Vatican unveils St. Peter's Baldachin as first restoration in 250 years nears completion

Concealed by scaffolding since February, the restoration of the gilded Baldachin in St. Peter's Basilica is nearing completion, with the 30-meter-tall centrepiece's reinvigorated features being unveiled during a press tour. The Baroque canopy is a masterpiece by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and last underwent work in 1758. The current works are expected to finish on November 30, ahead of the Catholic Jubilee year of 2025.
