00:00Hi everyone my name is Jack Marshall and I'm a digital reporter with the
00:04Lancashire Post. Now today we'll just be introducing a bit of a retro picture
00:09collection featuring some of our top archive pictures of Preston's well-known
00:13and somewhat beloved Fishergate shopping centre. We've dug through the
00:18online archive to find these pictures of what the city's main kind of shopping
00:23centre used to look like back in the day. There's some incredible old black and
00:27white pictures here of how everything used to look over decades gone by. Having
00:32first opened its doors for public back in the 1980s we're just taking a look
00:36here back at what the iconic shopping centre looked like back in its heyday
00:41probably in the 1990s. It was built over 40 years ago as part of a development to
00:46revive the western end of Preston's Main Street and Fishergate's southern side
00:50was built on the site of Butler Street Goods Yard which was adjacent to the
00:55railway station and obviously it's grown and
01:00become a more important part of the city's shopping landscape over the years
01:05so yeah here are some of the best pictures mainly from the 1990s of
01:08Preston's very beloved Fishgate shopping centre.
