Brussels has stepped up its legal action against Hungary's "national sovereignty law," arguing it violates a wide range of fundamental rights.

00:19Today the Commission has decided to refer Hungary to the Court of Justice
00:24because it considers its national law on the defence of sovereignty to be in breach of EU law.
00:31The controversial law adopted by the Hungarian Parliament establishes Sovereignty Protection Office
00:37that investigates persons and organisations suspected of undermining the country's national sovereignty and constitutional identity.
00:46At this date, the European Commission did not request any interim measure.
00:51Therefore, the Office will be able to continue its proceedings.
