Brandon Tierney & Sal Licata discuss the big trade the Knicks made with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

00:00I really like Julius Randle. I've got great respect for what he did for this franchise.
00:04I never thought they were going to win a championship with Randle because what he
00:07doesn't do well is what kills you in the postseason. He's a little too sloppy. He's
00:11a little too loose with the basketball. So they made the determination. And for me,
00:15it was the right one. What they decided to prioritize here, is he a floor razor or is
00:21he a ceiling razor? Julius Randle to me is the kind of player, and there's not a lot of players
00:26like this, but he's definitely one of them who can go into, although Minnesota's not a
00:30moribund franchise at all, but you put him in a situation that's average or subpar and he'll
00:36raise that floor a bit, but it's not going to go very high. There's a limit there. He's not the
00:42kind of guy that you insert into a situation and elevate it to a championship level, in my opinion.
00:47I'd never thought, and I know they didn't play a lot with Brunson. So you never really got to
00:51really see this NOG, more specifically. I never thought that that was going to work out.
00:56You get a perfect fit. One thing I've been saying for years, the one thing missing with this team,
01:01they desperately needed is a big who could stretch the floor. There is no better big
01:06that could stretch the floor than Carl Anthony Towns when you talk about his shooting prowess
01:10from downtown. No, I mean, you nailed it. We think Patrick Ewing was a great shooter. Wait
01:13till you watch him dial it up every night. He's 41% from downtown. So, you know, this is a very
01:18modern move by the Knicks. And I appreciate it because now you look at the starting five here
01:22and they're going to miss DeVincenzo. They're going to miss that fire off the bench. I wish
01:25they would have found a way and they tried. I know they did. And then when they threw him back
01:29in, that's when this really took off. So, Hey, to get somebody like Towns, you got to give up
01:32something valuable. DeVincenzo is a baller. We all love them, but you got to make the move.
01:36And by the way, he's less valuable now with the addition of bridges. So I'm not minimizing him,
01:40but again, assuming health, the Knicks aren't going to need DeVincenzo the way they needed
01:45them to score 25 or 30 in the postseason.
