03:23Well, might get some sunburn up there, too.
03:25That's right, you might.
03:26Gotta beat the dragon, of course, to do that.
03:28He's gonna find a place to hide.
03:29Is Angela here to help you select?
03:31Sitting in the audience.
03:32Alright.
03:33We're gonna go first.
03:34How about some help from the audience, too?
03:35It hasn't hurt so far.
03:36That's right.
03:37We started at $7 every time.
03:38We'll do it again.
03:39Alright, so far, we've gone to $7 each time.
03:41$500.
03:42That is a great beginning.
03:44Now what?
03:46She wants $6.
03:47Alright, number $6 this time.
03:51$300.
03:52I heard some groans, but that was a good choice.
03:54Not bad at all.
03:55$200 to go, or a second attack?
03:57How about $8?
03:58Angela's had a good record so far.
03:59I'm not gonna change.
04:00Alright, number $8, right next to number $7.
04:02Tick.
04:03Alright, you need attack or $200?
04:06What do you got?
04:08She wants $4.
04:09She looks at her hands.
04:10Be sure it says $4.
04:11She's nervous.
04:12Okay.
04:13Number $4 it is.
04:16You got the $6.
04:17Horrific.
04:18Very well done.
04:21That's great.
04:22Where was the dragon?
04:25He was behind what?
04:26Number two.
04:27He's been up there a couple of times.
04:28Yes.
04:29Alright, so far.
04:30Try there next time, who knows?
04:31Well, as we mentioned at the top of the show,
04:33if you beat your next opponent,
04:35you'll win a brand new car, number one.
04:37A brand new car.
04:38And we'll come back with $20,700 to your credit
04:42and see what happens.
04:43Don't go away.
04:51It's time for our champion, Nick Scott,
04:53to meet his challenger.
04:54Who's it going to be, Charlie?
04:55Well, Jim, he's a consultant and chili cook-off judge.
04:59Meet Sheldon Mance.
05:06I got to hear about this one, Sheldon.
05:08You're a chili cook-off judge?
05:10That's correct.
05:11I started out as a cook, and luckily,
05:13I'm more or less up to judge in the chili cook-offs
05:16all over the state of California.
05:17You've done it everywhere, huh?
05:18Yes.
05:19In fact, last year, about a year and a half ago,
05:20I was lucky to be one of the judges
05:22in the world championship up at Tropico
05:24up in the middle of the desert.
05:25What an interesting pastime.
05:27What do you look for when you're judging chili, Sheldon?
05:29Well, there are four basic areas.
05:31You look for the color, of course,
05:33the consistency, the smell, and finally, the taste.
05:36Smell is important.
05:37Okay.
05:38You know, I was thinking as you were talking there,
05:40our judge, Scott Wyatt, who's always coming in
05:42to make sure I do everything right here,
05:43he used to be a chili judge,
05:45but then he put on a sweater,
05:48and he wasn't chili anymore.
05:52I won't touch that.
05:53Let's get on with the business here
05:55before we die, as it's known as.
05:58Sheldon, Nick, take a look at this.
06:00Here are the nine categories for this game.
06:02We've got Names the Same,
06:04Opponents' Choice,
06:05Physics,
06:06Colors,
06:07Mythology,
06:08Showdown,
06:09TV Stars,
06:10Auction,
06:11and Songs.
06:12Nine categories there.
06:13Remember, the red boxes are the special categories,
06:15and I'll describe those if they come up.
06:17Now, Nick, with a car at stake,
06:19where would you like to begin?
06:21Why don't we try Mythology, Jim?
06:23Why not?
06:24I'll read you this question, Nick,
06:25and you'll have some extra time.
06:27In one of the most exciting stories in Greek mythology,
06:30this hero gathered a group of men together
06:33and went in search of the fabled Golden Fleece.
06:36That group is named after the ship in which they set sail.
06:39Number one,
06:40name the Greek hero who led that expedition,
06:43and also,
06:44what was the name given to his brave crew?
06:46Here's your extra time.
06:57Nick, in one of the most exciting stories in Greek mythology,
06:59this hero gathered a group of men together
07:01and went in search of the fabled Golden Fleece.
07:04That group is named after the ship in which they set sail.
07:07Number two,
07:08name the Greek hero who led that expedition.
07:10Jason?
07:11Jason is right.
07:12Part two,
07:13what was the name given to his brave crew?
07:16The Argonauts.
07:17That's right.
07:18And, of course, the ship was the Argo.
07:20Good for you, Nick.
07:21We'll put an X on the board in the center.
07:23$300 in that pot already.
07:25Let's shuffle.
07:28Sheldon, what's your choice?
07:29I will take names the same in the lower right.
07:32All right, Sheldon.
07:33This entertainer named Ed,
07:35who may be TV's most popular second banana,
07:38shares his last name with a maverick quarterback named Jim
07:41who led the Chicago Bears to victory in the 1986 Super Bowl.
07:46What's their shared last name?
07:48McMahon.
07:49That's right.
07:50Ed and Jim McMahon.
07:52An O goes on the board now in the bottom right-hand corner.
07:54$500 in the pot.
07:55Let's shuffle.
07:58Back to you, Nick.
08:01Why not physics?
08:02Well, why not?
08:03Why not?
08:04Is it difficult or easy?
08:05I might find out why not.
08:06I don't know.
08:07Okay.
08:08This device takes its name from the Greek for circle.
08:11It consists of a wheel spinning inside a frame.
08:14It is used to stabilize ships,
08:16is part of aircraft guidance systems,
08:18and is even a popular toy.
08:21Name it.
08:22Gyroscope.
08:23Gyroscope is right, or gyro.
08:25Physics gets an X this time.
08:27Let's shuffle the $700 in the pot.
08:30Sheldon?
08:31I will go with colors to block in the upper right.
08:33All right, Sheldon.
08:34This hit 1955 song told of a certain girl
08:37who beat the bells of Texas.
08:39That Texas lovely had a nickname
08:41which referred to a colorful flower.
08:44For a block, what was that nickname?
08:46Yellow Rose.
08:47The Yellow Rose of Texas.
08:49You got it, Sheldon.
08:50You have a block.
08:51$900 in the pot.
08:52We're going to take a pause.
08:53Come back after this.
08:54Stay with us.
09:00Jim, back to you.
09:01Thanks, Charlie.
09:02A little of a game between Nick and Sheldon.
09:04It's a critical game for Nick
09:05because a car is at stake.
09:07Let's shuffle.
09:08$900 in the pot.
09:11All right, Nick.
09:12I'll try physics for the block.
09:14All right.
09:15You had that category before,
09:16this time going for a block.
09:18This Austrian physicist named Ernst
09:21studied high-speed physics.
09:23His work remained obscure
09:24until aircraft became capable of flying
09:26at the speed of sound.
09:28His last name is now used as a term
09:30meaning the speed of sound.
09:32For a block, name him.
09:35Mach.
09:36Mach is right.
09:37Ernst Mach.
09:41All right.
09:42Physics gets an X.
09:43Let's shuffle with $1,100 in the pot.
09:46Sheldon.
09:47I have to go for opponent's choice to block.
09:50All right, Sheldon.
09:51Because you've selected that particular category,
09:53Nick gets to decide whether you're going to answer
09:57or one on the Amazon.
09:59Nick, which will it be?
10:02Why don't we try the Amazon?
10:05All right.
10:06That's one question on the Amazon.
10:08Sheldon, you're going for a block.
10:09Here's the question.
10:10The Amazon River flows 4,000 miles
10:13through three South American countries.
10:16Brazil is one of those countries.
10:18For a block, name one of the other two.
10:22Bolivia?
10:24No.
10:25Peru or Colombia?
10:28Would have worked.
10:29Can't give you that box, Sheldon.
10:30Let's shuffle.
10:32$1,100 pot.
10:34Nick.
10:36Well, I think we'll go with opponent's choice again.
10:38All right.
10:39This time Sheldon gets to decide
10:41whether you're going to answer two questions on Mary Poppins
10:45or one on gold.
10:47Which will it be?
10:48Sheldon.
10:49One on gold.
10:50One question on gold.
10:53Nick, you're going for a brand new car.
10:56So here's the question.
10:58To jewelry makers,
11:00the number of carats in gold indicates its purity.
11:05For the game,
11:06a brand new car and a total in cash and prizes
11:11of $28,250.
11:15How many carats is pure gold?
11:1924.
11:20You've won a brand new car!
11:22Well, Nick, I mean to say,
11:37horizontal tic-tac-toe, $1,300 for the game.
11:41Add a brand new car,
11:43all of that together with your previous winnings,
11:45your total now in cash and prizes,
11:48$28,250.
11:51And here are the details on your brand new car, Charlie.

12:08All right.
12:09Well, Nick Scott continues to be in a roll.
12:12Just won a brand new car.
12:13And, Nick, you'll be taking on the Dragon one more time
12:16in just a moment.
12:17But first, Sheldon Metz,
12:19the man who's been known to judge chili cook-offs.
12:21We enjoyed having you on the show.
12:23It's been a pleasure here, too.
12:24Not as spicy.
12:25Excuse me?
12:26Not as spicy.
12:27That's right.
12:28Best of luck to you, Sheldon,
12:29and we have some nice parting gifts for you.

12:34Don't go away.
12:40Well, Nick Scott, our champion,
12:41has batted 1,000 so far and has defeated five opponents.
12:43And we're going to see if your luck holds with the Dragon.
12:46Come on, let's play the Bonus Game.
12:52That's right.
12:53He's jumping around.
12:54You can see him.
12:55See, he's trying to figure out where he wants to stop.
12:57But before we do that,

15:01Oh, gosh darn it.
15:02I'm not going to complain.
15:03Let's find out where the tack was up there.
15:06Tack was behind number 6.
15:08Keep that in mind.

15:14including that brand-new car.

15:48and I lived with a French family who didn't speak any English.
15:51Then that must have been quite an experience.
15:52I bet you learned to speak French quickly.
15:54I got to work on my French, and I saw some beautiful places,
15:56and I'd like to go back someday.
15:58Well, I think we've been known to speak French.
16:01Well, I think we've been known to give away a trip or two to France,

16:19All right, Nick, what's your poison?
16:21Classical music.
16:22I hope it'll be my meat instead of my poison.
16:24Okay.
16:25This famous symphony conductor named Arturo
16:28fled Italy's fascist government and came to the United States
16:32where he became the conductor of the NBC Symphony Orchestra
16:35and principal conductor of one of America's most influential
