00:30Or a whistle along, it's a song, it's a story, a story and a song, and it's all, all about this
00:52This is a story about Christmas Eve
00:55Santa and his reindeer are ready to leave
00:58To travel the universe, every planet and star
01:01To bring Christmas magic to all, near and far
01:09This is a story that begins long ago
01:12A story a teddy bear lover should know
01:15Something to ponder about hope and care
01:18For everyone who's ever shared love with a bear
01:23There once was a family of teddies, you see
01:26Who lived in the trunk of a very large tree
01:30There was mother and father and six tiny bears
01:34Who all shared the room at the top of the stairs
01:37There was little and teeny and tiny and Ted
01:40And Nigel and Honey in one tiny bed
01:44As Christmas approached, as it did every year
01:48Throughout the house was a feeling of fear
01:51Because Christmas is different for girls and for boys
01:55Than it is in a house where the family are toys
01:59For children get presents on each Christmas day
02:03But if you are a toy, you are given away
02:07So when Santa would come to the home of the bears
02:11All of the cubs would head for the stairs
02:14And little and teeny and tiny and Ted
02:17And Nigel and Honey would hide under the bed
02:21For they knew that when Santa arrived Christmas Eve
02:24It would mean that some of them might have to leave
02:28Of course, they would find a new home filled with joy
02:32And that is the best thing that can come to a toy
02:36But little and teeny and tiny and Ted
02:39And Nigel and Honey would be lonely in bed
02:42Without all their brothers and sisters to share
02:46The honey-filled secrets known alone to a bear
02:54The soft snow is falling, the moon fills the sky
02:58And across the horizon the clouds drifting by
03:02Give a feeling of peace
03:04The houses lie still, each hoping that wishes come true
03:09And they will
03:11For Santa Claus hovers above Evening Star
03:14Fulfilling the sweet dreams of youth near and far
03:17His sleigh is tip-top high with gifts and with joy
03:21And candy-filled treasures for each girl and boy
03:26There are wagons and frisbees and dolls with sweet names
03:30And the latest assortment of video games
03:33There are dolls that you dress up and comb out their hair
03:37And for six lucky children their own teddy bear
03:42For little and teeny and tiny and Ted
03:45And Nigel and Honey are no longer in bed
03:48They no longer sleep at the head of the stairs
03:51They are now on a journey to become special bears
03:55Bears that share secrets of sorrows and joys
03:59It's the teddy bear's lot as the king of all toys
04:04To be more than a doll or a video game
04:07For all other toys might be quite the same
04:11Because a toy is a toy
04:13But a bear is a bear
04:15And in their stuffing-filled hearts
04:17They know how to care
04:19They know how to listen
04:21They know when to smile
04:23To turn a tear to a grin may take a while
04:26But it's part of the magic
04:28That's part of each bear
04:30It's the secret of love
04:33That they know how to share
04:36All through Christmas Eve
04:38With their guide, the North Star
04:41Santa and his friends all traveled afar
04:44And deep in the sacks that are filled with toys
04:47The six little bears remember the joys
04:50They all shared together on each Christmas Eve
04:53Before the time came when they all had to leave
04:57And little and teeny and tiny and Ted
05:00All sang the songs that danced in the air
05:03And soon all the reindeer did join in the song
05:06Shaking their sleigh bells as they traveled along
05:09The sound of their singing of the songs that they loved
05:13Came floating like angels from clouds up above
05:17And descended to earth as they traveled along
05:20Until all were joining the teddy bear's song
05:27We wish you a merry Christmas
05:31We wish you a merry Christmas
05:34We wish you a merry Christmas
05:36We wish you a merry Christmas
05:38And a honey-filled New Year
05:49We wish you a merry Christmas
05:51We wish you a merry Christmas
05:53We wish you a merry Christmas
05:56And a honey-filled New Year
06:02And now through the sky to a chimney-top land
06:06The sleigh and the reindeer under Santa's command
06:10Slide down to a stop on the top of a roof
06:14There the reindeer stand silent
06:16Shaking snow from each hoof
06:18While waiting for Santa to check through his list
06:21To make sure that none of the gifts have been missed
06:25And as silent as wind that slides through the trees
06:29He slips down the chimney as smooth as you please
06:34And places the gifts neath the dark Christmas tree
06:38Stands back and smiles
06:40For what does he see?
06:42But a card that was written with crayon and care
06:46We all thank you, Santa, if you bring us our bear
06:51And for the bear who was under the tree
06:54A whole lifetime passed by
06:56For him only to see
06:58The present, the future all became clear
07:02As if in a dream his forever was near
07:07It's Christmas Eve neath the Christmas tree
07:11And a little bear sits alone
07:14And he knows deep down in his heart of cloth
07:18That he's found himself a home
07:21It's late at night
07:25It's late at night neath the Christmas tree
07:28But he knows it won't be long
07:31Before the smiling face of a happy child
07:35Will hear his Christmas song
07:41What good is a bear without a people to hug
07:47And snuggle at night like a bug in a rug
07:52Without a people to hug and show that you care
07:58What earthly use is there for a bear
08:09Without a people to hold when the night's getting cold
08:15And keep in your heart all the secrets you're told
08:20Without someone to watch as they grow up so tall
08:25There's no earthly use for a small bear at all
08:31What good is a bear, I ask the clouds up above
08:37I'm no earthly good without a people to love
08:51And as the years go away and my fur starts to shed
08:57And I no longer sleep at the foot of the bed
09:03And my people grows up from a boy to a bear
09:09Without a people to hold when the night's getting cold
09:15And my people grows up from a boy to a bear
09:21On Christmas Eve I get a little bit sad
09:27But he gives me a smile and a pat on the head
09:33And puts me down gently in his own baby's bed
09:38Then I thank all the stars and the clouds up above
09:44That I am a bear with a people to love
09:49And I thank all the stars and the clouds up above
09:55What good is a bear without a people to love
10:15And now it is morning, and each bear fast asleep
10:19Hears a chorus of giggles that makes the heart leap
10:23For paper is flying all over the place
10:26Suddenly there appears a small beaming face
10:29With explosions of laughter that tear through the air
10:33And makes the heart leap
10:35What good is a bear without a people to love
10:40What good is a bear without a people to love
10:46What good is a bear without a people to love
10:52What good is a bear without a people to love
10:59What good is a bear without a people to love
11:06What good is a bear without a people to love
11:12What good is a bear without a people to love
11:18What good is a bear without a people to love
11:25What good is a bear without a people to love
11:32What good is a bear without a people to love
11:40What good is a bear without a people to love
11:48What good is a bear without a people to love
11:57And now it is evening, Christmas soon will be gone
12:02And six sleepy children have been up too long
12:06So they each kiss their parents and trudge off to bed
12:10With little and teeny and tiny and Ted
12:13And Nigel and Honey tucked under their arm
12:16To share in their dreaming and keep them from harm
12:22And this is our story of Christmas and bears
12:25May it cause you to smile and take away cares
12:29May it give you a hope when all seems in doubt
12:33Because that is what sharing a gift's all about
12:37And now it is evening, Christmas soon will be gone
12:41So they each kiss their parents and trudge off to bed
12:45With little and teeny and tiny and Ted
12:48Because that is what sharing a gift's all about
12:52It's not just the getting that makes Christmas shine
12:56It's not all the counting of things that are mine
13:00It's not how many, how big or how small
13:04It has nothing to do with the presents at all
13:07For a gift is only a hope that we share
13:11That the person who gets it will know that we care
13:15And for little and teeny and tiny and Ted
13:18And Nigel and Honey, it now can be said
13:22It's the lesson they learned on that fine Christmas day
13:26You only find love when you give it away
13:31Sleep, sleep now it's Christmas
13:39And love now is here
14:10Now back to our story
14:12In Santa's red sleigh
14:14There's a soft little bear who's on his way
14:17To a Christmas adventure in some unknown land
14:21And he's trying to puzzle
14:23To know, understand
14:26To find out
14:28And to find out
14:30And to find out
14:33And to find out
14:36To know, understand
14:39The mysteries his grandfather shared long ago
14:42I remember the story
14:44I'd sure like to know what it all has to do
14:47With this journey tonight
14:49Because deep down inside me
14:51There's some worry and fright
14:53And jiggles and shudders and shivers and cares
14:56And I wonder if it's this way for all teddy bears
15:07I remember as if it were yesterday
15:11Grammy Bear, will you tell us a story about when you were in the North Pole?
15:16And how you used to work with Santa Bear?
15:19And all the other of Santa's helpers?
15:21Well, if this is going to be a long story, I'll make some honey riches and honey soup for lunch.
15:26Oh, Grammy, I will set the table when it's time.
15:29Now that's a good little bear.
15:31Okay, kids, settle down and I'll tell you how Santa Bear began his work.
15:38It was a long, long time ago.
15:41I was about the size of Teeny.
15:43That sure was a long, long time ago.
15:45Yes, it sure was.
15:47And up to that time, there were lots of toys for girls and boys at Christmas.
15:51Even though in those days, each child got only one toy and a stocking full of fruit and candy.
15:58Only one gift?
15:59That's right, one gift.
16:01So, Santa had to make sure that each child got the one exact gift they wanted.
16:07If I only got one gift, I would like a kitty.
16:11And I'd like a new pair of dancing shoes.
16:14Well, as long as that one gift was a truck or a doll, very popular items back then.
16:20I'd like a truck.
16:21Then the elves could fill the order and Santa would bring the toys and everyone would be happy.
16:28I'm happy every Christmas because there were always honey cookies.
16:32Then one day, Santa got a letter asking for something he couldn't deliver.
16:37Oh, like a hippo-mighty-bumus?
16:39Or an ass-a-lump?
16:40What was it?
16:42A small, fuzzy, furry, soft, cuddly, huggable little friend.
16:48Sounds like a teddy bear to me.
16:50It was a teddy bear.
16:53But nobody had ever seen a teddy bear because it was years before the first bear was ever sold in any store.
16:59That must have been a long, long time ago.
17:02Yes, it was.
17:03So Mrs. Claus got out a bolt of cloth and needles and thread and some fur from one of Santa's old hats and made...
17:10A little bear for the child who wrote the letter?
17:13No, not quite.
17:14Did she make a kitty?
17:16No, she made Santa Bear and he made...
17:20Oh, oh, oh, another bear!
17:22Well, Santa Bear put the cloth and the stuffings together, but it took something else to make the child who wrote the letter happy.
17:30Oh, what's that, Grampy Bear?
17:32It took the magic of wanting something and then having somebody take the time to make it for you.
17:39It took that kind of special care to make the first bear, and that's what Christmas and Santa Bear is all about.
17:47That's a nice story!
