00:00Wait, little kitty! Don't drink that water!
00:10Why?
00:12Because that water is polluted!
00:16Oh, hello my friends!
00:18In today's episode, let us learn about one of our prized resources.
00:24And an essential thing necessary for the existence of living beings.
00:29And that is none other than, water!
00:34Zoom in!
00:37So, what is water pollution?
00:41Water pollution occurs when harmful and toxic waste, chemicals..
00:46..or other particles enter water bodies.
00:49Such as rivers, ponds, seas, oceans and so on gets dissolved in them.
00:57Lies suspended in the water or gets deposited on the bed.
01:02Resulting in the degradation of the quality of water.
01:08Not only does this harm our aquatic ecosystems..
01:12..but the pollutants also reach the ground water.
01:15Which might end up in our houses as contaminated water..
01:20..we use in our daily activities, including drinking.
01:25But the most crucial question is, what causes water pollution?
01:30Well, sometimes water pollution can occur due to natural activities..
01:36..such as volcano eruptions, animal waste, algae blooms..
01:41..and residue from storms and floods.
01:46Not only that, everyday sewage and sometimes even garbage from cities..
01:53..are dumped into oceans, resulting in polluting the water tremendously.
01:59Other factors that can lead to water pollution..
02:02..are pollution from oil spills, fossil fuel combustion..
02:07..and chemical fertilizers and pesticides used by farmers.
02:14And once someone consumes this polluted water..
02:17..it can lead to diseases such as Hepatitis that can be fatal.
02:23Also, in many poor nations, there is always an outbreak of Cholera..
02:29..and other infections due to contaminated water.
02:34Another major problem caused by water pollution is..
02:38..that it kills organisms that depend on water bodies.
02:43Dead fish, crabs, birds and dolphins..
02:47..and many other animals often wind up on beaches..
02:52..killed by pollutants in their habitat.
02:55And all these factors eventually damage the ecosystem..
03:00..threatening life on earth.
03:03So now we know the root cause of water pollution..
03:07..and the fact that it can make humans and animals so sick..
03:11..that it can even be fatal.
03:15The next life-saving question is..
03:17..what can we do to help our ecosystem and prevent water pollution?
03:23The first and foremost thing we can do is start by saving water.
03:30Yes friends, fresh and clean water is more precious than anything else today.
03:37Let us do our every bit to make sure that we aren't wasting it recklessly.
03:44Start by taking shorter showers.
03:46Make sure to turn off the running tap when not in use.
03:51And check for any leakage occasionally.
03:54And most importantly, make sure to always pick up your trash..
03:59..especially when at the beach, lake or river.
04:04And spread awareness about it by discussing its effects with friends and family..
04:09..by sharing this video as much as you can.
04:14Trivia Time!
04:17Did you know, only around 1% of the earth's water is fresh water?
04:23Yes, the rest is salty and we can't drink it.
04:28Also, you won't believe it..
04:31..but between 5 and 10 million people die each year..
04:35..from water pollution related illnesses.
04:40Remember my friends, as they say..
04:43..if there is magic on this earth, it is contained in water.
04:48Water is the driving force of all nature.
04:52It is one basic element needed to sustain life on earth.
04:57We can survive up to several weeks without food..
05:01..but only a few days without water.
05:06Hope you enjoyed today's episode.
05:08Until next time, it's me, Dr. Binox, Zooming out.
05:20Ah, never mind.
