00:00My name is Lawrence Yang. I'm a designer at Valve. I work on the Steam Deck team,
00:04and we're here to announce Steam Deck is coming to Australia next month.
00:08It has a lot of the guts of what would be in a gaming laptop, but shrunk down to a smaller size
00:12with gaming controls or the screen that's appropriate for this kind of device.
00:17And I would say because it runs SteamOS, it's purpose-built for playing video games.
00:23It's purpose-built for playing computer games, and I think that's a big advantage of it.
00:28I spent half an hour playing with the Steam Deck, and my first impressions were largely
00:32pretty positive. It plays well, it feels great, and the operating system is amazingly intuitive.
00:38Every option I needed or wanted to find I located easily.
00:41On a technical level, the deck is brilliantly impressive machinery.
00:45But it's still two and a half years late. Gamers hardcore enough to fork out that
00:49much money already bought a third-party Steam Deck two years ago.
00:52Original Steam Deck came out about two and a half years ago.
00:56Steam Deck OLED came out about a year ago.
00:59And honestly, the reason it took so long is very boring.
01:02It's just we haven't had a presence where we could ship physical products in Australia before,
01:06and we wanted to ship Steam Deck Direct instead of through a retailer
01:10to have the direct relationship with our customers.
01:12What's good, though, is now that we are set up to ship hardware here in Australia,
01:16future hardware, including future versions of Steam Deck,
01:19will come to Australia along with the rest of the world.
01:22There won't be a wait.
