00:00Three farmers were arrested for burning down more than two hectares of land in Antipolo, Rizal.
00:11In defense of the accused, they helped light a fire.
00:15EJ Gomez has the first news.
00:21These three farmers are now in jail.
00:24They were accused of burning down a farmland in Antipolo City.
00:29In his own house in Sitio Nagpatong, 62-year-old Alias Pab Nitong Martes was arrested.
00:36Police also arrested two other suspects,
00:39Alias Raka, 39, and Alias Judo, 32, in their home in Sitio Pulong, Banal.
00:46According to the police, the burning of the land in Sitio Nagpatong, Barangay San Jose, happened in April.
00:52They burned down a farmland, more or less two hectares.
00:58The incident happened sometime in April of this year.
01:03The warrant was issued this October 1st of this year and our police were able to serve the case immediately.
01:11The court did not recommend a penalty for the case of destructive arson,
01:16which was committed by the land owner against the accused.
01:19The accused refused to pay the penalty.
01:24According to Alias Pab, they tried to extinguish the fire so that their land and house would not be affected.
01:31One kilometer away from where the fire started.
01:34The truth is, we did not burn it.
01:36Suddenly, the fire started.
01:37We did not know where it came from because there was smoke at the end.
01:40It was sunny. It was dry. It was a grass fire.
01:42The area was very dry. It was a sunny day.
01:50Maybe because of the strong wind, the fire spread quickly.
01:55They claim that the possible origin of the fire was stolen from their land.
01:59This was admitted by several decades of informal settlers in the area.
02:02The reason for this is the land.
02:04The land is a government property.
02:07It was stolen.
02:09We just want to be released because we are already in jail.
02:12It hurts our souls that we are here.
02:15We did nothing wrong.
02:17We did not do anything to them.
02:19Why are they doing this to us?
02:21I hope they will reduce the demand.
02:25It hurts.
02:27I hope it will be true.
02:31Because it is hard to be jailed for no reason.
02:35In the custodial facility of Antipolo Component City Police Station,
02:39three accused are in jail.
02:41This is the first news.
