00:00The fourth edition of the EMPIRE Forum 2024, promoted by the EMPIRE Foundation,
00:09the National Agency for the Prevention of Harassment of Agricultural Workers,
00:13held in Villa Aurelia, Rome, sends very clear messages to the world of the economy.
00:17The President of the Foundation, Giorgio Piazza, in fact,
00:20emphasized how the great issues that will impact agriculture in the future
00:23will be the great innovation related to artificial intelligence to be used, for example,
00:27to re-naturalize our fields.
00:30These are very powerful instruments that must be made available to man,
00:33promoting an anthropocentric vision, not a technocentric one,
00:36in which man governs the machines, not the other way around.
00:39Roberto Diacetti, General Director of the EMPIRE Foundation,
00:42in turn, has framed the development of the sector from another perspective.
00:46The goal, he said, of the EMPIRE Foundation is to make a system.
00:49In this sense, we believe there are the prerequisites to invest in the Italian real economy.
00:54The challenge is to encourage the internationalization of agricultural enterprises
00:58and, in this process, we can be a tool for the modernization of the Italian economy.
01:03The EMPIRE is an institutional investor.
01:05It manages foresight, but it also manages important resources,
01:08with the aim of making a system.
01:11That is, together with our institutional sources,
01:14representatives of the agricultural world, with the Directi, Confagruttura, CIA,
01:19we believe there are the prerequisites to invest in the Italian real economy,
01:24particularly in agriculture.
01:26There is a need to overcome the dimensional level that we have of many agricultural enterprises.
01:33There is a need to make them grow, to internationalize them,
01:37and therefore, also through cohesion and collaboration with deposit and loan banks,
01:45we can be a tool for the modernization of Italian agriculture.
01:49Among the other interventions of the participants at the EMPIRE Forum 2024,
01:52Christopher Pissarides, Nobel Prize winner for Economy,
01:57and interviewed by the Director of the University, Luis Paolo Boccardelli,
02:00gave a great impression.
02:01We are experiencing, he said, a digital transition and an epochal climate.
02:04The challenge for the agri-food sector is to combine these two phenomena
02:07and promote quality products.
02:09At the same time, it is necessary for Europe to derive from a greater economic integration
02:13to boost competitiveness and growth.
02:15It is impressive the large number of start-ups that migrate from Europe to the USA.
02:19It is necessary to overcome the approach based only on regulation
02:23and invest in industrial policies.
02:25The boom in membership to STEM courses, i.e. scientific subjects,
02:28could be a fateful focus, since in this sector artificial intelligence
02:31could lead to a drastic drop in the number of places available,
02:35leaving many graduates without opportunities.
02:37Cultivating soft skills could be a better strategy
02:40to guarantee long-term career opportunities.
02:42It is an important moment to reflect and compare
02:45on topical issues such as work, human capital, innovation,
02:50artificial intelligence, environment, sustainability
02:53and, of course, for us, agriculture, which is our reference sector.
02:58Maria Tripodit's contribution is also worth noting.
03:00Under the State Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
03:02of the International Cooperation, institutions, he said,
03:05must work to put competence at the center,
03:08an aspect for which we are highly appreciated abroad.
03:10Digitalization and artificial intelligence are certainly
03:13a key component to address the numerous transformations
03:16in the labor market.
03:17Another crucial issue is the agri-food sustainability
03:20on which the government is committed,
03:22and will continue to do so because the agricultural world
03:24is a very important asset so that our export can excel in the world
03:28and, in this sense, the latest results of export itself
03:31are particularly encouraging.
