Israeli kibbutz remains a ghost town after surprise attack by Hamas last October

A year on from the 7 October incursion, Kfar Aza and Nir Oz are still mostly empty, with residents living in fear and anguish.

00:00Kfar Aza, a kibbutz near Gaza, was devastated by the Hamas attack last October 7th.
00:07More than 60 of the small community's residents were killed then.
00:11An entire street of young people were massacred, with 17 taken hostage.
00:16Shaharsh Norman and his wife survived the attack and returned to the kibbutz to continue
00:20their lives in the ghost town ahead of the attack's one year anniversary.
00:25We didn't do what we have to do.
00:27Not our government, not our army.
00:29And we lost, and we still lose, every day.
00:33Every day that we fight in Gaza and they say, oh, we killed another terrorist, blew another
00:38house, it's not important.
00:41Another kibbutz near Oz was also attacked.
00:44It was one of the hardest hit of the southern communities on October 7th.
00:48117 out of its 400 residents were either killed or kidnapped.

00:57In the far away one, a couple was getting murdered, and in this one, a family of five
01:04staying alive.
01:06It's just a matter of Russian roulette in the end.
01:11Only a handful of the homes in the kibbutz were left untouched, with many of the remaining
01:15still carrying scars of the attack, like bullet holes or stained blood.
