00:00Is a major WWE return the real reason for the controversial Bad Blood main event?
00:05Becky Lynch's secret WWE status?
00:08Vince McMahon admits he's wrong?
00:10And more.
00:11I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:23Before I get into the news, over on Patreon.com forward slash WrestleTalk, Luke and I have
00:27released an exclusive podcast diving deep into the AEW TV deal, what that means for
00:33the future of the wrestling industry, and a look at AEW's ratings over the 5 years
00:38of their existence, and the effects CM Punk, Cody Rhodes and NXT have had on their viewership.
00:44What's a Punk got to do these days to get a main event in WWE, aside from not being
01:08injured a lot of the time?
01:10Since his return to WWE last November, Punk has found his two singles matches against
01:14Drew McIntyre take place in the middle of the cards, at Basham Berlin and SummerSlam.
01:19Sure, he kind of main-evented a pay-per-view with January's Royal Rumble.
01:23But by that logic, so did Carlito.
01:25You have to go back over 11 years for Punk's last singles pay-per-view main event in the
01:30promotion, when they were actually called pay-per-views, where he lost to The Rock for
01:35the WWE Heavyweight Championship at Elimination Chamber 2013.
01:40Punk only ever main-evented 16 pay-per-views over his seven year run, despite being the
01:45top champion for 434 days there.
01:48It was a long-running frustration that the actual stars like The Rock, John Cena and
01:53John Laurinaitis were given the show closing spots.
01:57And that is the way it'll continue, as PWInsider and Fightful are now reporting Punk vs Drew
02:03McIntyre in Hell in a Cell won't close Saturday's Bad Blood Premium Live event.
02:11The tag match of Solo Sakoa and Jacob Fatu vs Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns will.
02:16This comes after two weeks of backstage disagreement over which match should go on last.
02:21While Reigns and Cody are the promotion's biggest stars, them tagging together is an
02:25angle to build to a bigger match, like WarGames in November, or a singles match next year.
02:30Punk and Drew, however, is the conclusion of an epically told, long-running, near-year-long
02:35feud.
02:36The deciding rubber match, and a Hell in a Cell stipulation.
02:40A stipulation that Punk himself has revealed he's intent on making important again as
02:46he told the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, I have to stay true to myself, my beliefs
02:51of what good wrestling is, and that cell that I feel like as a company we've gotten away
02:55from for so long, where it just became a toy.
02:59Like we're just going to have a pay-per-view, call it Hell in a Cell, and everyone's going
03:03to go inside and have matches.
03:05When, in reality, that should be presented as the most dangerous, diabolical thing that
03:10any wrestler would ever want to do.
03:13I want to bring it back to what it's supposed to be.
03:15I don't want to have a cell that needs a match.
03:18I want to have a match that needs the cell.
03:22And I feel like me and Drew have done that.
03:24There's no other way to settle this.
03:27This totally vibes with Paul Levesque's booking philosophy.
03:30Under Vince McMahon, WWE would run Hell in a Cell pay-per-views, where feuds had to take
03:34place inside the structure no matter where they are in the storyline, and multiple Hell
03:39in a Cell matches would take place on the same night.
03:42The stipulation had become a crutch under McMahon, booking nine in the two years before
03:47he retired, for the first time.
03:49For comparison, Levesque has only booked two in the two years since taking over from
03:54Vince.
03:55But despite the stipulation, the hotness of Punk vs McIntyre, the legacy of Bad Blood
04:001997 being main evented by the first ever Hell in a Cell match, and that WWE reportedly
04:05took note of the fan backlash online when the tag match was mentioned as a possible
04:10show closer, Fightful Select is reporting Punk vs Drew is expected to open Bad Blood.
04:17Good luck following that, Nia Jax and Bayley.
04:20So if that's the opener, does WWE actually have something enormous planned for the main
04:25event?
04:26In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cody heavily pushed him teaming up with his former
04:30foe Roman at Bad Blood.
04:32Anything is really possible now, the quarterback and the cornerstone.
04:36It'll be the best WWE PLE to date.
04:41Now I get you've got to hype up shows as the face of the company, but saying Bad Blood
04:45will be the best ever WWE PLE after two years of great to all-time fantastic PLEs is a pretty
04:53big push.
04:54Unless Cody knows something we don't.
04:58Like what almost came out following his appearance on the Pat McAfee show.
05:02Which Rhodes specifically shared on his Instagram, suggesting he wants people to hear that interaction.
05:25Cody is shown in the clip thanking Pat's team when McAfee states the big guy is coming
05:30back this week.
05:31You'd assume that's Roman, who hasn't wrestled a match since he's lost to Cody
05:34at WrestleMania 40.
05:36But Cody responds asking… which big guy?
05:40Potentially implying another top star is set to return at the show, which Pat has also
05:44heard about.
05:45And the only real name big enough that fits that particular storyline, and Cody's promotion
05:50of it being the best PLE to date, is Rock for Dwayne Johnson.
05:55It's alright there, wake up Sheeple!
05:59Rock could be blocking CM Punk's main event 13 years after Punk's pipebomb that said
06:04that the fact that Dwayne is in the main event of WrestleMania this year and I'm not makes
06:10me sick.
06:11What do you think about the Hell in a Cell match not main eventing Bad Blood?
06:14Tell me in the comments down below.
06:18Talking of big stars not currently wrestling, an update has come out about Becky Lynch's
06:23WWE status.
06:24Lynch hasn't appeared on WWE TV since May, when she lost the Women's World Championship
06:28rematch to Liv Morgan on Raw.
06:30Her contract expired the following month, and she teased leaving wrestling altogether
06:35on social media.
06:36She's reportedly been a free agent, technically free to go anywhere she wants since then.
06:42But now WrestleVotes Radio is reporting Becky is still listed on the company's internal
06:47roster, which is handed out backstage every week.
06:50They can't say if this means she's re-signed with WWE, but it does support the theory that
06:54Lynch leaving is just a temporary hiatus, rather than her being done forever.
06:59There's even speculation that Becky isn't actually a free agent, where she would have
07:03re-signed before she left, and is simply having an extended holiday, which is why she's
07:07still on the internal roster.
07:09AEW are somehow even less secretive when it comes to their talent dealings.
07:13Following MVP and Shelton Benjamin debuting in AEW, Fightful Select have inevitably broken
07:18that their Hurt Business partner Bobby Lashley has also signed with the promotion.
07:23Apparently all three members actually signed deals a number of weeks ago, and Lashley's
07:27onscreen debut is imminent, where he's expected to enter a feud with Swerve Strickland.
07:32Daniel Garcia, meanwhile, hasn't been seen on AEW TV since he lost to MJF at All Out
07:37last month.
07:38Prior to this, AEW was giving him a sustained push, but reportedly wrote him off TV when
07:44he wouldn't commit to a new contract, with WWE apparently champing at the bit to sign
07:50him.
08:04Fightful Select have now reported that Garcia hasn't been backstage at the recent AEW
08:08tapings, despite them being big shows for the company, like last week's Grand Slam
08:12in New York and the fifth anniversary episode this past Wednesday.
08:16A boo of WrestlePurists, however, does write that there are creative pitches for him if
08:20he decides to return.
08:22In more optimistic news, someone who has been backstage is Adam Cole Bebe, fuelling speculation
08:28that he'll return to TV soon after being out for over a year with an injury.
08:33But the biggest thing AEW needs right now isn't Adam Cole Bebe, not Red Death Daniel
08:38Garcia, not the revamped Hurt Business syndicate faction, hell, not even the TV deal.
08:44AEW is where the best wrestle, which is why they need the greatest wrestler in the woooooooorld,
08:56Shane McMahon to be All Elite.
08:58Following us breaking photo evidence of Shane's private, not-so-secret meeting with Tony Khan
09:02in August, and McMahon taking a picture with the Young Bucks last week, Mercedez Monet
09:07has now written the following in her newsletter.
09:09Seeing Shane's incredible heart and passion for wrestling makes me think he has a lot
09:14of unfinished business.
09:15It also makes me think, is Shane coming to AEW?
09:18I'm here for it, and I'm sure our roster is too."
09:22Following the McMahon Netflix docuseries, Mercedes also wrote about one of her experiences
09:27with Vince.
09:28A rare example of the man admitting he was wrong.
09:32During a feud with Nia Jax, which was presumably in their 2017 series of singles matches, although
09:36Monet doesn't specify exactly when, she writes,
09:40Vince accidentally called over the headset for the referee to ring the bell, and it was
09:44way too early.
09:46We were confused, but we played along.
09:48When she got backstage, she asked Triple H what happened, and Hunter playfully told her
09:53to go confront Vince about it.
09:55So I did.
09:56Vince admitted he was wrong, and then shared a laugh about it.
10:00This was presumably from a better time in their working relationship, as Mercedes has
10:04recently revealed her leaving WWE was because of Vince.
10:09A lot of personal stuff happened with myself and the chairman at the time.
10:13I didn't like how he talked to me, and how I was talked down to.
10:17But what about all those wrestlers who were legitimately fired on air?
10:21Go watch our video counting them down now, here's a clip.
10:24Hulk Hogan.
10:25I've always thought that the Mr. America character made perfect sense.
10:29I mean, what do Hulk Hogan and a bald eagle have in common?
10:33It's like grounds for a character change to me.
10:35After Hogan beat Vince McMahon in a Who's a Bigger Piece of Sh** Street Fight at WrestleMania
10:3919, Hogan was taken off TV by an angry McMahon.
10:43Immediately afterward, vignettes hailing the arrival of Mr. America began to air on SmackDown.
10:49Who arrives but a guy who is definitely not Hulk Hogan, and typical Ruthless Aggression
10:54Era comedy ensued.
10:55It wouldn't last too long, however.
