00:00Now we review Beetlejuice Cash Grab Bember Berries.
00:05I mean, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
00:09Alright, ladies and gentlemen, I am Richard, this is my channel, and I have seen Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
00:17Interesting fact for you, something I didn't know.
00:21The title of the film is Beetlejuice as in, to make juice from beetles.
00:27The name of the character is Beetlejuice as in Orion's hand.
00:32The star in Orion.
00:36Beetlejuice.
00:37One is with a G and one is with a J.
00:43For every thousand subscribers I get, I do purchase one of these bracelets from 4ocean.
00:484ocean pulls a pound of trash out of the ocean every time I do that.
00:52If you'd be so kind as to comment, like, and subscribe, you'd be doing your part for a better world.
00:56Now, 40 years ago, Lydia Dietz and her family moved into a home in the country that were inhabited by ghosts.
01:08And those ghosts set upon them a poltergeist named Beetlejuice.
01:14The ghosts sent Beetlejuice packing, but for all these 40 years, he has had a hard-on for Lydia Dietz.
01:22And I can't blame him. Winona Ryder is hot.
01:26I would very much like to spend some quality time with Winona Ryder, were she willing.
01:37In this particular film, not only is Beetlejuice trying to get on Lydia after all these years,
01:44but Lydia's father has been eaten by a shark or something, and they're all coming together for his funeral.
01:55This culminates into very many moving parts that from this point forward would be spoilers.
02:04But the point is, at this point, Lydia needs Beetlejuice to help her because her daughter's in trouble.
02:15I don't want to go any further. I haven't seen the trailers, but I mean...
02:23Well, look, you can tell 40 years have passed since the original film.
02:28I did re-watch the original film to see this, and I have to say, you know...
02:37This does not feel like a very solid follow-up to the original film.
02:41There are a lot of things that appear to be there just to be there.
02:47It's like the shrunken head characters. They don't look the same.
02:53They, you know, look... Well, they're not the same.
02:57There was one of them in the original.
03:00At the end of the original film, Beetlejuice got his head shrunk.
03:05Now there are these shrunken head characters, and you see more of Beetlejuice.
03:09You see scenes from him being alive, and you learn more of his backstory, which is good.
03:15The backstory of Beetlejuice is that he was a grave robber
03:21during the time of the Black Death. I believe this was in Spain?
03:25Or... I don't know.
03:28And, you know, this woman falls in love with him in order to suck out his soul, because marriage.
03:35And she poisons him. He chops her into a bunch of pieces.
03:40And he turns into the afterlife entity known as Beetlejuice, being vengeful and angry.
03:46It doesn't make any sense.
03:49And his ex-wife, or his current wife, being till death do his part, so I guess ex-wife, is back.
03:57The first scene, early part of the film, is her story.
04:02And she's there to find Beetlejuice and suck the souls out of the ghosts and ghoulies that she can.
04:12Which, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Her scenes are very simplistic.
04:16It's the same scene over and over again.
04:20It's like she's not even an intelligent character.
04:23She's just a repetitious ghost, constantly saying, you know,
04:27Where is Beetlejuice? Where is Beetlejuice?
04:29And sucking out souls.
04:31And it really feels like this character was put in there for the sake of,
04:36we need something to pad the run time.
04:39And it does give us a Danny DeVito cameo, which is cool. I like that.
04:43I mean, appreciated Danny DeVito.
04:45But his character wasn't given much to do, and he wasn't with us long.
04:49And now you've really got to explain more about how dead people can die.
04:53Because, I don't know if you're aware of this, but in the Bible,
04:57soul refers to a living person.
05:00Souls are mortal.
05:04And spirits are immortal.
05:08There is a difference, biblically speaking.
05:12Now, of course, this doesn't say that there's a Christian paradigm,
05:15but there are Christian imageries in this,
05:20and marriage, at least in a Christian setting, is accepted.
05:24So I'm really confused.
05:27There are all these rules for the afterlife,
05:30and the more you push these rules, the less they tend to work.
05:35One of the aspects, one of the dynamics of the original film that I do have to question
05:40is, you know, why is Beetlejuice essentially a subcontractor who you could hire to get rid of people?
05:49What does he get out of the deal?
05:51I mean, it's implied that he's hired by people to do this,
05:56but it's never explained how he is paid or what his payment is.
06:02In this particular iteration, he has an office with multiple employees,
06:08so theoretically he's doing something,
06:11but, you know, whatever currency populates the world of the dead
06:18is completely, completely unaddressed.
06:25It's a very strange, very strange movie.
06:28And that's kind of the problem with Beetlejuice,
06:30is that the more you talk about him, the more he comes undone.
06:35Another point is he's referred to as a demon in the film,
06:38but he's not a demon.
06:40Demons were not, at one point, human.
06:42He would be a poltergeist, right?
06:45A troublesome spirit, a spirit that causes trouble,
06:48damages things, and is generally unruly.
06:53I would have to, of course, point out this is a comedy,
06:55and it's just a movie, and nobody cares,
06:57but that's kind of the thing,
07:01is that when you're dealing with these comedies,
07:03one of the greatest expressions ever told is,
07:06comedy ain't no joke.
07:08Unless you're calling him a demon for the laughs,
07:11poltergeist would have probably made more sense.
07:14So, yeah, look, I thought this movie was fine.
07:19It's middle of the watch list.
07:21It's not a great movie.
07:23It's not the all-inclusive film that was Beetlejuice
07:26that's incredibly dark, yet still solidly funny,
07:30and, you know, an animated film with a huge energy to it.
07:34This is like Beetlejuice, a little slowed down,
07:37it's a little tired,
07:39and, you know, they're kind of bringing this together.
07:44This is the...
07:50amusement park ride movie Beetlejuice.
07:53Not the cool, interesting, fun Tim Burton film.
08:00Now, look, I haven't been a fan of Tim Burton.
08:03I have not watched a lot of his more recent films,
08:06which is weird, because I'm a film critic,
08:08and I understand that his visual style has changed a lot.
08:13And, yeah, you see that in this film.
08:16You don't see the same use of practicals.
08:18You see larger sets.
08:20You see more...
08:23expanse.
08:24And in this world, kind of less is more,
08:27because the less you see, the more questions you have.
08:30But they're not questions like,
08:32wait, why does that happen like that?
08:34They're questions like, I wonder what this world is like.
08:38So, yeah.
08:39Look, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice,
08:41it is a middle-of-the-watch-list film.
08:43You're probably going to see it at some point.
08:46I mean, look.
08:48It has more of a feel of a Generation 2 blockbuster
08:52that is pre-Jurassic Park.
08:57But it does not have the charm and love and energy
09:04of a true Generation 2 blockbuster.
09:08It's just...
09:09It is a film. It is a solid film.
09:11It is just not the great film that Beetlejuice was.
09:14So it's got some big shoes to fill.
09:16This doesn't mean it's a bad film.
09:18It's probably one of the best things at the box office this weekend.
09:22It's, you know...
09:25It's high in the pack, but it's a slow pack.
09:29Anyway, that's just my opinion.
09:30I'd love to hear yours in the comments below.
09:32I'm Richard.
09:33Greetings, humans!
09:34Your old pal Randall here again,
09:36reminding you to comment, like, and subscribe.
09:39You see, I got my bracelets from Ferocian,
09:41and I got another!
09:43Another medal from the Conqueror!
09:45Yeah, yeah, look at that! See?
09:47See? That's got an Easter Island head on it!
09:51Because if you can't afford to go to Easter Island,
09:55you can go and walk Easter Island virtually
09:59by going to the Conqueror.
10:01You could not screw up the environment
10:03by traveling to Easter Island.
10:05You could just get this, plant five trees,
10:08and then walk on your own
10:10and learn about Easter Island,
10:12because they send you postcards.
10:14And if you comment, like, and subscribe,
10:17you can help the guy that owns this channel
10:19buy things like this so he can plant trees,
10:22and buy bracelets like this from Ferocian
10:25so he can pull trash out of the ocean
10:27and make a better world for you!
10:29And it isn't gonna cost you anything!
10:31So, so don't you have something to say?
10:34I mean, shouldn't you in the comments down below
10:36say how grateful you are
10:38that this man has planted so many trees
10:41and pulled so much trash out of the ocean?
10:43Isn't that one of those good things for you?
10:45No?
10:47Ungrateful human!
10:49I SHOULD EAT YOUR FACE!
