00:00So we've come along to the poppy shop in Skegness today for a very special lady
00:07Marjorie 30 years service with the local branch of the Royal British Legion. That's a long time, isn't it?
00:19How did you get involved in the first place, can you remember all those years ago?
00:24Yes, my late husband was a standard bearer.
00:31We were in the forces for 22 years.
00:36We moved here from Hong Kong.
00:40It's something I enjoy doing.
00:44So which services were you with?
00:46Colsteen Guards.
00:50Did you retire there?
00:53We moved here from Hong Kong.
00:56And then you joined the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
01:00Has it changed much over the years?
01:05I suppose so, because when I first joined, not being disrespectful, seeing a lot more older members when they were getting younger ones.
01:16And I know a couple of years ago there was concern about the future of the local branch, wasn't there?
01:22There was, because we had to move.
01:25From Dexhurst which means in Polly on to Park Clock.
01:32It's a little bit different this year, isn't it? With this poppy appeal and the project to put the display around the clock tower.
01:42It's D-Day. 80 years.
01:46What do you think to this project?
01:48It's fantastic.
01:55No words can describe it in real life. It's just fantastic.
02:00What Christ has come up with.
02:03And obviously you're here at the counter in the poppy shop.
02:11How are you serving customers?
02:14I like interacting with the public.
02:17You're keeping everyone in check as well, I would imagine.
02:21I can see that you're really eager to get back to work.
02:25I am. I've not seen the...
02:27I know, I know.
02:28I don't like.
02:30But congratulations anyway.
02:33I know all your colleagues wanted to see that you're acknowledged, so well done.
02:39Thank you very much.
02:41We've just been speaking to Marjorie.
02:43Very reluctantly.
02:4630 years service.
02:47Amazing.
02:48It's an amazing year, isn't it?
02:5030 years doing something that she absolutely loves.
02:53She's our pocket rocket.
02:54She excels at it.
02:57Without any volunteers, there is no poppy appeal.
03:00To have somebody like Marjorie is amazing.
03:03And we are so lucky.
03:04And we just have to recognise the fact.
03:07Even though she doesn't want any thanks, she doesn't want any praise,
03:09she doesn't want anything that she needs to get thanked.
03:12We've done that.
03:14And to keep you in check as well, because that's no mean feat, is it?
03:16It's no mean feat, keeping me in check.
03:18No, absolutely not.
03:19Many have failed.
03:21She did give me the look earlier on, but I'll take it.
03:26And obviously the poppy nets are looking absolutely fantastic.
03:30They're looking fantastic.
03:32And we're nearing the end now.
03:33It's getting quite sad, but not.
03:35It's sad, but it's not.
03:37It's sad that this part's going to come,
03:39but I'm so excited to see them round the clock tower
03:43and for everybody to see all these months and months of work come to fruition.
