The backside of Hurricane Milton brought a dangerous storm surge to downtown Sarasota, which turned some city streets into raging rivers Wednesday night.

00:00The back end of Hurricane Milton packed a punch, blasting Sarasota, sending several feet of storm surge rushing into the city streets from several different directions.
00:12And the back end of Hurricane Milton was much windier as well. You can see this large air conditioning unit was blown right off the top of one of these high rises, landing in the flooded street.
00:22That storm surge inundation rushed in in a matter of minutes from different directions, from the bays, harbors and the gulf that surrounds Sarasota and these nearby barrier islands.
00:34The few drivers that were out on the road in the eye of Hurricane Milton ended up scrambling to find a way to safety.
00:41You should not be driving, trying to drive or walk through standing water. It can be dangerous. There could be electrical wires in there and who knows what else.
00:54So please, after the storm, stay where you are until it's clear.
01:01For some families, this is the second time in the span of two weeks that they are dealing with flooding and storm surge damage.
