00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're counting down our picks for the 10 best games to enjoy
00:22during the spooky, cozy, and whimsical Halloween season.
00:25The games here aren't just a hodgepodge of random horror-type games to play during
00:29Halloween, but are instead specific games that have a fantastic Halloween-slash-autumnal
00:35vibe, feel, and ambiance that evoke the magical Halloween season.
00:47Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:51the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:56Goosebumps Escape from Horrorland
01:10First up, we have an oldie but a goodie, way back from ye olde year of 1996.
01:15Goosebumps Escape from Horrorland is an incredibly quirky point-and-click adventure FMV game
01:20that feels like a perfect Halloween night.
01:23After some supernatural shenanigans happen at the Morris Suburban home, Lizzie and her
01:27family find themselves thrust into Horrorland.
01:30It's up to Lizzie and her brother Luke, once he's done being under wraps, if you
01:34know you know, to save their parents and put a stop to Madison Storm's nefarious madcaps.
01:39This game really has everything for a perfect Halloween vibe, from a werewolf village to
01:43some haunted woods, to a mummy-infested Egyptian tomb, to Dracula's castle, to a scarecrow
01:49come to life via jack-o'-lanterns stating seven of the best syllables ever said out
01:54loud in all of gaming.
02:05You just really can't go wrong with this game.
02:07Yep, sure, the puzzles are definitely ridiculously convoluted and obtuse, just like other games
02:13of this ilk from the 90s, but it's a game wrapped up in such a whimsical and often spooky
02:17package that still stands the test of time.
02:20Plus, you get awesome appearances from the likes of Isabella Rossellini and Jeff freaking
02:25Goldblum as Dracula.
02:26I mean, what more could you want?
02:27Come on.
02:28Spirits and Spells
02:50For being a kid-centric, family-friendly 3D platformer, Spirits and Spells, also known
02:55as Castleween, is a pretty dark and macabre Halloween adventure.
02:59Stepping into the tricking or treating shoes of Alicia and Greg, our sibling duo must recover
03:04the stolen souls of their friends, who they were trick-or-treating with on Halloween night.
03:08These unfortunate souls were captured by the evil boogeyman and his mischievous minions.
03:13Alicia and Greg must now enter the lands of the dead in order to save their friends.
03:17Yeah, like I said, Spirits and Spells is pretty dark and spooky, but it all happens to be
03:22wrapped up in a cozy, whimsical, autumnal Halloween vibe, with a real rogues gallery
03:26of spooky locales to explore.
03:38Now okay, I'm not gonna at all pretend that the actual 3D platforming, camera, or controls
03:43are good in this game, because yeah, spoiler alert, they're not.
03:46However, this is a game that you play for that nostalgic, cozy feeling of Halloween,
03:51where harmless mischief and spooky adventures were major parts of the season.
03:55Getting to hop around and collect various MacGuffins and abilities through creepy forests,
03:59haunted cemeteries, derelict catacombs, supernaturally infested mansions, and even more, dressed
04:05up as a witch and a devil, provides plenty of fantastic Halloween goodness, even with
04:10the overall gameplay falters, which there are plenty of.
04:20Grabbed by the Ghoulies
04:32While certainly not as beloved as Rare's many other games, Grabbed by the Ghoulies
04:36is still a delightfully enjoyable, spooky storybook romp through Ghoulhaven Hall.
04:42Cooper and his girlfriend wandered a bit too close to Ghoulhaven, so Baron Von Ghoul captured
04:46Cooper's girlfriend, and now he must save the day by facing his fears and entering this
04:50dastardly locale.
04:52Grabbed by the Ghoulies features all of the whimsy and charm that other Rare games of
04:56the past offered, specifically when it comes to the game's art direction and music.
05:06The sense of cartoony playfulness in this game as you smash and bash your way through
05:10Ghoulhaven is definitely top notch.
05:12Aided by the butler Krivens, Cooper can smack, punch, pummel, and dropkick a wide assortment
05:17of ghoulies, unless he happens to be caught off guard by one of the game's many silly
05:21jump-scare quick-time event sections.
05:24Grabbed by the Ghoulies oozes plenty of family-friendly spooky Halloween vibes that will surely light
05:29up those dark and moody October nights.
05:42The Haunted Mansion
05:43A game all about Disney's The Haunted Mansion, grim grinning ghosts, myriad spooky specters,
06:04ghouls, spiders, creepy creative mansion rooms, and more.
06:07I mean, what more could scream Halloween than those things?
06:09Nothing, I don't think.
06:10Yep, that's right, 2003's Haunted Mansion game is a real tree, you should play it.
06:15Taking place at the eponymous mansion, you step into the naive and bumbling shoes of
06:19Zeke, a character who winds up at the infamous locale in hopes of becoming the assistant
06:24caretaker.
06:25Much to his chagrin, he quickly learns from Madam Leota that he must recover the 999 spooky
06:30specters roaming the mansion's many, many, many rooms.
06:34Playing out as a sort of third-person action-adventure platformer, it's up to you and Zeke to
06:39face your fears, capture plenty of ghosts, piece together death certificates, and ultimately
06:44restore peace and harmony to this palatial otherworldly residence.
06:48Whether you are a fan of Disney's The Haunted Mansion Ride or the Eddie Murphy movie, and
06:52yes I do love that movie and I watch it every single October, or the more recent Haunted
06:57Mansion movie, or if you just happen to love all things about The Haunted Mansion in general,
07:01this game will provide plenty of tricks and treats during the Halloween season.
07:20Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, Oogie's Revenge
07:31I mean, come on, it's a Nightmare Before Christmas game, of course it's going to
07:40be great for the Halloween season, or I guess for the Christmas season for that matter.
07:45This 2004 gem of a game pits everyone's beloved pumpkin king, Jack Skellington, against
07:50the dastardly Oogie Boogie and his ghostly goons.
07:53Fortunately Jack has the Soul Robber on his side, a flubber-like weapon and tool that
07:57he hopes to use to bring even more scares, frights, and hideous things to Halloweentown.
08:02But Oogie being Oogie throws a wrench into the works and upends Halloweentown to his
08:07liking, much to the dismay of Jack, since he now has to contend with a plethora of new
08:12monsters.
08:13Getting to explore Halloweentown and its surrounding areas is a real treat here, with the game
08:18dishing up tons of action combat, platforming, environmental puzzles, and musically themed
08:23boss fights.
08:24I mean, yeah, hearing Jack say Soul Robber over and over again does become grating, but
08:29apart from that, Oogie's Revenge is a wonderful little title to enjoy during the spooky season.
08:33What's this?
08:41Jack!
08:44Halloween Forever.
08:54So, how about a fun-sized 2D platformer where you spit candy corn as your main attack?
09:01Yep, that's the very brief elevator pitch for Halloween Forever, and it's great.
09:05This lovely little retro-inspired platformer thrusts you into the denim overalls of Pumpkin
09:09Man, a goofy gourd who just wants to figure out what happened to his pumpkin patch.
09:14By the power of some occult forces, he is brought to life in order to discover the source
09:18of creepiness.
09:19Halloween Forever really is a special game that needs more time in the spotlight, especially
09:24during the Halloween season.
09:25The game has it all for those with a penchant for the spooky October month.
09:29Pumpkin candy pail one-ups, skeletons, chainsaw maniacs, grim reapers, cemeteries, haunted
09:34mansions, monster bosses, and once again, it needs to be reiterated, lots and lots and
09:40lots of candy corn.
09:41Plus, the retro tunes in this game?
09:43Sugar-laden chef's kiss indeed.
09:53Scooby-Doo, Night of 100 Frights
10:12Of all the great Scooby-Doo games out there to play during the Halloween season, it's
10:16Night of 100 Frights that truly takes the pumpkin spice cake.
10:19The lovable Scooby gang is back at it, this time heading to Mystic Manor in order to uncover
10:24the haunting, supernatural goings-on via the beck and call of Daphne's pal, Holly Graham.
10:29It's here at Mystic Manor where the spooky fun begins for Scooby since he now needs to
10:33rescue his Mystery Inc. pals.
10:35Night of 100 Frights blends traditional 3D platforming elements with a well-laid-out,
10:40interconnected, Metroidvania-style map where you need to collect new abilities and plentiful
10:44Scooby snacks to progress and open up new areas.
10:47The gameplay here is spot-on, and it feels like you are playing through an episode of
10:51the Scooby-Doo cartoon.
10:59Like I've said with many games on this list so far, it's about the Halloween vibes
11:03and feelings, and Night of 100 Frights has this in enormous spades.
11:08Running and jumping around the haunted manor, festering fisheries, creepy cemeteries, derelict
11:12docks and ghostly gardens, the game just has a great sense of cartoony, whimsical horror
11:18that will appease younger gamers and the young at heart who grew up with Scooby-Doo and want
11:22some Halloween-fueled nostalgia.
11:24As soon as that Mystic Manor music kicks in, it means the spooky season is definitely ready
11:29and truly to begin.
11:44Night in the Woods
11:56The town of Possum Springs may be down on its luck, but there's one thing it definitely
12:00has going for it, it's pitch-perfect fall ambiance.
12:04This cozy small town is dripping with autumnal goodness, especially as the town gets closer
12:08to celebrating the Harvest.
12:10Our protagonist, May, finds herself back in Possum Springs, the place where she grew up
12:14and calls home.
12:15However, upon coming back, it's clear to her that things just don't feel the same
12:19as they used to, both in terms of physical locations and various relationships with the
12:24townsfolk.
12:36Night in the Woods's narrative adventure gameplay really does thrive here, in large
12:39part because of the sense of place that's been lovingly crafted.
12:43Whether you are strolling through town, just enjoying the yellow, orange, and red leaves
12:46falling from the trees, chatting with townsfolk at a forest bonfire, or exploring the areas
12:52beyond Possum Springs, one thing is for sure, Night in the Woods will wrap you up in its
12:56mysterious, cozy, and sometimes spooky fall vibes.
13:10Pumpkin Jack
13:21This game is so, so good, especially if you happen to be a fan of the medieval games.
13:26Pumpkin Jack is dripping and oozing with Halloween style, creatively designed stages, super fun
13:31action platforming, and some great characters, all wrapped up in some of the best in-game
13:36lighting, art direction, music, and spooky October season vibes.
13:40If you didn't guess from the title of the game, you of course play as Pumpkin Jack,
13:44a snarky, pumpkin-headed denizen who is tasked by the devil to wreak havoc all over the kingdom
13:49of Arkensteel, along with your crow pal.
13:52Set in and around various diverse Halloween-esque stages, and even a spooky winter-slash-Christmas
13:57stage later on, you will jump around, whack devious goons with your myriad weapons, battle
14:02some unique bosses, collect crow skulls, unlock outfits, and even dance and groove along to
14:07some music at hidden gramophones.
14:21While the gameplay can definitely be a bit floaty at times, the sense of Halloween goodness
14:25in this game is incredibly hard to match, and will ensure that you come back year after
14:29year to dive into Pumpkin Jack's whimsical, magical, and spooky 3D adventure that is just
14:35brimming with autumnal enjoyment.
14:51Costume Quest
14:52It's an unequivocal hard fact that Costume Quest is the definitive must-play game for
15:07the Halloween season.
15:09Created by Double Fine Productions, Costume Quest is a turn-based RPG-lite adventure that
15:14perfectly encapsulates everything that's great about the spooky Halloween season.
15:18This trick-or-treating-centric game is all about siblings Ren and Raynald, and their
15:22madcap adventures in and around their cozy autumnal neighborhood of Auburn Pines.
15:27You really do get it all here, it's great.
15:30Trick-or-treating, of course, obviously, bucket loads of candy, plentiful costumes to collect
15:34and equip, monsters to battle, multiple cozy locations all dressed up for the Halloween
15:39season, plenty of whimsical music, Halloween-enthused friends to add to your party, and heck, even
15:44some good old-fashioned bobbing for apples.
15:54The first time you guide Ren and Raynald around their lovingly decorated Auburn Pines neighborhood
15:58will surely put a massive smile on your face, it always does for me, as you reminisce about
16:03the scary fun you had as a kid during this magical time of year.
16:07Double Fine created the perfect Halloween game that will hook you with its October vibes
16:11and style, immerse you with its characters and quirky story, and will keep you coming
16:15back for more with the turn-based battles, candy, costumes, battle stamps, and creepy
16:20treat cards galore.
16:39So do you agree with our picks for this list?

16:48And yes, it definitely needs to be stated here that Candy Corn is indeed very, very
16:52yummy.
