00:00So we're here at Charlton School, Wellington, Telford, and what's your name sir?
00:05John Waite.
00:06John Waite. Who do you represent John?
00:08I represent the Telford Railway Modellers Group.
00:11Is this an annual show here for you?
00:13This is an annual show, yes. We've been running it since 2009.
00:18Fantastic. How many set-ups have you got here?
00:20We've got 25.
00:2325 set-ups?
00:24Absolutely, yes.
00:25And how many people are involved in the Modellers Group that you represent?
00:29Something in the range of about 30.
00:32So you're a modeller yourself?
00:34Oh yes.
00:35When did you first get into it?
00:37I was, I would say about 5 or 6.
00:415 or 6? So it's been a hobby you've been able to take through your whole life?
00:46Absolutely.
00:47Any particular favourite set-ups today that you've seen?
00:50Well there are many. I'm delighted at the range of layouts that we've actually attracted.
00:59We've got a kids layout behind you that's getting some great attention.
01:03It always is. We've long wanted a Duplo set-up.
01:08It's great, isn't it? It's a way of engaging that next generation.
01:11Yes indeed, and that's important.
01:13And you were saying there's a snow set-up, and it's quite unusual to see a snow set-up.
01:18It is indeed, because it's very difficult to model convincing snow.
01:23Well they've certainly done a good job over there.
01:25Very good, yes.
01:26Well thank you, sir. Well done on a fantastic show.
01:29That's very much appreciated. Thank you very much.
01:33Who have we got here then? What's your names, lads?
01:36This is Sam.
01:38Sam and?
01:39Sam.
01:40Sam, are you having fun?
01:42Yeah.
01:43You're particularly enjoying this track, aren't you?
01:45Yeah.
01:46We're going to go to the airport.
01:47You're going to the airport? You're going on holiday?
01:49Later on, no.
01:50No, we're picking someone up.
01:52Oh, so it's planes and trains and automobiles, isn't it?
01:55Mummy's gone to rest today, and we're in trains this morning,
01:59and then we're picking my parents up from the airport.
02:01What a perfect lad's day though, you know what I mean, out looking at some trains.
02:05Apart from the parking charges at Birmingham Airport.
02:07Yeah, it's very true, very true.
02:10Guys, this track here then, it's actually modelled on a real location, that's right, isn't it?
02:15Yes, it's a Midford near Bath.
02:17So if we were there today, the railway's gone now, that's a railway walk, is it now?
02:22Yeah, the viaduct's still there, but you can walk into Bath from here through the tunnels.
02:26Wow.
02:27So how did you stumble upon this location? Did you used to live that way?
02:31Did you visit there and fell in love with it?
02:33It's quite a famous location, so we have a book that gives you some of the details about it.
02:38And you just thought, it ticks all the boxes in terms of...
02:41It's a beautiful location.
02:42Yeah, yeah, fantastic.
02:46Next time, it'll come around again and we'll request it.
02:52So what happens when you press the button, lads?
02:58It's basically when people tell the conductor they're going to get off at a station.
03:03With that, the train's going to stop.
03:05Oh, it stops the train?
03:07Yeah, it stops the whole train.
03:08Ah, cool.
03:09Nice one.
03:11See, you press the button and the next time round it's going to stop.
