00:00Breaking news, a typhoon is currently hitting the northern part of the country, in Batanes.
00:07Let's find out the latest on this typhoon.
00:10From Pag-asa Weather, Specialist Veronica Torres.
00:14Good evening, Binibining Torres.
00:16Good evening to you too, Ma'am Ma'an, and to our listeners.
00:21Binibining Torres, what is the current situation and direction of the typhoon?
00:28Yes, this is Julian. It is moving away from Batanes.
00:32And earlier this afternoon, at 4 p.m., it was at a distance of 95 km,
00:37in the southern part of Itbayat, Batanes.
00:41The strong winds were blowing at 175 km per hour,
00:45and the typhoon reached 215 km per hour.
00:49It was moving in the direction of Hilagan, in a speed of 15 km per hour.
00:55Because of Julian, the Tropical Cyclone Wind, Signal No. 4, is still high in Batanes.
01:01Signal No. 3, in the northern and western portion of Babuyan Island.
01:05Signal No. 2, in the northern and western portion of Mainland Cagayan,
01:09as well as the southern part of Babuyan Island,
01:12Apayau, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, and the northern and central portion of Ilocos Sur.
01:17And Signal No. 1, in the southern part of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan,
01:22Ifugao, Mountain Province, Benguet, in the northern part of Mainland Cagayan,
01:26Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, the northern portion of Aurora,
01:30and the northern portion of Nueva Ecija.
01:34Bining Torres, in the forecast earlier this afternoon,
01:39it was said that on Wednesday, the Tropical Cyclone Julian will come out.
01:45Does this mean that its movement has changed?
01:48Does this mean that it will not become a super typhoon?
01:51Yes. So, based on our latest forecast,
01:55it will really come out on Thursday.
01:59Although, we can see that by tomorrow, it will re-curve.
02:04So, it will curve and then, while it is curving,
02:09it is very close to the boundary of the PAR.
02:12So, because of that, we are not removing the possibility that it will come out by Wednesday.
02:20Although, it has not yet come out in our PAR,
02:22but it will come back very soon.
02:24So, we cannot stop the release of the bulletin.
02:27And then, this super typhoon, we are not removing the possibility
02:32that it will be possible tonight or in the next days.
02:36Bining Bining Torres, in the videos that we can see,
02:39the strength of the typhoon, we can see the wind and the rain.
02:42Can this be compared to the Tropical Cyclone Yolanda?
02:46Yes. So, if we compare it to the Tropical Cyclone Yolanda,
02:49if I am not mistaken, the wind was really strong
02:53that reached Yolanda.
02:55It reached more than 220 km per hour
02:59or I cannot give you the exact number.
03:02So, for now, this strong wind is at 175 km per hour.
03:07So, if we compare it, it is still hard to compare it now
03:11because there is still a drop in this strong wind compared to Yolanda.
03:15So, we really need to put side-by-side data,
03:19this Tropical Cyclone Yolanda vs. Tropical Cyclone Yolanda.
03:22We just want to know about the weather conditions
03:26in Metro Manila.
03:29Yes. In terms of weather here in Metro Manila,
03:33we expect heavy rain and strong winds
03:37because of the Tropical Cyclone Yolanda.
03:41Thank you very much for your time,
03:44Weather Specialist Veronica Torres.
