The London Question: is London now financially impossible for artists and creatives?
Transcript
00:00I do. I mean, mostly underpaid, underrepresented, and everything in London is just way too expensive.
00:08No, I don't believe so. I believe in anything. A lot of the in-city businesses are trying to
00:14get the creatives in as they know that it brings them a wider view and it brings in more people
00:20and allows them just to build up their economy anyway. So no, I feel like they need us.
00:25Yeah, I would say so, generally. Primarily, unless you've got some other source of income,
00:30really. Support you, there's not really anything in London now. Rent's so expensive,
00:35especially if you have a studio space and everything else, it's just impossible.
00:38I think rent is the ever-increasing problem and, of course, being a creative is
00:45inevitably a very unstable career, at least at the beginning. So I would say,
00:50yeah, for a lot of people it is really difficult to stay, you know, alive and financially stable
00:55in the creative industry in London. It's rough. I mean, it's just so unreliable. It's so hard to,
01:01like, yeah, just rent and everything going up month by month and everything becoming so expensive.
01:06You can't do anything but work, basically. And yeah, if you're lucky enough to even get work.
