Claire has always had a passion for cakes and she now runs a home-based bespoke cake business.

00:00Hi, my name's Claire. I run Pleasantly Plump Bakes Cakes in our home in Drayton.

00:08I got into this from a very, very young age. I've baked for as long as I can remember.

00:14I come from a big family. We love food. I love to eat and I love to feed people as well.

00:21It was a lockdown thing. Somebody asked me to make a cake, so I did.

00:26And then my cake business online was introduced in early 2021.

00:34And then I started to bake for a local cafe, Bar Aroma, just down the road in Drayton.

00:42And then I left my job and went to work for them.

00:47And then things just really picked up and I stopped working for them and started doing this full time.

00:53So I supply local cafes, still Bar Aroma, which is lovely.

00:59Gracie Anne's in Port Solon. Queenie's over in Emsworth.

01:04And some other places that have kind of tried and tested cakes and it's not worked for whatever reason.

01:09But it's just, it's been a dream come true. Being able to do this really is a dream.

01:15So I worked in the corporate world from 16 when I left school.

01:22Didn't go to college, went straight to work. And then I just worked up until 2020.

01:29I did all sorts, mainly admin based work. I was a PA. I worked in events.

01:35And then most recently I worked in a school. But I'm not really cut out for confrontation.

01:44I'm more about cake and clouds and rainbows and happiness.

01:49And that's just me to a T. So I just decided that I needed to make a change.

01:56And I couldn't be happier.

01:59I think it's everything. It's from the very beginning when somebody asked me to make a cake.

02:04The initial excitement, researching, looking at pictures, looking at recipes, ideas.

02:10And then buying all the bits and pieces.

02:13And then turning it from initial idea into something that's going to be included in people's celebrations.

02:19And I just, I love it.

02:21If you want to do something, then just follow your dreams.

02:24I am very lucky. I've got a very supportive husband and a lovely daughter as well.

02:29And very willing guinea pigs in my family who are always happy to try new, weird and wonderful things.

02:37So just go for it.
