Stepping back to square one

External input can be a great thing, but often we delve so deep into the idea of it being a good thing for us and our business that we lose sight of what would work, is working or will never work. So stepping back can be an excellent way to see clearly.

00:00When we work for ourselves, we're often so busy effectively.
00:06I hate the word, I hate using the word busy, but busy in the sense that we're running our business.
00:12We're busy in the sense that we're trying to wear different hats and do lots of things for our business.
00:18We're so busy that we tend to find things and get influence from reading articles,
00:27watching videos and kind of do the things that other people do,
00:32thinking that it help us in our business in the way we work.
00:38We've all fallen victim to this. I have to recently specifically,
00:45but I got an email today from somebody.
00:50I know from a Masters group that I'm involved with Jeff.
00:53He's probably listening to this as well.
00:56And he messaged me in a reply about exactly this about the fact that we tend to get inspiration from others
01:08because how we think they're working and that thing will work for us.
01:15Now, I've been sending daily emails out actually kind of as an experiment for the past two months.
01:21Today will be my last daily email because I have been getting feedback,
01:26both positive and negative, but the negative ones purely too many emails
01:32and as a tech minimalist who helps people simplify everything.
01:37Yeah, that's not a great look.
01:39So I personally was looking at other people doing daily email,
01:45seeing that it's working for them and it has worked.
01:48I've got to be honest. It has worked.
01:50But I think it's again because of me being a tech minimalist and getting this feedback.
01:55I don't want to be lumped in as somebody who spams not that they're I'm hoping that they're not spammy emails
02:04because the good feedback is that they like the videos penning myself on the back there.
02:09So being busy doing our work and running our business.
02:16You sometimes have to step back and go, you know, what maybe this ain't a good thing.
02:21Maybe we should change it.
02:23Maybe I should change the way I work and and that's basically what I'm going to be doing.
02:31Obviously, this is a tech channel.
02:32So the idea of stepping back and looking at what you're doing equally applies to everything your tech
02:40and the things that you use the tools you use.
02:43So simplify everything that you're doing to make it easier on yourself,
02:49but better for your customers and your clients and your business effectively.
02:56So yeah, that's something that I have been thinking about for the past month,
03:03but I'm like, no, I want to keep doing it to test it out a bit further and you know me.
03:08I like to pivot.
03:11I don't change but I like to pivot and try different things.
03:14Hence. You've seen me rebrand a couple of times.
