00:00Palestinian authorities denounced the target of Israeli genocidal forces to continue their
00:13ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
00:19Hurricane Milton made landfalls south of Tampa Bay, posing significant threat to life and
00:23property.
00:25In Argentina, after Congress approved the veto of the university's financial law, teachers'
00:32unions announced a strike for October 10th in the national universities.
00:42Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:54Palestinian authorities reported on Wednesday that at least 28 civilians were killed and
01:12others wounded following new Israel's airstrikes on a schoolhouse in displaced people in the
01:18city of Jabalia.
01:19The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that due to the attack on a Rafai schoolhouse
01:24in displaced people in Jabalia al-Balad, Palestinian representatives also denounced an advanced
01:30period of ethnic cleansing by the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian people.
01:39In this context, the government of Bolivia requested to join the judicial process against
01:43Israel for genocide in the Gaza Strip before the International Court of Justice.
01:48In Israel, Bolivia joins the demand for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory and
01:52to sanction the actions that lead to genocidal acts, Bolivia has repeatedly expressed its
01:56support for peace in Palestine, showing its solidarity with the situation in the Gaza
02:01Strip and the West Bank.
02:03Since the beginning of the process, three orders have been issued requesting Israel
02:06to leave the occupied lands.
02:08The case brought by South Africa before the International Court of Justice has already
02:13been joined by countries such as Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Spain and Chile.
02:24Thousands of citizens in the city of Peru embarked a warship of Turquille after Israeli
02:29attacks on Lebanon.
02:30The warship, named TCG Bayraktar, sailed from the port of Mersin, Turquille, carrying 300
02:36tons of supplies, including food, sanitary kits, kitchen utensils, tents, beds and blankets.
02:42The warship had been sent to Lebanon to provide aid and bring back Turkish nationals and some
02:47foreigners following Israeli airstrikes which had targeted the country in recent weeks.
02:52Turkish officials and the government affirmed that military evacuations and charter flights
02:57will be organized if necessary to repatriate Turkish nationals in Lebanon.
03:02It's indescribable.
03:11They bombed the street below our house.
03:14From that moment on, it was over for me.
03:16I said I didn't want to stay in Beirut anymore.
03:19From that moment on, Beirut was over for me.
03:22Also in Lebanon, the civil defense declared the death of five of its paramedics after
03:27an Israeli airstrike on a rescue center in the south of the country.
03:31The Ministry of Health announced that the Syrian attack on the rescue center in Dardania
03:36left 12 people injured and five dead, joining the more than 2,000 people killed in the recent
03:40attacks by the Israeli regime against the country.
03:44Authorities also reported that the institution was severely damaged by the bombing and that
03:49rescue teams are on the scene.
03:59The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Janine Hennis-Plaskert, warned about
04:04the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region, calling the situation desperate.
04:08It's itself facing a conflict and a humanitarian crisis of catastrophic proportions.
04:16Now, as you know, this afternoon we are connecting from Beirut and I can tell you without reservation
04:23that the situation is dire.
04:26Unrelenting bombardment is now part and parcel of daily life in Lebanon with the latest blasts
04:33not even 30 minutes ago.
04:36Far too many people are paying an unimaginable price with over 2,000 killed, many more wounded
04:42and hundreds of thousands displaced.
04:44In the same context, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, denounced that paramedic
04:50teams and health workers are the main victims of the attacks in the region.
04:55Health care and frontline workers have come under attack, as have civil defense centers
05:00and water supply systems, pushing essential services to the brink of collapse.
05:07The killing of over 100 paramedics, health care workers and public servants impairs Lebanon's
05:14emergency response capacity.
05:17This must stop.
05:19Even wars have rules.
05:22In other news, the second day of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit took place
05:26in Laos, where leaders held bilateral meetings with the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
05:32Among the topics discussed at the summit were economic integration and digitalization in
05:35the region, the conflict in Myanmar, the fight against climate change and Soviet tensions
05:40in the South China Sea.
05:41The summit is also expected to include talks with South Korea, President Jung Suk-kyo and
05:47the Prime Ministers of India and Japan, Narendra Modi and Shigeru Ishiba.
05:51In response to the growing challenges in global economic development, Premier Li Keqiang
05:55called for greater market integration and cooperation between the Association and China.
06:09An ultra-large-scale market is the greatest foundation for promoting economic prosperity.
06:14Strengthening market coordination and synchronization is an important direction for our further
06:19cooperation.
06:20I believe that the closer and more organic integration and connectivity of the two major
06:25markets of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations will definitely lead to more
06:30significant economies of scale, industrial agglomeration and development spillover effects.

07:21In the United States, Hurricane Milton made landfall just south of Tampa Bay as a major
07:26threat to life and property hitting the Florida state with a destructive storm surge, devastating
07:31wind damage, potentially catastrophic flooding rains and several tornadoes.
07:35Milton is crossing central Florida state as a category 2 hurricane, packing winds up to
07:40110 mph as of 10 p.m. Eastern Time.
07:44It is striking to the east-northeast at 16 mph.
07:47The flash flood emergency is in effect for portions of Tampa Bay, including St. Petersburg,
07:52Tampa, Riverview and Palmetto, Florida.
07:55So far, 10-14 inches of rain has fallen across southern Pinellas County, coastal Hillsboro
08:02and western Vanate County.
08:04In addition, multiple tornadoes have been confirmed in southern Florida since Wednesday
08:09morning.
08:15On Wednesday night, Hurricane Milton made landfall along the west coast of Florida,
08:20where there are more than 1 million people displaced from their homes, more than 2.6
08:24million homes without electricity, and so far, two confirmed deaths from a tornado that
08:29struck prior to the hurricane.
08:31According to the latest bulletin from the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Milton is
08:34located about 120 km southwest of Orlando, the city of theme parks, and that its winds,
08:41although they have decreased in intensity, are still potentially damaging.
08:45The institution expects the now Category 1 hurricane to move east-northeast at about
08:5026 km per hour across the Florida Peninsula overnight and position itself in front of
08:55the east coast of the state on Thursday.
09:02We're focusing on just recovering, you know, getting help to people that need it.
09:06Again, this community was hit.
09:08From what the Dopplers are showing, we got hit the hardest, the quickest.
09:12Again, we say this wasn't expected.
09:14We prepare for things, but you can't expect or do anything when we have multiple tornadoes
09:19touchdown in such a short period of time in our community.
09:22It's just, it's devastating.
09:24There's no words to describe it.
09:26After forecasts of weakening, Hurricane Leslie regained strength on its northwest Atlantic
09:31track with maximum sustained winds of 130 km per hour.
09:35According to the National Hurricane Center, despite the additional strengthening forecast
09:39for this Wednesday, Leslie will weaken until early next week.
09:43Leslie is located 1,635 km east-northeast of the Northern Leeward Islands and is advancing
09:49at 17 km per hour, a slight reduction in forward speed expected, and could make a turn to the
09:56northeast during the next few days.
09:58It's important to note that this hurricane is expected to reach Category 2 by Thursday.
10:06And in Haiti, the mayor of Saint-Marc-Mérie-en-Fiefre reported that criminal gang attacks have resulted
10:16in 115 civilian deaths.
10:18The killings by the Grand Grief Gang in the early hours of last Thursday, whose victims
10:25include women, children, and the elderly, incurred more than 120 people injured by bladed
10:30weapons and firearms.
10:32The injured were treated at Saint-Nicolas, the closest hospital to the scene of the incident.
10:37This has caused about 6,000 inhabitants left their homes to survive the atrocious massacre
10:42in the city of Ponce on Sunday, causing civilians to temporarily stay in the city of Saint-Marc.
10:47I was hiding with my son behind a vehicle, and two men appeared and walked towards me.
11:02One of them said, don't shoot her.
11:05But when I ran, the other one shot me in the back.
11:11In other news, on October 9th, Al Batisipi reiterated his denunciation of the attempted
11:16coup d'etat against Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
11:19The executive secretary of the Latin American Integration Mechanism, Jorge Ariasza, called
11:24for the respect of the democratic and popular will of the Colombian people.
11:28He recalled that on September 14th, Al Batisipi issued a statement warning of the latent and
11:33imminent risk of a coup d'etat in Colombia, based on allegations made by the president himself.
11:38He then warned about this threat, coordinated by external and internal elements, intended
11:42to disrupt peace and prosperity in the region.
11:45The blog pointed out that from the first day of his mandate, the Colombian oligarchy tried
11:49to prevent Petro from carrying out his project of government.
11:59Venezuela's Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, assured that
12:03Washington will initiate relations with Caracas as of 2025 with the purpose of stabilizing
12:08the world oil market.
12:14Whether it is Kamala or Trump, the United States will begin in 2025 a partial understanding
12:19with President Nicolás Maduro to ensure the stability of the world oil market, putting
12:24the economic interests of both nations above ideological positions.
12:29The recent conflicts in the Middle East have placed the United States in another scenario,
12:33and as demonstrated, only Venezuela can ensure such stability.

12:59Welcome back.
13:13In Argentina, this October 9th, with 160 votes in favor, 84 against and 5 abstentions, the
13:19Congress approved the veto of a university financing law, followed by teachers' union
13:24protests.
13:25Since the beginning of Mele's administration, state contributions to universities fell by
13:2930%, and professional salaries lost around 24% of their purchasing power.
13:34Due to the veto, protests were organized and uniformed officers repressed thousands of
13:38university students who had gone to Plaza de los Dos Congresos.
13:43Union leaders affirmed that the demonstration seeks to reject the deputies who voted against
13:49the popular demand to defend universities and to consolidate the planned defense of
13:54salary and budget.
13:56Those mobilized assured that the popular will had been betrayed.
14:04In Uruguay, social and trade union organizations and political sectors called for a mobilization
14:09to condemn the genocide perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinian people and to demand
14:14a ceasefire.
14:15Uruguayan people gathered to express their solidarity with the people of Palestine one
14:19year after the beginning of the most recent escalation of the genocide that has left more
14:23than 1,000 dead and nearly 100,000 wounded.
14:27During the mobilization, we started from the esplanade of the city hall of Montevideo and
14:31went through the center of the capital.
14:33Hundreds of people demanded that the Uruguayan government change its position on the Sinai
14:37State's military offensive and call for an end to the Israeli aggression.
14:46On Wednesday, Brazilian citizens regained access to the social network X after the Supreme
14:51Court lifted the suspension of the platform in the South American country since August
14:5530, due to repeated non-compliance with court rulings.
14:58Through a statement, Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency notified internet service providers
15:03of the unblocking of X.
15:05Nevertheless, the agency clarified that the unblocking time will depend on the measures
15:09used by the suppliers, depending on their specificities.
15:13The unblocking of X was repeated on Tuesday by Order of Alexander de Moraes, the federal
15:19Supreme Court judge in charge of the case, after the platform paid fines totaling 4.7
15:24million euros imposed for several contempt of court charges in an investigation against
15:29this information.
15:36Former President Rafael Correa denounced on Wednesday the statement issued by the United
15:40States, which prohibits the Ecuadoran politician and former vice president Jorge Glass from
15:44entering the country.
15:46The Department of State stated in a note that it has designated Rafael Vicente Correa Delgado
15:51and Jorge David Glass Espinal as generally ineligible to enter the United States due
15:55to their participation in significant acts of corruption during their public tenure,
16:00although it has not been proven in court.
16:03On his part, Correa stated that the U.S. forgets that no one in the world has accepted the
16:07sentence for psychic influence and that five countries have given political asylum to those
16:13involved in the bribery case.
16:20On Thursday, France's major left-wing parties disparaged Prime Minister Michel Barnier's
16:25government's budget proposals.
16:27The parties deemed that the budget cuts of the conservative Michel Barnier have attacked
16:33the French social model.
16:34Coordinator of France Insoumise Manuel Bonaparte assured that the draft budget estimate, which
16:39is marked by a total effort of 60 billion euros, reflected the most violent austerity
16:43plan the country has ever experienced.
16:45The situation of the French public accounts has come to the forefront of the market's
16:49news since Macron called early legislative elections after his severe defeat in the European
16:55elections on June 9.
