukevu well picked up by Tui Foe. Dropkick from Uwuni Paulo and Lisi
00:22:25Uwuni Paulo and in fact the referee's gone back as the dropkick went away to
00:22:34the left and has decided on a free kick closing the gap too quickly but under
00:22:41the old laws of course Uwuni Paulo could have had another dropkick here but that's
00:22:46not permitted. Now it's away to Uwuni Paulo inside to Willie Losei that's the
00:22:54goal line in the background now the big prop for Talakai. There's been some
00:23:00solid defense here from the Ivory Coast but again they've killed the ball on the
00:23:04ground and just repeated infringements Tongans have taken it quickly they're
00:23:09going to go for the seven-pointer instead. Afeyaki yeah it's going to be a
00:23:12penalty try this time well the referee Don Reardon has had enough constant
00:23:18infringing from the Ivory Coast and from that penalty five meters out the referee
00:23:24has awarded a penalty try. Yes I think that's the correct decision he's
00:23:28established his authority on it. You'd have to say that the Ivory Coast is certainly playing with a lot more
00:23:32vigor and a lot more intensity than we would have expected before this game and
00:23:37they've certainly developed as a team over this competition their first light
00:23:40game to Scotland was a shocking loss yet they played much better against France
00:23:43and today they're certainly doing well against the Tongan side which seems
00:23:46perhaps just a little bit off the pace at this point.
00:23:53Well referee Reardon there having an opportunity to speak to the captain and
00:24:00he's just told Jean Satik the captain that unless they approve he'll just keep
00:24:05penalizing for the entire game.
00:24:12Yes that certainly was a vital try Namibia were the favorites to come to
00:24:15the Rugby World Cup and they took the Ivory Coast rather too lightly they
00:24:19played six or seven of their reserve players and got beaten.
00:24:35So the penalty try is converted by Satiki Tuipulotu and Tonga lead by 10
00:24:44points to nil.
00:24:53Let's have a look here Afiaki took it no way the Ivory Coast players were back
00:24:57at 10 meters and the referee who's been blowing his whistle for the entire game
00:25:02mainly against the Ivory Coast had had enough. Now the kick out taken by Alisi
00:25:10Vunipolo good run by the little fly half for Tonga now it's set for Tufui.
00:25:17The run in midfield made by Mofilio ripped out by Tufui for Afiaki.
00:25:27Prominent in the early stages of this game Noki Afiaki now Vunipolo back in
00:25:31position sets it up for Latukefu. The Tongan starting to play with a little
00:25:36more confidence now 10 meter line Ivory Coast territory and again it won't come
00:25:41out of there.
00:25:44Good crowd in an Olympic Park for this final match for these two sides at the
00:26:03World Cup. Tufui with the kick and nicely judged too by the little fellow
00:26:09Nafe Tufui having his first game at the Rugby World Cup. The Tongans though have
00:26:15got six or seven players Laurie who haven't been able to get onto the field.
00:26:18Yes they've got eight players that side have played every game in this
00:26:22competition and I think there are four players that haven't actually put their
00:26:25boots on at all.
00:26:39Knocked through the line up by Patrice Pierre number six for the Ivory Coast.
00:26:43Well they came to this World Cup they said it would be a learning curve and
00:26:48they would have been shocked by their first loss to Scotland by 89 points to
00:26:53nil. They certainly showed in the match the other night against France that they
00:26:57could become very competitive as a rugby force.
00:27:03Tufui away for Bunipola. Big left-wing three-quarter Tevita Wainuku sets it
00:27:11nicely. Willie Losey is number six over the 22-meter line. Again Tufui.
00:27:22Again it's Wainuku. Trouble here for the Ivory Coast. Wainuku finally taken with
00:27:28the goal line right there. Now Tufui.
00:27:35And the ball is killed once again.
00:27:41Things starting to get a little heated in there and I suppose the Ivory Coast
00:27:46players are getting frustrated by the number of penalties that they're
00:27:49conceding. They've conceded another one right on the line. Now the Tongans of
00:27:53course have got a few options here. They could put down a scrum perhaps.
00:28:01Our referee Reardon wants to have a chat here with Sarmalia Kone number five and
00:28:10he's also brought the captain Jean Sartic over. Most of these players speak
00:28:19French. So whether in fact Don Reardon is getting through to Sarmalia Kone we'll
00:28:24never know. But he has told him about use of the boot. Anymore off.
00:28:40So Tonga leading by 10 points to nil set up this move to Tufui. Up goes it to
00:28:49number four Pauvalu Latukefu and fairly feeble defense from the Ivory Coast but
00:28:55the big strong second rower from the ACT in Australia Pauvalu Latukefu gets
00:29:03the try which gives Tonga a 15 nil advantage.
00:29:08So the big man gets his first try at the tournament. They have a considerable
00:29:22weight advantage over the Ivorians. Another easy conversion for Sateke Tui
00:29:30Pelotu and Tonga have established a big lead already 17 points to nil.
00:29:36Well Tonga taking the right options here. They use their forward power. A structured
00:29:44move from a penalty and the weight and the size of the Tonga forwards crashing over for a try.
00:29:48They have to keep this game tight. There is certainly a lot of niggle coming in from the
00:29:54Kotoa-Ivoire side. I'm not certain why. Maybe it's a lack of discipline or a little bit of the
00:29:58French flair but certainly they've been guilty twice I've seen of putting the putting the boot
00:30:03a little bit in the wrong place. So I think Tonga must tighten it up, keep it tight, use their
00:30:08forward power, just drive it up the middle. Tonga get the ball back again it was the try
00:30:13scorer Latukefu up for Afiaki and the Kotoa-Ivoire will finally be able to feed a scrum.
00:30:22Well this has been a very physical encounter so far.
00:30:34So Frederic Dupont.
00:30:42Dupont whips it across for Kamara. They love to run with the ball. Good dummy sold by Nayaku.
00:30:49Here's an opportunity for Sulama and it was desperate Tongan defence that got across
00:30:56but what a lovely back move from the Ivory Coast.
00:31:02Well it's the first time we've seen their bracket spread out and they showed a high
00:31:05skill level there. Made the half break, fixed it wide from Kamara and a lot of pace out there wide.
00:31:15They haven't had a great deal of ball to play with in the game so far.
00:31:18Salamane Mafi and Paolo Latukefu and a no-key Afiaki in there for Tonga.
00:31:33In fact they're going right over the back to Vunipolo. Well worked.
00:31:43Yes it did come off but it's an unusual tactic to call a short line out on your throw in
00:31:48two meters from your line and throw it right over the back. Generally
00:31:51a safe conservative approach would be expected. They're winning ball comfortably at number two
00:31:56they could have taken it and drive up the front. There's little risk or no risk associated with
00:31:59that move. So five to one advantage so far on the line outs for Tonga.
00:32:11Ivory Coast though have this one just near the Tongan 22.
00:32:25Charging back in was Lasisi. Now the kick by Dupont.
00:32:30Toeipolo two weights they're all there and it looks as though they've got themselves
00:32:35offside. They're ahead of the of the kicker Frederic Dupont and yet another
00:32:40penalty against the Ivory Coast and really they are mounting.
00:32:56Lisi Vunipolo.
00:33:17This match being played at Olympic Park in Rustenburg which is about
00:33:2290 kilometers from both Pretoria and Johannesburg.
00:33:26Very close to Sun City Rustenburg.
00:33:37Referee Rieran has had a lot of work to do in the first 30 minutes of this game.
00:33:42Now fail Vunipolo.
00:33:47Well claimed it close.
00:33:57Midfield thrust by Unu Wainuku.
00:34:06Tonga winning a lot of good second phase ball. Mana Otai up to the try scorer Latu Kepu.
00:34:11There it is again for Tuthui.
00:34:14Away for Penieli Latu. In fact it's the centre three quarter. Marfilio
00:34:18support infield but the man's in touch as Nafe Tuthui heads for the line.
00:34:26But in fact Samana Marfilio the centre three quarter has put a foot in touch.
00:34:33You know a good period of play by that Tonga. They set up afterward in the line out up the
00:34:37front when they drove a little they spun it wide set up two ruts and then spun it wide again using
00:34:42the skills and lucky there that he went over but certainly that's the type of play we expect from
00:34:46a side like Tonga. Tonga leading by 17 points to nil. Two tries one of those a penalty try.
00:34:55Angoran throws. Hawke with the halfback Dupont did well.
00:35:10A lot of responsibility at this world cup on Abubakar Kamara the man who had to come on very
00:35:15early in the piece to replace Atanaz Dali.
00:35:35Another line out win for the Ivory Coast. They won precious few line outs
00:35:39at the start of this game. Now Kabara always giving possession away. Bad kick.
00:35:45So Tonga now can set it in a good attacking position. Tuthui. Vunipola sees a little gap
00:35:50flicks it up nicely for Vainuku. Vainuku still has it and the pass and field is a poor one. Apiaki.
00:36:02Goal line just five meters away.
00:36:07Taken in by one of the Ivory Coast players and snapped away towards the touchline by halfback
00:36:14Dupont and they survive another raid and include a clearing kick from Frederic Dupont.
00:36:33The crowd's obviously seen something we haven't seen. There's a lot of whistling
00:36:36and catcalling going on. Perhaps we'll pick it up on the replay.
00:36:39Well it doesn't seem to be getting too much sympathy the player on the ground.
00:36:47In fact there are several players left on the ground. It was a very good run here by Vainuku.
00:36:56The infield pass though wasn't very good and really the Tongans lost it at that stage. Yes
00:37:03it was a turnover to the Ivory Coast but now the player's on his feet taking the ball. It's quite
00:37:08correct.
00:37:20Very untidy sequence and finally the clearing kick was made by Frederic Dupont. So several
00:37:28of the Ivory Coast players are injured. Vubka Kamara. Now of course Atanaz Dali is sitting
00:37:36on the bank today and so there is an opportunity for their best player if you like to come into
00:37:42this game.
00:37:53So Amalia Kone. He's okay. He's back in a position. So now the concern is for Vubka Kamara
00:38:03and one would imagine if he can't come back onto the field
00:38:07and it does look pretty serious then we may well see Atanaz Dali
00:38:12who is the captain of the team. It's surprising if the men are the best players that in fact
00:38:17they're not actually in the original side. Dali is in fact coming on.
00:38:22So there is Dali the man who is the captain of the World Cup team.
00:38:33Later resumed. Tonga leading by 17 points to nil and yet another penalty.
00:38:51So a player left injured on the ground.
00:38:56It's the big prop for Tucson Jae. He was another key member of this team.
00:39:03Once again Tonga passing up the opportunity to kick for goal.
00:39:23So that's Vubka Kamara. The doctor is there
00:39:26and all players at the Rugby World Cup have to be checked by a doctor before they can be replaced.
00:39:30Lose jumping high at the back for Tonga.
00:39:38Finally he's ripped away by Talakai. Good run here by Tevita Wainuku.
00:39:44Players there in support. Snapped up again by Latukefu and the try is scored by Mana Otai,
00:39:51the captain of Tonga. He gets the third try of the day. Mana Otai.
00:40:01Well he's a very popular player. Mana Otai has done a very good job
00:40:06leading this Tongan team at the Rugby World Cup and that is just reward for him.
00:40:12Another strong surging run here from Tevita Wainuku and he got good support from his forwards
00:40:18as the ball went to ground. It was snapped up by the man who scored the try a little earlier,
00:40:22Palvalu Latukefu and the surging run from Mana Otai and the try.
00:40:27It's good, tight, structured football. It started from a good two-hander take at the back of the
00:40:32line out by Lose. They set up the driving ball from a short pass from Tumai. Controlled it,
00:40:38they didn't panic when they put it down. They had the numbers there and Manu goes over wide out.
00:40:47Ball did go to ground there. Just a question of whether it bounced forward or not.
00:40:51Referee read and said no.
00:41:05Sateki Tuipulotu. Good looking kick.
00:41:14So Tuipulotu hasn't had a great time with the boot at the Rugby World Cup. Scores,
00:41:18converts the try scored by Mana Otai and Tonga are away to 24 to nil.
00:41:30Well that looks like the end of the tournament for Abubakar Kamara but an opportunity for
00:41:35Atanaz Dali who was injured in the match against Scotland very early on to get back into the action.
00:41:42Now he is a very talented player. Plays his rugby in France. In fact as a journalist in Paris.
00:41:49Tongan team playing with good control in this match.
00:42:03And only rarely Laurie have we seen the Ivory Coast get any attacking opportunities. Yes but
00:42:09you'd have to say that the Ivory Coast is certainly playing as much more commitment this game than we
00:42:12saw them play in the first game against Scotland. For example in that kickoff there were three forwards
00:42:16running on the ball carrier. I can remember against Scotland at the stage of the game
00:42:19Sanaka was the only forward putting pressure on the ball whatsoever. So certainly they lifted their
00:42:23game. They've got greater commitment and they're causing more problems to Tonga than I would have
00:42:28expected before this game. We have 40 minutes up in the first half but the referee will be playing a
00:42:36long injury time. One would imagine anything up to five minutes or slightly more. Taken in by Marfilio.
00:42:46And Tonga will get the scrum.
00:42:51Well the Ivory Coast have been very frustrated
00:42:56by the referee's decisions in the first half and mistakes they've made themselves.
00:43:02And as you can see from that they've won very little ball so far. Yes I think that
00:43:06reflects through the quality of the Tonga loose forward trio of Botai, Apikila and Losey.
00:43:12They've dominated. Tongans have had a good loose forward trio in any game and their loose forward trio have
00:43:17dominated the loose play in the three games to date.
00:43:22Another loud feel on the whistle.
00:43:41Marna Otai perhaps not too happy with the racking methods of the Ivory Coast. Having a word with
00:43:56referee Reardon. Away we go again. Otai up for Te Kui. Knocked down by Nayaku.
00:44:03Now Unu Vainuku.
00:44:10Another penalty.
00:44:14Well they're coming thick and fast the penalties. Now the burst made by Te Kui.
00:44:20Little halfback gets it back. Good support from Losey. Another storming burst from Latukefu.
00:44:28Now the hooker Verticola. Away for Vainuku and Tonga losing control of the ball.
00:44:37And a big thump downfield by Jean Satik.
00:44:46Vainuku hands it back.
00:44:48Well the referee is particularly concerned and very vigilant the moment the ball goes to ground.
00:45:00Yes I think he has to be early in the game. We saw a couple of loose boots flying around and
00:45:04he's interpreting the game and to the level of the law. But the Ivory Coast can't afford to give
00:45:09away this amount of possession and hope to get any points on the board. They're just going to have to
00:45:13tighten up their discipline. Short line out called by Ivory Coast. Nice jump near the back by Patrice Pair.
00:45:25Big solid tackle made by Unu Vainuku on Alfred Oku.
00:45:33Away for Dupont. They've looked good running with the ball. Away for Sulama.
00:45:39Players making not much effort to retain their feet just crashing in over the top.
00:45:54A lot of injury time in the first half.
00:46:01Tackle made there. Now just look at these players come crashing in and
00:46:05no effort to retain their feet. None whatsoever.
00:46:16So it's been a rather disjointed first half. Two songs J.E.
00:46:25But despite all that Tonga have run in three tries. One of those a penalty try.
00:46:34Now one of the Tongan players being catched up.
00:46:48You'd have to say for the first 30 minutes this game was really a totally unstructured affair.
00:46:52Both sides were just trying to win the ball and run it at will and in the last 10 minutes
00:46:57or 50 minutes we've seen the Tongan side tighten it up. They've tried to keep it tighter in the
00:47:01forwards. Driving it. Setting up second, third, fourth phase rucks and then running off it. No
00:47:05starting to play a game which will obviously score a lot more points within the second half.
00:47:11Taken out of the back by Lasisi. Kick made by little halfback Dupont.
00:47:19And the Ivory Coast move on to attack now.
00:47:21Well it's been most of the territory, most of the possession for Tonga in this
00:47:34first half and it's reflected on the scoreboard. They lead by 24 points to nil.
00:47:41Another loud appeal on the whistle and yet another penalty.
00:47:46Well the penalty count is mounting. Mounting dramatically against the Ivory Coast.
00:48:01Not such a good kick this time from a little fly half. Now Sulama who's a good runner.
00:48:0910 meter line in Tongan territory.
00:48:11And you can see that the moment the ball goes to ground, referee Reardon blows the whistle. In fact
00:48:16he blows it again because that's half time and at the end of the first 14 and a half and goodness
00:48:22me it goes against the Ivory Coast and they can't believe it. Toussaint Jeyi, you can see the
00:48:27expression on his face. But the referee said that in fact there was
00:48:34some offside play there as the Tongans take it quickly. Now to Thuy.
00:48:41And the ball knocked down.
00:48:44Well the penalty count against Ivory Coast is enormous.
00:48:48Certainly there's no counter for to give away that position. But I find it really strange that
00:48:51the best two players for the Ivory Coast, Darley and Sanenko, weren't in the original lineup. If
00:48:55the men are well enough to put on boots and come on those reserves and they are the best players
00:48:59and certainly Darley's the best goal kicker in this side, it's an unusual choice to have them
00:49:03sitting on the reserve bench for this game. This man has a real personality in Ivory Coast
00:49:10rugby, Toussaint Jeyi. There he is number three and he goes, he's after the ball there.
00:49:23And the injury comes as he crashes to the ground.
00:49:28Now the scrum is set. Laudy Paolo brings it in. Nice little move with Manor Otai.
00:49:3222-meter line in Ivory Coast territory. Away by Thuy. Little kick pushed forward by Laudy Paolo
00:49:39and the mark taken by Victor Kouassi. They're very steady and reliable fullback
00:49:45playing in his ninth international match for the Ivory Coast.
00:49:56Well we could see Ivory Coast start to dominate the lineouts here. Sanenko is a world-class
00:50:00number eight. He would bless most sides. In fact he's been in two sides that have beaten both the
00:50:04All Blacks and the Springboks, playing for the French Espoir against the Springboks in 1992 and
00:50:08playing for a Southwest selection against the All Blacks in 1990. So he's a world-class player
00:50:12and he can certainly win a lot of ball for the line out, particularly the back of the line out.
00:50:20Well Tonga have been winning a lot of ball towards the back throughout the arcade. He's
00:50:23got it again as he's taken down by Oku. Now the big charge from Fuka Fuka for Tonga but again it's
00:50:31ball control is not good and the kick, the clear and kick made by Frederic Dupont
00:50:36who has given sterling service to the Ivory Coast at this World Cup.
00:50:48Both of these two sides will be on their way home in the next couple of days. Their World Cup will
00:50:52be over when the final whistle blows.
00:51:00A lot of the Tongans will be going back to Australia and New Zealand where they play their rugby.
00:51:05Taken in by Nafe Tufui and you can hear the crowd reaction as the penalty goes to
00:51:11Ivory Coast, one of the few they've had in the match. Take it quickly.
00:51:15John Satie is number 13.
00:51:23Finally snapped up by Curtis Blay, number one, the loose head prof. Now they said it properly, Dupont.
00:51:31Lovely runners with the ball
00:51:35as Lucien Nayaku.
00:51:45John Satie is not very happy. He's complaining to the
00:51:48touch judge that he got a finger in the eye, I think, and Ephraim Sklar.
00:52:01Number 12 is the man being called out, Uluwai Anuku.
00:52:16Well, that was the incident and the penalty went against Tonga against Uluwai Anuku.
00:52:39That's a lovely take by Patrice Pair for the Ivory Coast.
00:52:5424 points to nil. Referee says use it. They've got to keep it moving.
00:52:58Got it up, held up nicely. Now Dupont. Way for Dali. Solid tackle made on Satie.
00:53:11And the ball was knocked on.
00:53:15Well, that's interesting to see since Sonaka has come onto the field. The Ivory Coast are starting
00:53:19to take Tonga on at the tight game. Perhaps their self-belief has just risen a little bit with the
00:53:24addition of a pair of his calibre.
00:53:29To Pui. Somebody in the crowd's got a whistle and it's a little bit off-putting.
00:53:36As the clearing kick is made for Tonga.
00:53:59Wasn't selected for the first game and was pretty disappointed about that.
00:54:05Willie Lohse in front of him. But the throw to be made by Angoran for Ivory Coast.
00:54:14He gets it and makes a good searching run.
00:54:19Terrific run by Angoran the hooker. Now they hit it hard 10 metres out but looks like Tonga might
00:54:24have grabbed it. Pretty hefty work going on on the ground there. And it'll be Ivory Coast ball
00:54:31but what a sensational run there by the hooker Edouard Angoran. Well they're just starting to
00:54:41establish a little bit of dominance in the forward pack. Doubtfully due to Sonaka's presence. But
00:54:48we saw a little bit of off-the-play ball there. The unnamed Ton on lock certainly wasn't going for
00:54:52the ball as he rucked over the Ivory Coast player. But I think it's been picked up by the side umpire
00:54:56side line umpires. Pulling out number three it must have been the problem prop.
00:55:06Eto'ini Talakai is the tighthead prop for Tonga. And you just get the feeling in this game Laurie
00:55:15that the referee's patience is going to be tried once too often and someone is going to get their
00:55:19marching orders. This is the wonderful run by Edouard Angoran the hooker. He went clean through
00:55:30the Tongan pack. Finally dragged down by Tevita Vaiduku. Now let's see in fact if we can see
00:55:37what the referee was concerned about. The player is on the grounds.
00:55:43The player's starting to get in there now.
00:55:45And the boot's working from number three Eto'ini Talakai.
00:55:52Focus stuff really. That's always picked up in these games by the line umpires.
00:55:55You're really giving the opposition the position.
00:56:00Atanas Dali. His first points of the Rugby World Cup. He came with a big reputation. He's finally
00:56:07got onto the park and has kicked a penalty goal and Ivory Coast are on the board.
00:56:14Every time the Ivory Coast side scored against France they got an enormous cheer from the crowd
00:56:33and they were very pleased to see once again they got on the board against Tonga today.
00:56:38Dali gives that a good thumb too. Tonga looking to go quickly.
00:56:44Good work by Talakai near the front of the line out for the Tongans.
00:57:11But they don't seem to be making quite the same impact in the game in this early in the
00:57:14second half. No the ascendancy of the game seemed to have swung the Ivory Coast away.
00:57:18They're well behind in points obviously and they're well behind in the penalties conceded.
00:57:22But the presence of Dali and Sanaiko has obviously lifted the play
00:57:26and the game is is just ebbing their way a little bit at nine, ten minutes into the second half.
00:57:34Tupui for Bunipolo.
00:57:40Again mistakes. Penieli Latu this time knocks it on.
00:57:44Yes that's an unforced error and something you wouldn't expect in the Tongan three quarters.
00:57:52But here we've got a we've got a golden scrum here for for Cote d'Ivoire and I would suspect
00:57:57they're going to use Sananko and he'll probably come off the back of the scrum probably going
00:58:01the short side. Yes Sonali Latu plays for Japan. Brother of Penieli Latu.
00:58:18A lot of injuries in this game.
00:58:20It's time to hook a blow Bunipolo.
00:58:25In fact it may well have been Tuakala hooker hooker.
00:58:32Just the light breeze blowing. Temperature in the early 20s. Very
00:58:38pleasant and comfortable conditions for this match. 24 points to 30.
00:58:41And so it looks as though
00:59:12Tuakala hooker hooker is off the field. So another player leaves.
00:59:23And Penieli Latua is coming on for the Tongans.
00:59:34So away we go again. Dupont.
00:59:38Handed off the back by Sananko.
00:59:45Kiwami showing good pace on the left wing side. He was the man to replace Brito. The referee
00:59:50was playing an advantage though. It was offside play against the Tongans.
00:59:54And so here's another chance for Atanas Dali. And he indicates yes he wants to shoot for goal.
00:59:59Well the Ivory Coast players had the right idea but their scrum wasn't strong enough to hold a good
01:00:04eight man shot from the Tongans. He pushed them off the ball and obviously upset their initial plan.
01:00:11We see the game the ascendancy just moving the Ivory Coast way and the Tongans seem to be
01:00:15playing at this point getting through the game. And I wonder whether the emotional effort required
01:00:20which they put in against France and which really looked like they were going to beat France at one
01:00:23stage is something which has just drained them a little bit. They're playing well but they're
01:00:27certainly not playing with the fire and passion and commitment we've seen many Tongan sides play with.
01:00:38Second opportunity for Atanas Dali. He's a very good goal kicker.
01:00:44Two out of two for the Ivory Coast captain.
01:00:5524 points to six and the Ivory Coast coming right back into the game in the second half.
01:00:59Kickout made by Budi Polo.
01:01:12Away for left winger Kiwami. And the kick finally made by Victor Kouassi.
01:01:21And this crowd starting now to get in behind the Ivory Coast.
01:01:24They've become favourites certainly in Rustenburg with the crowd. Now the Tongans settle it.
01:01:35Kouassi, now Budi Polo. Slips it back inside to Wainuku.
01:01:41Tevita Wainuku knocked back by one of the Ivory Coast players. Play on says referee
01:01:46Reardon. Now Unoi Wainuku. Up for Maafi. Away to Wainuku again. Storming run here by Mali.
01:01:56Away for Tuipalotu. And Seteke Tuipalotu scores a very good try for the Tongans down the left wing side.
01:02:09Stunned by two recent penalties against them which have resulted in points.
01:02:13The Tongans have hit back. This is their best try of the game and it's scored by their big fullback
01:02:20Seteke Tuipalotu with some good surging running here. Twice in the movement. Falamani Maafi
01:02:27and the last pass out to Tuipalotu. Getting close to the touchline but he stayed in and scored it.
01:02:34Yes well I think this try shows us two things we know well about the Tongans. Firstly their
01:02:38their leg strength. They drive through pounding the knees up high and very very difficult to bring
01:02:42down. And then we see their skills and option taking. They've got great hands
01:02:47pushing wide and Tuipalotu over in the corner.
01:02:59Well he's had a much better day today with his goal kicking.
01:03:12Not able to convert his own try from the sideline. Seteke Tuipalotu
01:03:19but Tonga now lead by 29 points to six.
01:03:28Another look at it here. Some storming running here from the big Tongan forwards.
01:03:32Good work also there from left wing three-quarter Tevita Wainuku.
01:03:36The final pass is made and the surge for the corner by Tuipalotu.
01:03:42Ball doesn't go 10 meters. Played by an Ivory Coast player.
01:03:55These are wonderful attacking opportunities. Well known as golden scrums in New Zealand.
01:04:00The attacking side is the option to go left or right and put one extra man in.
01:04:05Off the bat goes Otai. Looks and feel for Afeyaki. That's a good tackle by Sonoko
01:04:10and he's added some real steel to this defense and Afeyaki went nowhere.
01:04:16Yes I think that's the wrong option. When you've got the half of the field to play in
01:04:19there seems little point in playing back to your forwards. You play back to your forwards
01:04:22when you've got a short side and not much room to move it. But they had the whole half
01:04:25the field to run that in with an extra man out wide. So I think Tonga took the wrong option at that point.
01:04:28Here's another chance for them to spread it a bit wider. But this time the tackle made on half back Tutui.
01:04:40An exchange there
01:04:44between Gilbert Bardot and Willie Losey.
01:04:48And the referee may well have to refer to the touch judge on that one.
01:04:58Well referee Reardon is not terribly interested.
01:05:10Oh Losey threw one.
01:05:21And we had a bit of an exchange there. Obviously he wasn't spotted by the man on the
01:05:26sideline with the flag. Now they're both on the ground. Difficult to see.
01:05:29Standing up obviously it's much easier.
01:05:40Dali
01:05:52John Satik. Tongan forward pack getting there in numbers. And again there are problems in there.
01:06:00Well the temperatures have been fairly high throughout this game.
01:06:11And the referee is going to bring the captains out now.
01:06:17I think at this point he'll be saying next man off regardless of either side.
01:06:20To pity the game degenerated to this. It could have been a good spectacle. There's nothing at stake
01:06:24except the well there is the pride of both countries. But there's no points in the world cup
01:06:28it's making this. In fact that looked like a wild swing and a miss.
01:06:45Well the referee is really laying down the law to the two captains.
01:06:49John Satik and Matarotai. He said do you want to play the whole game or do you want me to call it
01:06:54off 20 minutes early. And he's instructing the two captains to go and talk to their players.
01:07:06Lecoque de Bois were involved in a game in 1991 against Morocco where the game was abandoned with
01:07:10about 20 minutes to go due to on the field violence. And it would seem that maybe the
01:07:15French influence mixed with the strength of the African is quite a volatile mixture
01:07:19on the field. But I'm sure it's not a one-sided affair. I imagine the Tongans are giving as good
01:07:23as they get. And I think both sides obviously need to settle it down and play disciplined
01:07:28and certainly constructive rugby. So back to the rugby. Otai. Pass from Tufui.
01:07:36Charging in comes Mofilio. Another good solid tackle there by Sonoko. He really has added
01:07:43something to the Ivory Coast effort. Certainly in defense since he got onto the park.
01:07:58Well the Tongan people are very gentle, polite.
01:08:02But they like to play their rugby hard. Very physical type of game.
01:08:14Dupont away for Dali. And that is a lovely kick off the left foot. Foot by Atalaz Dali.
01:08:27He would be playing under a lot of duress without any doubt at all. The passing of his
01:08:32father last night. And as we saw at the start the two sides standing in a minute's silence.
01:08:44Tonga have control of this. They lead by 29 points to six.
01:08:49They did have control of it. They've lost it again. Now J-E.
01:08:54Setting up nicely for Dupont. Away for Dali. The kick. Not such a good one on this occasion.
01:09:02Across for Sulama on the right wing side. Tonga get it quickly.
01:09:08A good storming burst again by Maffey.
01:09:18And the referee most reluctant. And who can blame him. To allow those rucks and balls to continue.
01:09:24Even though the ball did come back rather quickly. The whistle had already sounded.
01:09:29Well that statistic certainly tells quite a lot. And combined with the penalty count.
01:09:35You can very quickly work out while Tonga lead by 29 points to six.
01:09:39I think that those 34 balls to 10 shows really that Tonga loose forwards of Otai Lose and
01:09:47Afiaki really try and stay on their feet. And use their hands from the legal position of being on
01:09:51their feet. Whereas the Ivory Coast loose forward seem to crash into the loose balls
01:09:55off their feet. They're not in a position there to play the ball. And the ball's obviously there
01:09:58for the taking. For any of the Tongan loose forwards who are able to stay upright.
01:10:08Willie Lose has come to the sideline.
01:10:12He's had a good World Cup. He had a great game against France in the first game for Tonga.
01:10:18And certainly won a lot of line out ball for Tonga over this tournament.
01:10:21Yes he was forced to play at lock forward against those two nations. France and Scotland.
01:10:32And it's not really a lock forward at all. There are two players waiting to get onto the field.
01:10:41Number 16 is Taipei Esotolo.
01:10:45Lasisi goes on for the Ivory Coast.
01:10:51Now it's ripped away for Dupont. Bad pass.
01:10:56Hovering out there is Oku who's a strong runner.
01:11:04Now Dupont.
01:11:06Going back in cover is Onubayanuku. Onubayanuku with good support there.
01:11:12Makes it up over halfway and places it nicely.
01:11:14Tui Pelotu losing control of it.
01:11:16Getting very untidy. Now it's Kuasi.
01:11:18Now in fact it's the right winger Sulama.
01:11:20He hasn't knocked away.
01:11:22Neither side able to play the ball.
01:11:24It's a very tight game.
01:11:26It's a very tight game.
01:11:28It's a very tight game.
01:11:30It's a very tight game.
01:11:32It's a very tight game.
01:11:34Neither side able to retain possession of the ball.
01:11:38Now it's handed back by Talakai.
01:11:40Out from Munipolo to his brother.
01:11:42Elisi Munipolo.
01:11:44And his kick is ineffectual.
01:11:46And the clearing from Sulama is not good.
01:11:48And the clearing from Sulama is not good.
01:11:50So I think we can just about write that particular phase of play right off.
01:11:52So I think we can just about write that particular phase of play right off.
01:11:54Well that has to be the worst phase of play in the whole game.
01:11:56There were three episodes where the ball retention failed on both sides.
01:11:58There were three episodes where the ball retention failed on both sides.
01:12:00There were two four line kicks.
01:12:02That's even the whole tournament.
01:12:04There's certainly some bad options taken.
01:12:06Four skill levels shown by both sides in those two to three minutes.
01:12:08Four skill levels shown by both sides in those two to three minutes.
01:12:10Vaka Onga is on the field for Tonga.
01:12:12Vaka Onga is on the field for Tonga.
01:12:16All sorts of replacements on the field.
01:12:18All sorts of replacements on the field.
01:12:2029 points to 6 Tonga lead.
01:12:2229 points to 6 Tonga lead.
01:12:2429 points to 6 Tonga lead.
01:12:26They led by 24 to 0 at half time.
01:12:28They led by 24 to 0 at half time.
01:12:32What a good fight, Don.
01:12:36Touchdodge on the far side.
01:12:38Head for cap for Scotland.
01:12:42A very difficult afternoon for Don Reardon as Bonipolo throws.
01:12:44A very difficult afternoon for Don Reardon as Bonipolo throws.
01:12:52Free kick to Tonga.
01:12:54So Vaka Onga is at 19.
01:12:56Lutura is at 20.
01:12:58Now this is a free kick.
01:13:00Now this is a free kick.
01:13:02They've come up far too quickly.
01:13:04They've come up far too quickly.
01:13:06Referee playing another advantage.
01:13:08Referee playing another advantage.
01:13:10Away for Ba'u Bonipolo.
01:13:12Away for Ba'u Bonipolo.
01:13:14And it's cleared away by Frédéric Dupont.
01:13:16And it's cleared away by Frédéric Dupont.
01:13:18Nobody home at the back.
01:13:20Dupont is down.
01:13:22And there's a loud peel on the whistle once again.
01:13:24And it is a late tackle.
01:13:28Another penalty.
01:13:34Well this game really has deteriorated.
01:13:38Well this game really has deteriorated.
01:13:40It's not only the skill level dropping off.
01:13:42It seems to be there is a genuine misinterpretation
01:13:44It seems to be there is a genuine misinterpretation
01:13:46or lack of knowledge of the rules by some of the players.
01:13:48They took the penalty on the second penalty,
01:13:50They took the penalty on the second penalty,
01:13:52well wide of the mark.
01:13:54They must take the penalty on or near that mark.
01:13:56That's a basic error, shouldn't happen to Rugby at this level.
01:14:05So, Te Bui for Lutipolo.
01:14:10A quick play by Wainuku.
01:14:12Very good play by Victor Kawasi.
01:14:17Dali.
01:14:18Oh, a big tackle.
01:14:20The Ivory Coast players didn't like it.
01:14:23Now the charge
01:14:25is made by Whakaonga, the new man on the field.
01:14:30All sorts of gesturing going on here.
01:14:33Referee just says play on, now Dupont
01:14:36goes to flick it back in field, a misunderstanding.
01:14:41Placed on the ground by Whakaonga again.
01:14:47And finally, it's a penalty and the Tongans don't like it.
01:14:50They'll get marched another 10.
01:14:52So, discipline starting to go again,
01:14:55as it did the other night
01:14:57in the match against France.
01:15:00Well, that was another poor period of play on both sides.
01:15:02Again, there were several episodes where ball retention wasn't maintained,
01:15:05the ball was knocked on and it was passed backwards without
01:15:08watching where it was going.
01:15:09I think these players now are tending to play out this game and
01:15:12the lows are still a bit of a niggle there.
01:15:14They're not really concentrating on the basics.
01:15:16So, the referee is going to stop the play.
01:15:17We have yet another injury.
01:15:21And as I mentioned earlier, Ori, it's getting very hard to
01:15:24keep up, players from both sides
01:15:26going down injured.
01:15:31The new man on the field has been quite prominent.
01:15:33That's Ferreti Whakaonga, number 19.
01:15:41And he's got a good shot.
01:15:42We might get even another player on here.
01:16:02Isi Tolo.
01:16:08So, number 16 is on.
01:16:10It's going to be Isi Tolo.
01:16:13So, Uno Wainuku is off the field.
01:16:26Almost get the feeling in this game that everybody's having a
01:16:28run, like a Sunday afternoon picnic.
01:16:32It certainly seemed to have generated to that, but the
01:16:34accuracy and the skill level of both sides has dropped off.
01:16:36But the other comment to make since halftime is that the game
01:16:39here, the intensity of the game has really gone, aside from
01:16:41the try that Tonga got, the Ivory Coast way.
01:16:43And that's due to the presence of Sanaka on the field and
01:16:46Dana on the field.
01:16:46And certainly the Ivory Coast have played better in the second
01:16:49half than the first half.
01:16:50Teufui puts a little kick in.
01:16:52Fired back by Oku to Victor Kuasi.
01:16:57And he really has been one of the standout players for the
01:16:59Ivory Coast at this Rugby World Cup, Victor Kuasi.
01:17:12Thrown short this time by Vudipolo.
01:17:20Cleared away by Teufui.
01:17:22Now the new man, Isi Tolo, who's come into the game for Wainuku.
01:17:26Uno Wainuku is off.
01:17:3115 out from the 22 in centre field.
01:17:33Whistle goes again.
01:17:35And it's another penalty against Ivory Coast.
01:17:38This time they're offside.
01:17:42So Mana Otai has the ball on the mark.
01:17:55And a nice kick by Seteke Tuipulotu.
01:17:58In fact, it was Elisi Vudipolo who made the kick.
01:18:05Just the one try scored since halftime by Tonga.
01:18:08In fact, Ivory Coast outscoring the Tongans by six to five in
01:18:12the second half so far.
01:18:33Good catch by the Tongans.
01:18:34They could drive this one all the way.
01:18:39Trying to work a clear.
01:18:41They do for Teufui.
01:18:42Vudipolo, big charge coming from Whakaonga.
01:18:49Very near the goal line now.
01:18:54Good resolute defence though by Ivory Coast.
01:18:57Now the ball freed up.
01:18:58Where is it?
01:19:00It's in the arms of Dali.
01:19:02And the clearing kick made.
01:19:03Not out as yet though.
01:19:09Good defence there by Ivory Coast.
01:19:12But they would have had to, Sanaka would have had to be lucky.
01:19:14He wasn't pulled up for offside anymore.
01:19:16He came in from the wrong side and disrupted the flow of the ball back
01:19:18to the Tongan scrum half.
01:19:20So they were lucky to get away without conceding perhaps a penalty or
01:19:24even a penalty try on that occasion.
01:19:27So Ken McCartney having a chat here with Don Reardon.
01:19:39You get the impression the pace of this game is somewhat less than the
01:19:42pace of the teams in the top half of the World Cup.
01:19:45The Tongans, when they played at pace, which they did against France,
01:19:47it's absolutely brilliant.
01:19:48But this afternoon, you get the impression it's a 90% pace effort.
01:19:52It's just dropped off there.
01:19:53Their commitment, their passion is not there.
01:19:57Certainly in the second half.
01:20:02Well, you saw it in the foreground there.
01:20:03It was really just a shove from Salamone Maffi.
01:20:07And he's been penalized for that.
01:20:13Just really another in a long line of incidents in this match.
01:20:20It's a game that has started along.
01:20:22There have been some very good moments and nice tries by Tonga.
01:20:27But the referee has been forced to play a dominant role in the game.
01:20:36Sousa Jeyi then to throw for the Ivory Coast.
01:20:4329 points to 6. Tonga lead.
01:20:53Good delivery for Dupont.
01:20:55Dali, little change of tactics.
01:21:01Taken away by Tutui.
01:21:04Tongans drive strongly on him.
01:21:06But once again, they can't hold on to the ball.
01:21:09Now an opportunity for the Ivory Coast.
01:21:12Good run by Satik.
01:21:14Ball still live.
01:21:17And is it a touch and goal or across the touchline?
01:21:25It's a line out right near the goal line.
01:21:28And a glorious opportunity here for Ivory Coast to score a try.
01:21:33Yes, I think they'll probably try it to Snanko.
01:21:35He's their top jumper.
01:21:37I see he's jumping at five.
01:21:38But I wouldn't be surprised if we see him moving back to the back of the line out.
01:21:41They try to run around the back and then perhaps bring it back on the short side.
01:21:46No, he's still jumping the middle line out.
01:21:51Mataroto standing just behind him.
01:21:56Diving close to the line, but he's held up.
01:21:59Ball is still there.
01:22:00Number seven, Oku.
01:22:03Alfred Oku.
01:22:06Scores a very popular try for the Ivory Coast.
01:22:13They've had an excellent second half and have been rewarded with that try by Alfred Oku.
01:22:21Well, if we look at that line out again, you'll see the ball was going to Snanko.
01:22:24He went up for a forward leap and was pushed out of the line out by Otai.
01:22:28The referee didn't see it or chose to play the advantage, which was a correct shot.
01:22:31But watch here, he's knocked forward out of the line out.
01:22:35Good play by the Ivory Coast.
01:22:37Good ripping play here by Oku.
01:22:39He's had a good game, the flanker.
01:22:41And there he is, reaching over and scoring the try.
01:22:50Change of goal kicker now, Victor Kewasi.
01:23:04Yeah!
01:23:10Victor Kewasi not able to convert that try.
01:23:13But it's looking quite respectable now from the Ivory Coast's point of view.
01:23:17Tonga ahead by 29 points to 11.
01:23:20Well, certainly the Ivory Coast has dominated the second half.
01:23:22Watch Snanko.
01:23:24In fact, he was pushed out of the line out by his own player.
01:23:28Patrice Peer had a go at the line.
01:23:29He was rather too high and was held up.
01:23:31But much better body position from Alfred Oku.
01:23:38Taken down by Sonoko, handed back by the tryscorer.
01:23:41Playing with a bit more confidence now.
01:23:43As the kick is nudged down by Frederic Dupont.
01:23:47And you can only admire the way Ivory Coast have improved in this Rugby World Cup.
01:23:51After their toweling the other day from Scotland.
01:23:55And territory in the second half, while it still favours Tonga, not by much.
01:24:01Come on!
01:24:03Come on, come on, come on, come on!
01:24:06Come on, come on!
01:24:08Come on, come on, come on, come on!
01:24:11Va'u Gunipolo looking for Apiaki.
01:24:14Taps it up nicely for Fileti Pakaonga.
01:24:18Big charging run there by Latu Kepu.
01:24:24Now it's taken out by Tukui.
01:24:28Isi Tolo is number 16.
01:24:32And it won't come out of there.
01:24:39Good play by Tonga.
01:24:40Again, it's an example of the tremendous driving power in their thick legs.
01:24:44They drive hard, they bring their knees high.
01:24:46It wasn't really bad defence by Ivory Coast at all.
01:24:48It's just extremely difficult to bring down these big Tongan forwards who are on a rampage.
01:25:01Tuipilotu.
01:25:06Made by Dupont.
01:25:09Dali getting good distance.
01:25:12Tuipilotu just keeps it in.
01:25:22Just on the Tongan side of halfway.
01:25:27And good work by the Ivory Coast.
01:25:29They got up there very quickly.
01:25:32Well, there are a lot of volatile players out there.
01:25:37There's three minutes to go, three, four minutes to go.
01:25:39The referee's just got to settle it down.
01:25:40Well, that was the wrong option taken by Tuipilotu.
01:25:43He only had one man in support.
01:25:45He tried to run into a gap with three men coming down.
01:25:47And really, he's under pressure.
01:25:50His job is to clear the ball, protect your red zone.
01:25:57I think that's just pushing and subbing.
01:25:59I think that's just pushing and subbing.
01:26:00There's not really much venom or vigor in it.
01:26:06Jean Satick has gone down.
01:26:07I think he might have been complaining once again about a finger in the eye.
01:26:15As we check once again the statistics.
01:26:20Well, the possession in the second half
01:26:23in favour of the Ivory Coast.
01:26:26And in fact, they've outscored Tonga in the second spell by 11 to 5.
01:26:31Well, you can certainly understand that Dali didn't play because of the grief in his family.
01:26:35But it's astonishing that they left Semenko sitting on the bench.
01:26:38He's without a doubt a world-class forward.
01:26:41His presence in the side is not just the benefit that he gives by winning the ball and driving
01:26:46and his constructive play at the back.
01:26:48But he lifts the rest of the team.
01:26:50We've seen them beat Tonga in the second half.
01:26:53Mainly due to his presence on the field since half-time.
01:27:00So the crowd are amusing themselves in another way
01:27:02as yet another injury break occurs on the field.
01:27:13I don't think the referee Don Reader will be too upset when he blows the whistle for full time here.
01:27:18Little kick is charged.
01:27:21Scrum fed by Dupont.
01:27:25Dali.
01:27:27Satik Sinsdor recovered to the corner.
01:27:30Dali.
01:27:32Dali.
01:27:34Dali.
01:27:36Dali.
01:27:38Dali.
01:27:40Dali.
01:27:42Dali.
01:27:44Dali.
01:27:46Dali.
01:27:48Dali.
01:27:49Dali.
01:27:51Dali.
01:27:53Dali.
01:27:55Dali.
01:27:57Dali.
01:27:59Dali.
01:28:01Dali.
01:28:03Dali.
01:28:05Dali.
01:28:07Dali.
01:28:09Dali.
01:28:11Dali.
01:28:13Dali.
01:28:15Dali.
01:28:17Dali.
01:28:20Very solid hit.
01:28:23Made by Bunipolo, but he was offside.
01:28:26So they take it quickly for Dupont.
01:28:31Lovely run here by Lassisi.
01:28:33A number eight forward.
01:28:34Five meters out from the 22.
01:28:36Again Dupont.
01:28:40Ball still live.
01:28:41Forward from both sides.
01:28:43Very slow now to get to the ruck.
01:29:02Well, the pace has slowed quite considerably
01:29:04towards the end of this game.
01:29:12Go on.
01:29:17Quite a telling statistic right at the end there.
01:29:19Tonga have been dominant with the rucks and the balls.
01:29:22The Ivory Coast have competed well in the line-outs.
01:29:26Particularly in the second half.
01:29:27The snark has been on.
01:29:38More problems here for Tonga players.
01:29:40Tonga player, this time it's Pinielli-Lattu.
01:29:45Referee's not going to wait for him though.
01:29:52Lattu picking the ball up.
