00:00The Independence Brick by Brick campaign goes to a central issue, which is why it's so important,
00:06which is providing somewhere where victims of domestic violence can go to to feel safe and
00:13secure and to get out of the situation that they're in. Because for many, particularly women
00:19and girls, that step is the vital, most important step. I sat down with individuals who'd been
00:26subjected to domestic violence. It had a profound impact on me. I've continued those conversations
00:33for 15 years, both as a lawyer, as a prosecutor and as a politician. Every single time somebody
00:42who's been subjected to domestic violence tells me about their experience, it renews in me a
00:48determination that we will grip this and grapple with it. And that's why we've made a commitment
00:54as a government. No government has ever made that commitment before to halve violence against women
00:58and girls. And anything that can further that campaign, I'm going to support, which is why the
01:04Independence Brick by Brick campaign is, for me, part of that wider story about how we halve
01:11violence against women and girls, because it provides that first step of safety and security
01:17that many victims can't take and now will have the opportunity. So that's why it's so important.
