The Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry is committed to tackling climate change with a whole-of-nation approach, Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said on Thursday (Oct 10).

He highlighted Malaysia's upcoming participation in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, as part of the government's efforts to advance the global and regional climate agenda.

At COP29, Malaysia will focus on climate finance and the unmet promises of developed nations, while reaffirming its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 and initiatives like the Climate Change Bill and National Adaptation Plan.

00:11Malaysia 2024, which is in its 15th year, and this event is our, not only Malaysia but
00:22also the region's premier sustainability and climate change event, and it's happening

00:46senior officials, and this event is organised by the Malaysian Green Tech and Climate Change
00:55Corporation, MGTC, an agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability,

01:23leadership for climate urgency, and there will be five key pillars, empowering cities,
01:29electrifying mobility, decarbonising energy, accelerating circularity, and conserving biodiversity.
01:36There's a few new innovations or events in this year, including a dedicated industry
01:46zone for hydrogen and carbon technologies, the Central Energy Transition Asia, and a
01:52multi-venue exhibition showcasing the future of connected, autonomous shared electric mobility
01:58or MobilityX.
02:03And we believe that as we are in the midst, last year we came up with NETR, we've revised
02:09our national climate change policy, and we're in the final parts of introducing the climate
02:16change bill, and the carbon market framework.
02:20This comes at a very strategic time, and next year as we host ASEAN, we aim to make iGEM
02:28to grow beyond merely more of a, now it's very much business-centric, but it can grow
02:34beyond to include even policy-centric and thought leadership events within the conference.
02:43And for this year, we've seen support from Austria, Canada, China, Singapore, Thailand,
02:49Finland, Korea, and the Netherlands to showcase their corporates and their technologies with
02:55regards to sustainability.
02:58And we've seen participation from various partners as well, Petronas, OCBC, TNB, Solar
03:04First, UOB, Solarvest, ITRAMA, Samayden, Cita Global, and SolarX, as well as Bio-Eneco,
03:15Plus X Energy, Leader Energy Grab, and Bank Pembangunan Malaysia, as well as Iskandar
03:22Investment Berhad.
03:23So through all this collaboration, we've seen that we, again, I believe we can create
