01:30While surfing gaily in the deep, his clothes, all in a little heap, were left upon the beach.
01:37When suddenly, a great neck stretched out from the sea and swallowed them, just like a pill.
01:45Poor Kanga stood there, frozen still.
01:49But when the creature turned about, Kanga gave a fearful shout and leapt in one long frightened bound from beach right to the camping ground.
02:01Quickly, quickly, come and see! A monster, huge as after me!
02:07And as he stuttered out his story, Porky felt a glow of glory.
02:12I told you so, he had to say. Every dog must have his day.
02:18There was a special bush-wide mustering. Some were timid, some were blustering.
02:24And empty threats came from the wombat. I'll slay the beast in single combat!
02:30And lots more plots for trap and snare that didn't get them anywhere.
02:35But finally they all concurred. A peaceful answer was preferred.
02:40And so, there seemed no other way. Let's call in Bunyip to the fray.
02:46So, Bunyip went down to the dunes and one of her mournful tunes she sang and sang.
02:54And suddenly, a great head popped out of the sea and said,
03:00Who's making all that row? What on earth's the matter now?
03:08The Bunyip said, Don't make a fuss. You'll scare the daylights out of us.
03:15The serpent snorted. Oh, dearie me! You think I'm on a Sunday spree?
03:25This is my only feeding spot. It isn't asking such a lot.
03:33So, Serpent's Bay was forthwith banned.
03:36But Weedy Wombat darkly planned to drive the serpent from the land.
03:41One night, he crept down to the bay and threw in rocks.
03:46The serpent lay in his warm seabed, muttering low,
03:51I'll give that wombat tally-ho!
03:57Next moonlit night, now full of purpose, he cruised around below the surface.
04:03And when the rocks began to fall, he came out belching smoke and awe.
04:09Weedy fled far up the beach, the minute mile within his reach.
04:14And as he ran, he loudly bellowed. But close behind, the serpent followed.
04:19And faster than a broom could whisk it, he bit the land off, like a biscuit.
04:25His jaws just grazed poor Weedy's rump, and left behind a little stump.
04:32Now, nightly in the campfire hush, Weedy tells, without a blush,
04:39how on a certain summer night, he caused the Great Australian Bite.
